HIGH-EFFICIENCY RAMP OVENCatalytic Industrial Systems, man-ufacturer of high-efficiency ovenssystems, has introduced a high-effi-ciency ramp oven technology.Catalytic infrared ramp ovens—

sometimes called gel or boosterovens—are a highly effective way toincrease production capacity andline speeds. When retrofit into anexisting oven, no additional floorspace is required. Catalytic infraredramp ovens efficiently and preciselypreheat the surface of the part. Thisenables the convection oven to workmore efficiently, because part surfaceand coating are at optimum temper-ature the instant they enter the con-vection stage.

Ramp ovens used in powder coat-ing operations accelerate cure bygelling the powder prior to enteringthe convection heat zone for finalcure. Key features of the CatalyticInfrared Curing Oven include apurge cycle before start-up, compli-ance with NFPA 86, and pre-assem-bled PLC-controlled gas trains thatinclude gas pressure regulators, highand low safety switches, and modu-lating gas valves. Heater zones arepiped in loops for optimum unifor-mity of gas flow and pressure. Ovenand controls are fully assembled andtested before shipment. Catalyticinfrared ramp ovens are customdesigned to the application. Systemsare also engineered to productionrequirements, and curing specifica-

tions for waterborne, solvent-basedand powder paint applications. Theyare a proven alternative for compa-nies that need to maintain the high-est uniformity of powder distribu-tion, and quality coating cure. Formore information, visit www.catalyt-icirovens.com

HOT AIR CONVECTION DRYINGAND CURING OVEN SYSTEMSDavid Weisman, L.L.C. has intro-duced its latest horizontal convey-orized gas fired and electricallyheated hot air convection dryingand curing systems design for cus-tomers to dry water off and/or cureliquid and powder coatings on a

wide range of products processedhorizontally. The system featuresgreat temperature uniformity uti-lizing bottom-up, horizontal ortop-down air flow and controls, anair recirculation and exhaust sys-tem, and a complete energy effi-cient insulated oven enclosure. Thesystem can be used as a stand-alonecomplete horizontal conveyorizeddrying or cure oven system or inconjunction with coating applica-tion equipment and incoming andoutgoing conveyors.

MULTI-MODE ROBOTIC BLASTSYSTEMGuyson Corporation has unveiled arobotic pressure-blast machinethat operates either as a seven-axisrotary table surface preparation sys-tem or as a horizontal roller blastingsystem for preparing inside and out-side diameter surfaces of hollow

NEWproductsshaft components. The multiple-mode concept makes a separateroller blast machine unnecessary.

The multi-tasking robotic blastcabinet features a 12-foot-longtrack extension with a poweredtransfer cart on which a servomo-tor-driven turntable of 1,000 kilo-gram weight capacity is mounted. The table is 84 inches in diameterand provided with T-slots andquick-change fixture locating hard-ware to enable processing of a widevariety of parts of different shapesand sizes. When the roller drive unitis needed for grit-blasting longcylindrical parts, it can be loweredinto position by overhead crane andbolted to the table in less than 30minutes.

Other features: two blast pots, eachfeeding two pressure-blast nozzles, allow the operator to choose betweentwo different blast media specifiedfor separate surface preparationprocesses. The media reclamationsystem separates the recirculating gritby two vibratory screen classifiersthat deliver only media of the speci-fied size to each pressure pot. Dualmedia capability further extends theversatility of the multi-mode roboticblast system.

In the rotary table mode of opera-tion, with the rollers removed andone of the interchangeable part-holding fixtures locked in place topositively locate and orient the com-ponent, the turntable is controlled asa seventh axis of coordinated roboticmotion as the six-axis articulatedrobot arm executes the nozzlemotion program. The correct blast-ing angle, nozzle stand-off distanceand surface speed are precisely andconstantly maintained throughoutthe surface preparation process, evenas the robotic nozzle manipulatortraces the contours of complex-

shaped components. If desired, control of other blasting

process parameters, such as blastpressure or grit flow rate, can beincluded for each component andautomatically recalled whenever thatpart program is selected.

Prospective users of automated orrobotic blasting equipment areinvited to submit sample compo-nents for free laboratory testingand application engineering evalua-tion at the blast machine builder'sfactory in northeastern New YorkState.

ANODIZE SEALER Recognizing customers’ desire tooffer products that provide the envi-ronmentally-friendly advantages ofanodized aluminum, Reliant andClariant have introduced AnodalCS-3 Powder, a new cobalt-free sealthat is a direct replacement forAnodal CS-2N Powder.

Increasingly anodizers are beingasked to certify that their productsmeet the requirements of RoHS andREACH/SVHC. UnderREACH/SVHC, cobalt is now on theunfavorable list of metals.

Anodal CS-3 provides an excellentopportunity for anodizers to proac-tively address the mounting con-cerns over cobalt. With similar seal-ing properties and seal quality, thisproduct is an excellent choice foranyone concerned about compliancewith REACH/SVHC. CurrentlyAnodal CS-2N does meet the require-ments of RoHS.

Anodal CS-3 Powder, when addedto water, produces a long-life, cobalt-free room temperature seal. Thisnickel fluoride-based seal can beused for clear and color anodizedaluminum coatings. Some of thebenefits include:

• Very low or no energy costs• Reduction of excess humidity in

the workplace• No ventilation needed

• Virtual elimination of sealing smut

Anodal CS-3 Powder is compatiblewith Anodal CS-2N Powder, allowingtank conversion without the need forprocess or procedural change.Coatings sealed with Anodal CS-3Powder in accordance with the rec-ommended procedure meet or sur-pass the requirements of Dye StainTest – ASTM-B136 and ISO 2143Acid Dissolution: ASTM-B680 andISO 3210.

SPINNER HANGER BLASTERSViking Blast & Wash Systems hasreleased SH 3660, the newest blasterin its industrial line of spinner hang-er blasters. This new and redesignedunit has a wider 36" wide by 60" tallblast zone than its predecessor, andbrings new efficiency to consumers.

The redesigned unit eliminates

the need for a lower screw auger, reducing wear while improving effi-ciency. The air intake is very aggres-sive and allows for application ofmore than 2500 CFM, yieldingcleaner abrasive and a cleaner cabi-net. The drum is made of man-ganese and is lined with 1/2" thickcast chrome/moly liners. Mostapplications are covered by the stan-dard offering, but can also be fitted

with a rotary scalping drum, auxil-iary abrasive hoppers and 20 HP, 25HP or 30 HP blast wheels vs. thestandard 15 HP.

Viking uses safety light curtains asstandard with two palm buttonsyielding a level of safety. All Vikingcartridge style dust collectors aresold with NFPA required deflagra-tion panels as standard.
