Windass Returns for Barton (Source: Barton Town Old Boys) Hull City legend Dean Windass is set to turn out once again this weekend for KoolSport NCEL Division One side, Barton Town Old Boys.

Despite protestations that his recent debut against Yorkshire Amateur was a "one off", he has made himself available for selection and goes straight into the squad for their game against Grimsby Borough at The Euronics Ground on Saturday.

A Club spokesman said: "Dean has been in more or less constant touch with manager Dave Anderson since the Yorkshire Amateur game as he enjoyed the day so much.

"Once a footballer, always a footballer. Either that or he's a glutton for punishment!"

Although the match is a scheduled home game for Borough, it has been switched to Barton as the new Grimsby Community Stadium is not yet ready for action.

New Assistant Boss at Maltby (Source: Maltby Main) Maltby Main manager Steve Adams has recruited Julian Watts as his assistant.

Watts started out with Rotherham United as an apprentice but, after only two years in the first team, he moved on to Sheffield Wednesday.

He left Sheffield Wednesday four years later to play for Leicester City and eventually went to Luton Town on loan in 1999.

Luton clearly suited Watts as he became a first team regular and he made 67 league appearances in two seasons.

At the end of 2000–01, he decided to join Australian club Northern Spirit where he played until 2004 when they folded.

Maltby are hoping that Watts' experience and know- how will help kick start their season and lift them up the Premier Division table.

Seadogs Duo Are Hospitalised (Source: Scarborough Athletic) Scarborough Athletic suffered a double blow at the weekend when their manager and one of their players were hospitalised in separate freak incidents.

A statement on the club's website says: "As you are probably aware, Boro manager Brian France took a severe knock to the head from a football while stood in the dug-out at last Saturday's match against Liversedge.

"This event, although treated lightly by Brian at the time, preceded a further incident at his home later that evening, when he suffered a black-out and fell backwards down a flight of stairs which resulted in him being rendered unconscious.

"He was immediately taken by ambulance to the Hull Royal Infirmary where he was diagnosed as having a haemorrhage of the brain from the force of the ball hitting him. He also suffered three broken ribs and broken sternum from the fall on the stairs.

"At this moment in time, he remains under constant supervision in the Acute Assessment Unit at Hull Royal Infirmary, where tests are being carried out to ascertain the full impact of the first incident which it is believed, almost certainly lead to the second incident occurring. He is poorly but stable.

"The consultants and doctors have now fully assessed the situation and have assured the family that Brian will make a full recovery, but the process will be long, slow but above all, determined.

"We will issue a further statement in due course and ask that the family is allowed privacy at this time.

"Get well soon cards for Brian and family can be given to club directors at this Saturday's game, and will be passed to Brian at the earliest opportunity."

Meanwhile, striker Ryan Blott also needed treatment after he suffered what turned out to be a punctured lung during the final five minutes of the game.

After suffering discomfort and pain on the way home and finding it difficult to breathe, he was taken to hospital where the problem was diagnosed and three-and-a-half litres of fluid was drained from his right lung.

Everyone at the KoolSport NCEL wishes Brian and Ryan a speedy recovery.

Premier Division was quickly cut short when a blaze destroyed part of their Dual Seal Stadium last month.

Hearing of their plight, Staveley Miners Welfare realised they could help as a result of the renovation of their own Inkersall Road facilities.

One of their portakabins was going to be relocated in another part of their ground but they decided instead to offer Brighouse the portacabin free of charge.

A spokesman from Staveley Miners Welfare said: "Perhaps only those who spend valuable time, effort and money in maintaining a Non-League ground can really appreciate the heartache caused when vandals damage the club's grounds and belongings.

"This was a token gesture by Staveley and their main sponsors Baris Group Ltd. in providing some assistance to Brighouse Town in their efforts to rebuild their facilities."

Brighouse vice-chairman Ray McLaughlin said: "On behalf of everyone at Brighouse Town, I would like to sincerely thank Terry Damms and Staveley Miners Welfare for their fantastic gesture of the portakabin. It will be invaluable in keeping our Club going whilst things are sorted out.

