Today is the feast of Pentecost, the birthday of the Church. The Twelve Apostles were told in the reading we heard on Ascension Sunday that they must wait in Jerusalem until the promised gift, the Holy Spirit, came down upon them.

Today Christ fulfills His promise: “I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you.” (John 14:18) Christ left us in the Ascension, so that we could be clothed with power from on high, the Holy Spirit, who is called by the Nicene Creed “the Lord and Giver of life”! He has much more to tell us; He is not finished with us; He still has work to do in us—and so the Holy Spirit comes to lead us into all Truth, to lead us deeper and deeper into the Mystery of Christ.

The Holy Spirit is the possibility for something new to happen in the world and in our lives. The Holy Spirit is shaping and transforming us, and moving us toward the goal of “a new heaven and a new earth” (Revelation 21:1). Without the Holy Spirit, all of the new and improved things of this earth will end up out of date and out of style in no time. “There is nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9) until the Holy Spirit comes and shows us the infinite imagination and creativity of God our Father.

What a wonderful feast to celebrate, this Feast of Pentecost, in the midst of graduation season! I know that many of our young people have graduated and will be graduating in these days, from 8th Grade, from High School, from College.

To all of our graduates: Congratulations!

My prayer for you is that you take to heart the words of Jesus in John’s Gospel: “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth.” (John 16:12-13)

God is not done with you. He has much more to tell you, to show you, to teach you. He wants to guide you into the Truth; He wants you to become truly yourself, the person He created you to be. God has a plan, a task for you that no one else can accomplish. Each of us has been created “for a definite purpose” as Blessed John Henry Newman said.

And we have been given the greatest and most powerful gift ever, a gift from on high, that will lead us into the truth of who God made us to be. God is much more creative than we are. His plans show forth His infinite imagination. He knows us and loves us better than we know ourselves. We can entrust ourselves to Him with childlike confidence.

“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses … to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8) So, we pray on this Pentecost Sunday that the Holy Spirit will fill and renew the Church and the whole world with the infinite, tender, creative love of God!

Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of Your faithful, And enkindle in them the fire of Your love!

In Christ, Pastor

From our Pastor...

The Nicene Creed I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible.

I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through

him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he

suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and

the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of

sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

Long after the tears fall, I’m still Your child. I’ve put down my defenses, and lay down my pride. Love and forgiveness flow deep and wide. So I’ll run to You, and surrender all, As I lay down my life and pick up my cross. What a joy it is to give my life away to You. All that I need, all that I seek is You here with me. Holy Spirit, have Your way in me. In times of trouble, though trials may come, The Rock of Ages is standing strong. I’m fighting battles, but the war is won. So I’ll run to You, and surrender all, More of You, and less of me, God. More of You, and less of me, God. (Repeat) More of You, and less of me, God. More of You, overflowing.

Communion Antiphon Acts 2: 4, 11 They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke of the marvels of God, alleluia.

Revive my heart, renew my soul. In You, oh Lord, I am made whole.

No more in fear will I wander. ‘Cuz You’re my God, my Lord and lover.

Like a burning fire, be my one desire.

I wanna be holy just like You. I wanna go where You lead me to.

With reckless abandon to Your truth, I wanna fall deeper in love with You.

Oh, lift me up God my Father. In all this world there is no other.

I’m dancing in Your Holy presence, And Your glory fills all my senses.

There must be more than this; O breath of God come breathe within. There must be more than this: Spirit of God we wait for you. Fill as anew we pray, fill us anew we pray. Consuming Fire, fan into flame, a passion for your name. Spirit of God, fall in this place. Lord have your way, Lord have your way with us. Come like a rushing wind, clothe us in power from on high.

Pastor
