The majority of New Zealanders want to head to Australia for its beaches and coastline, show the results of a new Tourism Australia survey. Some 30% of Kiwis who took part in the NTO’s latest There’s Nothing Like Australia campaign (Jan-Mar) selected the ‘coastal cruiser’ holiday type as their top pick.At the same time Tourism Australia says the results correlate to recent BDA research which showed Kiwis ranked beaches as the most appeal-ing attraction in Australia, with the Great Barrier Reef and the Aussie climate coming in second and third. Rounding out the top five holiday experiences preferred in the NTO’s latest campaign were: Food Fanatic (24%), Nature Seeker (18%), Eco In-dulger (18%), and Active Adventurer (10%).Tourism Australia New Zealand Re-gion General Manager, Jenny Aitken says the results reinforce New Zea-landers’ affinity with Aussie coastal experiences and close connection with nature.

. . . Most SuccessfulAitken says the NTO’s recent cam-paign and competition (to win a $10,000 Aussie travel prize) was ‘one of the most successful the NTO has run in recent times for agencies and their campaign partners’. Alongside experiential preferences, Aitken says Kiwis cited safety as the most important consideration when choosing a holiday, followed by natu-

ral beauty, welcoming people, value for money and good food and wine. “It was widely accepted that Australia offers some of the most beautiful, safe and high quality holiday experi-ences in the world with world-class food and wine,” she adds.

. . . Evolving OfferingWith more than one million Kiwis choosing to visit Australia each year and 93% returning for more, Aitken says its essential Kiwis are continu-ally presented with the ever evolving Australian tourism offering.

787s Flying Soon?Boeing says the proposed fix for the batteries in its 787 Dreamliners could be ready for installation within the next few weeks—although the cause of the battery failures has not yet been identified. The improvements are undergoing testing, and 787 operators will be able to resume flights as soon as testing is complete and regulators grant final approval, says Boeing. The manufacturer has proposed im-provements it says will ‘add several layers of additional safety features’ to the batteries, including changes to the battery itself, its charging unit, instal-lation and new enclosures. They address ‘possible’ causes of the battery failures that led to the ground-ing of the entire global Dreamliner fleet. Boeing says its priority is help-ing customers fly again but it is also looking to resume deliveries as soon as possible.
