Although there were some changes made as to where the hos-pitality room was held in October, I would like to commend ev-eryone that helped out. Your hard work and great efforts helped to make a challenging situation a lot easier.

Remember to bring at least one new item to be auctioned off at the Auxiliary Department’s major fund raiser of the year, the reverse drawing. Tickets and lists should have been sent out to all the auxiliaries for the items that they need to bring.

Left to right are retired Col. Larry Rogers, Sgt Jones from Hamlet National Guard, Marty Nielson Post Commander of AMVETS Post 316, and past Post Commander Lacy Shepherd.

Sgt. Jones presented AMVETS Post 316 with a statue of the Minute Men, for every thing we did to help them and their families while they were in Iraq. Post 316 sent phone cards to them, and served them and their families a meal when the Hamlet National Guard left for their tour of duty overseas and upon their return home. AMVETS Post 316 also held skating and Christmas parties for their families.

Civitan AwardThe Rockingham Civitan Club awarded Den-

nis Holloway the Civitan Citizen of the year of 2010. Dennis is a member of AMVETS Post 316.

This is from the week before DEC when the kids at Pine Grove donated five gallons of pull tabs to the post. Sam and I took them to DEC and turned them in with another 3 gallons from others.

The children pictured are the (Ra’s) Royal Ambassador’s, (GA’s) Girls in Action and Mission friends of Pine Grove Baptist Church, along with Martin W. Nielsen of the AMVETS post 316 Rockingham. The mission groups and members of Pine Grove collected five gallons of Aluminum Tabs for the Ronald McDonald house.

AMVETS Raffle winner 2010 and Baseball

Hey y’all,

We hit one local newspaper yesterday...hopefully five more area papers and magazines shortly.

The article was condensed and reworded somewhat but it does the job nicely...getting the AMVETS name out there.

And thanks to Jaime and Shane I distributed the ball caps tonight. The players were very appreciative...could the gift helped in their winning tonight 15 to 4?

The team photo was taken on Tuesday October 19th at Smithville Park prior to their 7 p.m. game. Post officers are invited to be part of that pic. Shutter wil click probably at 6:30. This will be a second round of newspaper publicity.

Send me any photos and articles of local AMVETS activities worthy of placing in the newspapers. The JROTC scholarship and individual awards that we distribute at the end of the school year will be great publicity opportuni-ties. The ‘area festivals’ coming up in the spring will also be good chances for public viewing. Our chicken BBQ needs a photo/story prior to the actual event. Got pics of last years event? Writeup?

Send me your thoughts of ideas for publicity and new member recruitment.

School Supplies Our Auxiliary collected and donated supplies for three local elementary schools, Rockwell, Shive and Morgan.

Pictured are Debbie and Wendy getting supplies ready to go. Debbie at Morgan and finally Ann and Debbie at Rockwell.

Send me any photos and articles of local AMVETS activities!

post 906 - Cont.Post 906 Cell phones

Here are some pictures where Auxiliary 906 were collecting cell phones for the “Cell Phones For Soldiers” on September 25th in

Southport. This has been one of our projects over the past four years and we have shipped out 95 cell phones for the program since May. We are partici-pating in our local Community Center Fall Festival this weekend to do another collection of cell phones. Will send you pictures later on that.

When we do a collection, we combine it with

handing out information on the AMVETS and Aux-iliary to educate the people about our post and hope-fully recruit some new members. In the pictures one, two and three, are: Jerry Wolf for the AMVETS and Rachel Okun for the Auxiliary.
