Training and Technology Transfer for Signal Timing
Considerations at Diverging Diamond Interchanges
Amount requested: $100,000
Duration: 12 months
Source: Project 03-113 - Guidance for Traffic Signals at Diverging Diamond Interchanges and Adjacent Intersections
• Develop a training and technology transfer program for the signal timing guidelines.
• 10 workshops in a period of one year, with approx. 100 participants in total.
• Identify improvements to the material that can be included in the training materials
Tasks1. Develop training materials based
on the research results in NCHRP 03-113a, tailored to a one-day course delivery.
2. Determine appropriate venues for conducting the training
3. Acquire course certification from professional organizations
4. Modify the training materials as necessary to meet the needs of each audience.
5. Conduct training on new DDI guidance specifically looking at the considerations at the immediate interchange influence area
6. Submit a short final report documenting the entire training effort, including future training opportunities.

Implementation Assessment of 3R Design Guidelines
Amount requested: $71,500 (added to $26,000 from original project budget)Duration: 18 monthsSource: Project 15-50 - Guidelines for Integrating Safety and Cost-Effectiveness into Resurfacing, Restoration, and Rehabilitation (3R) Projects
• Assist four highway agencies in trial application of guidelines and revise the design guidelines
• Will involve AASHTO Committee on Design and the Technical Committee on Geometric Design
Tasks
1. Select highway agencies to participate in study
2. Provide briefing to participating highway agencies on the 3R design guidelines
3. Arrange for each participating highway agency to conduct a trial application of the 3R design guidelines
4. Obtain an assessment of the 3R design guidelines from each participating highway agency
5. Update design guidelines and prepare final report
