Outcome focused. 1 NEWS YOU CAN USE A Weekly Update For The Employees of North Central Health Care WEEKLY CONNECTION WITH MICHAEL LOY It is with deep sadness that I share the news of the passing of Nancy Burgoyne, a Dietary Aide who served our staff and residents faithfully as a member of the Food Services team. Nancy passed away un- expectedly at home the night of August 8th. Nancy was hired at North Central Health Care as a Dietary Aide on April 20, 2016 and was well regarded by many people. She made a difference in a number of people’s lives and will be greatly missed. Nancy’s daughter, Amy Martin works as a Life Enrichment Aide in Mount View Care Center. Please continue to pray and offer your support of Nan- cy’s work family and her family as they grieve her loss. Stay Committed I also want to talk this week about staying committed. We all have opportunities to give up on what we are believing in or working for. To walk away from an uncomfortable situation or not be our best. But if we want to reach our highest potential, we have to stay committed. We can’t be moved by what’s not working out, give up on someone because they are not doing what they should, or because we many not feel we’re being treated fairly. It may be difficult, we may have a good reason to walk away, but stay the course. The higher virtue is not to take the easy way out when things aren’t going our way. Instead we need to stay committed and dig our heals in and do the right things when it is hard. The last year and a half has been a challenge for our organization and for me personally as we have turned our organization in the face of what at times felt like gale force winds. I think we have been successful so far. Despite the adversity, we continue to make a difference in big ways. I see it every day in many ways. It has been one of the greatest honors of my life and I appreciate the opportunity I’ve been given. With the daily pressures of being your CEO, it is and will always be about the people. The people who wake up every day to serve our community in the work you do and the people we are able to impact with our good works. We are important and our work is even more important. You deserve and will continue to get my very best. I hope to never let you down and to stay the course on where I believe we are headed. There remains so much good about our organization and the potential I see as nearly unlimited. We are living our vision of Lives Enriched and Fulfilled with much more to come. As we continue to focus on Patient Experience, a key indicator of our success, we can measure our ability to stay committed and see the victory through. As we started this year we witnessed our scores improve each month incrementally from 69.0% in January to 79.7% in May. Then in June we had a setback with our lowest outcome year to date at 68.3% top box. We could have walked away from what we are believing in and working for but we didn’t. Instead we bounced back in a big way in July with our highest result yet at 80.7% top box. I do not recall us ever breaking 80% top box. Congratulations on staying the course in this regard despite the adversity. Year to date we are sitting at 75.2%, just below our target at 77-88%. We accomplish our goal, we can do it! Experience the realities of poverty

Community Poverty Simulation The Poverty Simulation provides people from all backgrounds an opportunity to walk in the

shoes of a low-income family for a few short hours. Participants receive an assigned identity

and family profile and experience “one month” of poverty compressed into the real time of the

simulation. Volunteers play roles of community members who are vital to families. Afterward, a

debriefing occurs where participants share insights of extraordinary vividness and intensity. The

result can be a very special kind of awakening. The power of this unique learning resource is

that it creates an insight into the state of chronic crisis that consumes so many families.

Tuesday, August 22, 2017 from 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm Riverview Elementary School gymnasium, 4303 Troy Street, Wausau

To participate or volunteer, call Kate Gaines to reserve your spot at 608-960-0697 or email [email protected] by

Merrill Center:• Beginning Monday, August 7, the front entrance of the Merrill Center

will be under construction. Access to the building during business hours will be directed to the ADRC side entrance. Those who will need alternate entry due to the stairs will be instructed to park near the North Entrance and will need to use the North entrance and proceed through hallway to the elevator. Before 8am and after 4:30pm, access will need to be through the North entrance or Pine Crest. Please continue to park at alternate parking locations until this project is complete. This project is anticipated to take 2 weeks.

• August 9th began parking lot preparation at the Merrill Center. This will mean that the parking lot will be in a gravel state until remainder building needs are addressed, allowing for final paving. Stay tuned for further directions regarding parking as the project unfolds!
