_____________________________________________________________________

January 26, 2011

Dear NEBLSA Members and Supporters,

Welcome to the to the Northeast Black Law Students Association’s 2011 Regional convention.

On behalf of the entire Regional Board, we thank you for joining us in Mashantucket, CT. Our

theme, Building on Excellence: Equipping You with Tools to Fulfill Your Destiny” is a reflection

of our region’s legacy and our commitment to developing members’ potential.

The National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) was established in 1968 and is the

largest student-run organization in America with 6000 members at law schools across the

country. The Northeast region (NEBLSA) is comprised of 8 states including, Connecticut,

Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Northern New Jersey, Rhode Island, and

Vermont. The Northeast Region is 32 chapters strong.

In 2010, Northeast members sought to preserve our Legacy of Empowerment by Building on the

Excellence the Northeast is known to produce. After committing to the professional

development and academic development of our members this year, the Northeast held our

Summer Happy Hour series to foster networking among our members. Our region hosted the

largest NBLSA job fair in August, 2010, resulting in interview callbacks and job offers for many

participating members. Our region also hosted the largest Academic Retreat and Law School

Symposium held at Harvard Law School in October, 2010. Through all programming, the

Northeast has remained committed to the community at large, carrying out the P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S.

initiative. The Northeast also significantly improved our outreach to alumni and implemented a

means for students and alumni to interact through our alumni receptions. In addition, the

Northeast has implemented several new social events for members to relax and interact.

The Regional Convention is our largest event of the year. It consists of a series of workshops,

panel discussions, networking receptions, and community service events. In addition, the

regional rounds of the National Thurgood Marshall Mock Trial and Fredrick Douglass Moot

Court Competitions will take place. We hope that your experience here will motivate you to

continue building on the excellence that is you, continue the legacy and continue to carry out the

mission and goals of NEBLSA as a member and beyond.

I look forward to meeting all of you at the panels, community events, and networking receptions

planned for you during this Convention. Please also join the Northeast Region as we make our

way to the Rocky Mountain Region for the 43rd

annual National Convention in Houston, Texas,

March 9 – 13, 2011.

Lastly, I am happy to announce that NEBLSA will host its annual Convention of 2012 in the

NYC Metro Sub-Region at the Westchester Renaissance Hotel. Please plan to join us!

Sincerely,

Shetera Patterson

Northeast Regional Chair, 2010 – 2011
