Kyle Okposo saw his eight-game point streak (6g/7a) cometo an end Saturday against the Hurricanes. NHL Scoring Race: John Tavares is tied for sixth in the NHL scoring race with 46 points (17g/29a). Kyle Okposo is tied for 13th in theleague with 42 points (16g/26a). Back-To-Backs: The Islanders open their 11th set of back-to-back games tonight. They are 4-6-0 on the front end, and 3-5-2 on theback-end of back-to-backs this season. The club will total 16 back-to-back sets this season. Nabby In Net: Evgeni Nabokov has started nine of 10 games since returning from a groin injury Dec. 14. SHAWN HORCOFF scored the lone goal for the Stars with a shorthanded tally on Saturday. Forward RICH PEVERLEY tallied a primary assist in the contest. Henrik Zetterberg (2), Joakim Andersson, Drew Miller and Tomas Tartar all scored for Detroit. Dallas goaltenders DAN ELLIS and KARI LEHTONEN combined to stop 22 of 27 shots in the contest, while Red Wings netminderJimmy Howard made 44 save in the win. The Stars went 0-for-7 on the power play and was a perfect 4-of-4 on the penalty kill.

 ROAD WARRIORSThe Stars open a three-game road trip on the East Coast on Monday as the team travels to Nassau Coliseum to take on the New YorkIslanders. Dallas is 2-1-1 in the last four road games, and is 9-2-3 over their last 14 tilts away from home including a six-game road winningstreak from Nov. 3 –17. That marked the team’s first six-game road winning streak since 2012, when the team won six consecutivegames from Feb. 21 –March 3.  (PENALTY) SHOT HEARD ‘ROUND THE WORLDStars forward VALERI NICHUSHKIN was awarded a penalty shot at the 5:23 mark of the second period of Thursday’s contest, andwas successful against Montreal’s Carey Price for his first career penalty shot goal. Thursday’s penalty shot marked Dallas’ league-leading sixth penalty shot of the 2013-14 campaign. Per the Elias Sports Bureau, the Stars’ six penalty shot attempts so far this season are the most the team has attempted in a singleseason in franchise history. Dallas is one penalty shot attempt away from tying the NHL record of seven penalty shots in a single season. The last team to attemptseven penalty shots in a season was the Tampa Bay Lightning who did it in 2010-11. The Stars have scored on three of their six penalty shots this season (50%), with goals from VERNON FIDDLER (11/5 at Boston),ANTOINE ROUSSEL (12/3 at Chicago) and NICHUSHKIN (1/2 vs. Montreal).

 OH CAPTAIN! MY CAPTAIN!Stars captain JAMIE BENN was held off the score sheet on Saturday as his five-game point streak (4-3=7) came to an end. It markedthe Victoria, B.C. native’s second five-game point streak this season. BENN has now scored five goals and has eight points (5-3=8) in his last seven games. The 24-year-old currently ranks second on the team with 36 points (14-22=36), while his team-leading 22 assists is tied for 15th

among Western Conference skaters. The captain played in his 300th career NHL game on Dec. 27. Since entering the League in the 2009-10 season, BENN has amassed227 career points (95-132=227). At 24 years and 162 days old, BENN became the 10th-youngest player in Stars history to reach the 300-game plateau.

 THE PEVS DISPENSERStars forward RICH PEVERLEY earned an assist on Saturday, and has now posted a helper in each of his last three games (0-3=3). The 31-year-old now has four assists in his last five games, and seven helpers over his last nine. PEVERLEY has 14 assists and 19 points in 40 games this season. The Kingston, Ont. went 9-for-16 (56%) from the faceoff circle on Saturday night. Over his last eight games, PEVERLEY has gone68.3% at the faceoff circle, winning 82 of 120 draws.