"Staveley's kindness has once again confirmed what we already knew, that the NCEL has fantastic clubs run by fantastic people. But, we feel Terry's offer of the free cabin when he knew our Club was struggling goes beyond anything we could have expected."

The KoolSport NCEL would like to thank Staveley Miners Welfare for their generosity and also all our member clubs who have shown great understanding and support for Brighouse Town through what is a difficult time for them.

Colls Players Get Special Training (Source: Pontefract Collieries) Pontefract Collieries' players were pleasantly surprised last night to find training being led by a Leeds United and Sheffield United legend as they look to keep top of KoolSport NCEL Division One.

Brian Deane ran the session alongside Football Development Manager Ian Burchnall, who he works closely with for Northern England Universities teams, and Manager Simon Houghton.

Deane scored a magnificent 195 goals in 654 first team appearances so certainly knew the way to goal throughout his illustrious career.

The Colls players were shown several finishing drills and given useful tips on putting the ball in the back of the net.

Houghton said: "It was a real pleasure and a privilege to welcome Brian to Beechnut Lane. We hope to see more of him in the future."

NCEL Match Review #10 - 9th September, 2010 Brighouse Town won a dramatic match at home to Winterton Rangers in midweek to move up into second place in their first season in the KoolSport NCEL Premier Division.

A Nathan Cartman hat-trick helped them to a 4-3 victory with Nicky Boshell getting their other goal whilst Winterton made a fight of it all the way with strikes from Liam Wilkin, Craig Robinson and Ryan Malee.

They are a point behind leaders Bridlington Town and go above Farsley AFC who drew 1-1 at Hall Road Rangers, Mark Jackson getting them a late equaliser after Lee Macklin had given the hosts a first half-lead.

Parkgate’s excellent start continued with a 3-0 home win over Arnold Town that moved them up into fourth spot, Matthew Griffin, Daniel McKenzie and Nathan Swindells with the goals in the last quarter- of-an-hour.

A penalty from Jamal Shain eight minutes from time earned fifth-placed Selby Town three points in their single goal victory at home to Hallam.

Tadcaster Albion are seventh after their 2-0 victory at Long Eaton United, Andrew Dawson with both of their goals before half-time.

Scarborough Athletic picked up their first league win of the season, beating Dinnington Town 4-0 with a Ryan Blott brace and one each from Nathan Hotte and Scott Phillips.

And, Nostell Miners Welfare drew 1-1 at home to Liversedge, Ernest Boafo getting them a second-half equaliser after Jamie Wasley had given the visitors the lead before the hour mark.

Pontefract Collieries have overtaken Eccleshill United at the top of Division One after their 4-0 home victory over Brodsworth Welfare put them ahead on goal difference.

Jason Bentley and Craig Stephens had them two-up

by the interval before Stephens grabbed his second and Luke Smith the fourth late on.

Eccleshill drew 1-1 at Shirebrook Town after taking an early lead through Marcus Edwards.

They were denied the victory when Michael Lyall levelled the scores on the hour mark.

Third placed Louth Town missed a chance to go to the summit as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Bottesford Town, Karl Slack with the goal on 17 minutes.

And, Leeds Carnegie moved up to seventh by winning by the same scoreline at Glasshoughton Welfare, Brice Tyani with the vital strike on the half- hour.

A double from Ryan Johnson helped fifth-placed Handsworth to a 3-1 victory at Worsbrough Bridge Athletic whilst Grimsby Borough also triumphed 3-1 on their travels, Nathan Ireland netting twice as they won at Appleby Frodingham.

Barton Town Old Boys find themselves fourth after drawing 1-1 at home to Hemsworth Miners Welfare.

Maltby Main bowed out of the FA Vase when, despite an early opener from Daniel Reilly, they went down 2-1 at Ashton Town in their First Qualifying Round Replay.

And, Askern Villa are through to the Second Round of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy, thanks to a 2-1 win at Teversal, Tom McLaughlin with the winner with eight minutes to go.

NCEL Match Review #11 - 12th September, 2010 Thackley are the only KoolSport NCEL side definitely through to the next round of the FA Cup after Saturday’s action – but three others have another chance to progress with replays in midweek.

