    A common misconcept among all of us, especially the technical personnel is that the office isnothing but an appendix to the line departments like production shop and that is a necessaryevil only adding to the overheads. Any one commencing to study the office organisationshould first clear the mind from this misconcept and be convinced that the office provides anessential service to the management and that the subject is an important one.     The effectiveness and efficiency of reproduction services depend upon the type ofprocess that you select. The particular needs of the company should determine whichprocess is the best suitable. Reproduction process eliminates repetition when itbecomes necessary to reproduce office paper work. There are two types of processesused in the offices for reproduction. One is called copier i.e. copying machine and theother duplicator i.e. Duplicating machine. We shall now study these two processes here.

    TP - 4 TYPES OF MACHINES FOR REPRODUCTION_________________________________________________________________________

    Introduction :

    We shall now examine the various machine which can be employed for reproduction ofcopies in order to see what each machine is capable of doing, the quality of the copy itproduces, and how it compares with similar such machines. We have seen that thereare different processes of reproducing copies. Now we shall examine the various typesof machines used for reproduction one by one.

    32. The very commonly used machine in every office is the typewriter. Copies can be takenby using a carbon paper while typing. The maximum number of copies that can be takenat a time is about six including the original. A typewriter is a low priced machine. Butonly limited number of copies can be taken at a time. It requires special skill to operateand it takes more time and effort to reproduce copies. The quality of the carbon copiesis also not very good. Therefore typewriter is used in offices mostly for typing letters.
