“Best Summer Ever – The Parable of the Four Soils” Ryan Suzuki // July 6-7, 2019 INTRODUCTION This week we looked at the parable of the sower and the four soils. Jesus tells a story of a sower who scattered seeds on four different types of soil. Jesus then explains to his disciples that the seed represents the Gospel (the sower being anyone who proclaims it), and the various soils represent people's responses to it. DISCUSSION QUESTIONS 1. Share a favorite family story and the lessons you learn from it. 2. Read Mark 4: 1-9. As a group, identify the 4 different soils. 3. Read Mark 4:13-20. Compare each soil you identified in verses 1-9 with its example in verses 13-20. 4. When you hear the description of the different soil’s, which one do you relate to? Are there times in your life where you have been different types? 5. Where do you need God to break up hard soil, dig out some rocks, or uproot some weeds in your life? 6. Where is the fertile soil in your life and how can you partner with God even more in these areas? CHALLENGE We learned that the seller does not prejudge the soil. Is there anyone in your life that you feel compelled to share the gospel with yet you are pre-judging their hearts? Ask God to help you take the next steps to spread the seeds of the gospel? COMMIT TO MEMORY Others, like seed sown on good soil, hear the word, accept it, and produce a crop— some thirty, some sixty, some a hundred times what was sown. Mark 4: 20 PRAY FOR EACH OTHER Share prayer requests, and commit to praying for one another until you next meet.