First Round of Qualifying but it was the Dennyfield side who took sole advantage with a 3-1 win over STL Northern League side Marske United.

Luke Hudson had put Thackley ahead on 17 minutes before Danny Brunskill quickly levelled.

That is how it stayed until the last quarter-of-an-hour when James Firth and Harry Thompson made sure the hosts took away the win.

Lincoln Moorlands Railway, Tadcaster Albion and Winterton Rangers are all on their travels in midweek after their matches ended in dramatic draws.

Tadcaster and Winterton will be relieved to have a second bite of the cherry as they both produced late comebacks.

Winterton were two goals down with fifteen minutes to play against East Midlands Counties side Radcliffe Olympic but a Liam Wilkin penalty and then an equaliser from James O’Neill kept them alive in the competition.

Tadcaster left it even later with Nick Thompson levelling in injury time after Steven Johnson had given Northern League outfit Shildon the lead in the opening period.

Conversely, Moorlands were denied victory as Gresley, from the East Midlands Counties League, equalised to make it 2-2 in the 88th minute after Ben Good’s double strike had seemingly been enough.

The remaining three NCEL sides – Bottesford Town, Parkgate and Shirebrook Town – all bowed out to Evo-Stik opposition.

Bottesford were beaten 3-0 by Buxton whilst Parkgate and Shirebrook lost 3-1 to Warrington Town and Lincoln United, respectively.

There was also plenty of drama in the league as Bridlington Town edged a seven-goal thriller to remain top of the Premier Division.

They were cruising to victory as goals from Wayne Wallace, Craig Palmer and Craig Hogg had them three-up after 46 minutes.

Matthew Jackson pulled one back for Nostell before Phil Harrison made it 4-1 before the hour mark.

However, Jackson struck twice more to claim his hat- trick and make it a nervy last ten minutes for the Seasiders but they managed to hold on.

Farsley AFC move up to second with a 2-1 home win over fifth-placed Selby Town, Steve Mallory and Gareth Grant with their goals whilst Jack Debnam halved the deficit for the Robins.

Brighouse Town dropped to third as they were held 2-2 at Dinnington Town, Michael Blythen getting his second for the hosts with three minutes remaining after Brighouse had thought a Darryl Leach brace had earned them victory.

Maltby Main remain bottom and are still searching for their first win of the season as they were beaten 4-1 at home by Pickering Town who move up to sixth.

Main took the lead on three minutes through Greg Mason and also hit the woodwork four times in the opening quarter-of-an-hour.

But, Tom Adams equalised on 26 before a Maltby defender handled in the box in first-half injury time and the Pikes went in at the break ahead courtesy of a Nathan Cook penalty.

The visitors then turned the screw with Marcus Dalton and Lyle Hillier securing the win before the hour.

The most remarkable comeback of the day came at Church Street where Long Eaton United came from 3- 1 down with six minutes remaining to beat hosts Armthorpe Welfare, 4-3.

Craig Morley and Henry Sibenge had Armthorpe in a strong position after just seven minutes and, after Paul Gamble had netted a penalty early in the second half for Long Eaton, Sibenge scored again to give the home side a seemingly unassailable lead.

But, Lee Mellon netted on 84, Sean Gordon grabbed the equaliser four minutes later and the referee pointed to the spot in injury time to allow Gamble to

Scarborough Athletic needed second-half goals from Rob Northen and Scott Phillips to recover from a two-goal deficit to take a point at Liversedge.

And, Hall Road Rangers earned their first win with a 4-2 victory at Arnold Town.

Pontefract Collieries remain top of Division One despite not playing after their closest rivals all passed up on a chance to overtake them.

Eccleshill United stay second on goal difference as they were beaten 1-0 at home by Leeds Carnegie, Mario Campagna with the winner on 81 minutes.

Third placed Louth Town lost 1-0 at Hemsworth Miners Welfare, thanks to a strike on the half-hour by Jon Impey.

Carnegie are fourth with their win ahead of Barton Town Old Boys who drew 3-3 with Grimsby Borough.

