  • Construction vs All Industries Combined• Construction makes up less

    than 6% of the U.S. Workforce.

    • It accounts for about 12% of the struck-by injuries and 17% of the fatalities.

  • Construction Sectors

    • The Highway, Street and Bridge sector has the most fatalities.

    • The Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning subsector has the most injuries.

    • The Masonry subsector has the highest rate of injuries.

  • Struck-by Vehicles• Between 2011-2018, there were

    4,980 non-fatal injuries in construction.

    • During the same period there were 502 fatal injuries.

    • In 2018, construction accounted for 20% of struck-by vehicle fatalities.

    • Assess awareness of National Work Zone Awareness Week and support a National Stand-Down to Prevent Struck-by Incidents

    • Identify materials needed to support Stand-Down activities• Inform the development of new resources and strategies to

    protect workers by reducing struck-by hazards
