Setting up NetMeeting for the First Time on a Computer

• If this is the first time using NetMeeting on your computer, you will need to start using run from the start menu

• Left click Start, and then left click Run

• type in the following; C:\Program Files\NetMeeting\CONF.EXE into the dialogue box and click OK

• You will be prompted with the following dialog box

• Follow the numbered steps to set up NetMeeting on your computer

Click Next

• Enter your First and Last Name, Email Address and Location

• Change the Server name: to directory.lrc.gov.on.ca and select “Log on to a directory server when NetMeeting start

• Select Local Area Network

• Select “Put a shortcut to NetMeeting on my desktop”

Click Next

• You will then be prompted with a number of dialog boxes for Audio and Video setup. Leave the default settings and Click Next on each screen until the end. Click on Finish to complete the setup.

• To start the NetMeeting application, Double Click on the Icon on the Desktop

• Participants can use meeting reminder to launch NetMeeting

• Participants can also use Outlook calendar appointment to launch NetMeeting in two ways:

1. with a button from the standard toolbar

2. automatically launch with the meeting reminder

• Automatically accepting calls allows meeting organizer to continue without interruption

• Sharing the desktop allows participants to see what programs are visible on your computer

• Allowing control enables participants to collaborate on a document or run a PowerPoint presentation

• Organizer can choose to allow automatic control

Using NetMeeting Features

• Participants can be called directly from NetMeeting

• Using the address book will provide a list of staff from the LRC directory that have NetMeeting open

• Chat allows participants to pose questions and discuss while a presentation is in progress

• Discussion can be saved

• Whiteboard allows organizer and participants to draw diagrams to illustrate for clarification

• Diagrams can be saved

• File sharing allows organizer and participants to share files while meeting is progress

• Files can be saved on participants computer

Limitations

• Number of Participants – Related to bandwidth – LRC recommends no more than 30– Dial up concerns

• External Client Access– LRC directory limited to OPS– Firewalls– Can have external client host meeting using

Microsoft directory