It was Borough’s “home” game but, as their new stadium remains unavailable, the match was played at Barton’s Euronics Ground.

And they will be delighted with their late show as goals from Danny Freeman and Luke Mascall in the last twenty minutes denied Barton the victory.

And, sixth-placed Handsworth were thumped 7-2 at Yorkshire Amateur, Tom Marsden grabbing a hat- trick and Curtis Bernard a double for the hosts.

It means only three points separate the top six sides as Division One looks to be living up to its pre- season billing as being one of the tightest promotion races for many years.

Dave Cockerill’s fifteenth-minute goal for Teversal separated the sides in their 1-0 home win over Staveley Miners Welfare whilst Glasshoughton Welfare and AFC Emley played out a 0-0 draw.

Mark Vickerage struck twice for Askern Villa as they beat visitors Appleby Frodingham, 4-1, a win that moves them up to eighth.

And, Rossington Main picked up three points at Brodsworth Welfare, William McGhie’s brace helping them to a 4-2 victory.

NCEL Match Review #12 - 16th September, 2010 Lincoln Moorlands Railway have joined Thackley as the two KoolSport NCEL representatives still in the FA Cup.

They won 2-1 at Gresley in their First Round Qualifying Replay on Tuesday night, courtesy of second-half goals from Scott Lowman and Tom Garrick.

And, they have been given a direct passage into the Third Round of Qualifying as they were due to travel to Ilkeston Town at the next stage.

But, they have now been given a bye following the Derbyshire side’s sad demise this week.

Two other teams from our League were looking to keep their FA Cup hopes alive but were unable to win on their travels in midweek replays.

Winterton Rangers fell to a 2-0 defeat at Radcliffe Olympic whilst, despite goals from Mike Braithwaite and Graeme Whitehead, Tadcaster Albion were beaten 4-2 in extra-time at Shildon.

Appleby Frodingham were winners in their Lincolnshire Senior Trophy First Round match at Central Midlands side Nettleham.

An early own goal started them on their way to a 2-0 victory with Jack Siddall sealing the win in first-half injury time.

An injury time winner grabbed Eccleshill United a dramatic win in the First Round of the Wilkinson Sword Trophy at home to Leeds Carnegie.

Roger Tientchev had seemingly forced extra-time when his 89th minute strike pulled the visitors back level at 2-2.

But, Jack Mitchell stepped up to get the decisive goal for the home side who avenged a 1-0 league defeat to Carnegie on Saturday.

In the Premier Division, Thackley continued their fine start to the campaign with a 5-1 victory at Dinnington Town.

Matthew Mathers, Harry Thompson and Joshua McClean had them three-up by the interval before Michael Blythen pulled one back from the penalty spot just after the hour mark.

Two more goals in the last few minutes, Mathers’ second and the fifth from Andy King, ensured the win for the visitors that moves them up into fourth place, five points behind leaders Bridlington Town.

Long Eaton United and Hallam could not be separated at Grange Park even though both sides took the lead in a 2-2 draw.

Joe Boggild’s fifth-minute opener was cancelled out before the break by Martin Bowles, Paul Gamble then gave the hosts the lead in the second period but Reece Littlejohn restored parity with less than a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

And, Armthorpe Welfare won 3-2 at home to Hall Road Rangers with Sam Jones grabbing a brace.

Division One continues to get tighter and tighter with only one point separating the top six after the midweek action.

Two of the leading teams met at the Park Avenue Stadium where Louth Town and Barton Town Old Boys played out a 1-1 draw.

Adam Crane put Barton ahead on 62 minutes before Mark Fairburn quickly levelled for the White Wolves.

Staveley Miners Welfare moved to within touching distance of the top with a 2-1 victory over visitors Worsbrough Bridge Athletic, Ryan Damms and Jamie Smith with their goals within a minute of each other in the first half whilst Scott Turner pulled one back for Athletic on 57.

A Karl Slack hat-trick helped Bottesford Town to a 5-0 win at home to Askern Villa with Mark Anderson getting the other two goals.

And, Teversal were 2-1 winners at Handsworth.

NCEL Match Review #13 - 20th September, 2010 Eleven KoolSport NCEL teams have joined Thackley and Bridlington Town in the First Round of the FA Vase.

Five of them are Division One sides with AFC Emley, Barton Town Old Boys, Leeds Carnegie, Louth Town, Staveley Miners Welfare progressing at the weekend.

A late Richard Medcalf brace helped Barton Town to a 3-0 win at home to Pinxton whilst AFC Emley went through by the same scoreline over visitors Rossington Main.

Matt Thorpe struck twice in the first half before a late Marc Townsend goal ensured victory over their NCEL rivals.

A double each from Chris Coy and Aymen Tahar saw Staveley go through with an impressive 4-0 win at home to Atherton Collieries.

Carnegie and Louth were victors on their travels with Leeds going through 1-0 at Horden Colliery Welfare, courtesy of a Paul Harrison goal in the 42nd minute.

And, Louth Town produced a shock with a 2-1 win at Premier Division side Lincoln Moorlands Railway.

Kurt Crossley and Danny Kilmore struck twice in a minute to put them in control before the interval.

Ben Good pulled one back for the home side but they could not find an equaliser to force a replay.

But, six top flight sides did taste victory, the biggest being Hallam's 6-2 thumping of Penrith at Sandygate.

Scott Preece struck a hat-trick for the hosts whilst Martin Brissett, Joe Boggild and Reece Littlejohn also joined in the scoring.

Brighouse Town were 3-1 winners over visitors Yorkshire Amateur, Nicky Boshell with two of the goals in an explosive first half-hour for the home side.

Winterton Rangers also dispatched fellow NCEL opposition as they beat Grimsby Borough 3-0 in a game switched to their ground.

Liam Wilkin struck twice in the opening seventeen minutes before James O'Neill delivered the killer blow shortly after the interval.

Two goals in the last ten minutes from Jevaise Christie helped Arnold Town progress with a 4-2 victory at Calverton Miners Welfare.

And, Scarborough Athletic overcame what had been a difficult week for them off-the-pitch with a 3-2 win at home to Crook Town to set up a First Round clash with their landlords, Bridlington.

Scott Phillips scored two, adding to Rob Northen's opener, to surely send some cheer to boss Brian France who remains in hospital.

Liversedge and Eccleshill United could not be separated in 120 minutes of football in their all-NCEL clash and so will replay on Tuesday.

And, Selby Town came from 3-1 down to draw at West Auckland Town, thanks to goals from Jack Debnam and Matt Bird, and their replay is also on Tuesday.

But, the FA Vase adventure came to an end for five more of our sides with Appleby Frodingham, Dinnington Town, Parkgate, Pontefract Collieries and Worsbrough Bridge Athletic all bowing out to non- NCEL opposition.

Farsley AFC climbed to the top of the Premier Division with a 2-0 victory at fellow high-flyers Thackley, Gareth Grant with both goals to move them one point ahead of Bridlington Town.

Going above Thackley are Long Eaton United and Pickering Town who both claimed victories.

Long Eaton were 3-1 winners at Hall Road Rangers, their victory started by a Craig Suddaby own goal on ten minutes before Shaun Rickford headed home the second on his debut soon after.

James McGarry pulled one back before the half-hour but Paul Gamble restored the two goal cushion in the 43rd minute.

And, with no further scoring in the second period, Long Eaton go up into fourth.

Pickering, meanwhile, beat visitors Armthorpe Welfare, 2-1, with Dean Craig getting the winner in injury time.

Greg Mason's 58th minute strike earned Maltby Main their first win of the season, 1-0 at Nostell Miners Welfare.

It was a day for the away sides to forget in Division One as both games ended up as comprehensive victories for the home teams.

Handsworth were 4-0 winners at home to Brodsworth Welfare to move up into second, Leon Wainman with a brace whilst Tom Beevor and Dan Smith also got on the scoresheet.

And, Shirebrook Town beat visitors Teversal, 3-0, in their local derby, Michael Lyall netting twice in the second half after Sean Dickinson had given the Langwith Road side the lead by the interval.
