    Christian Community

The idea of community in the Christian context finds its origins in thescriptural ideal found in the recorded actions of the early followersof Christ. We are told that in meeting together they supported each otherand shared everything in common.

The former Beirut hostage, Brian Keenan, spoke of the richness that isfound in diversity and so it is with our Parishes. In Newbridge one findsa multitude of people all possessing a variety of gifts and talents.

Areas like music, singing, reading and floral arranging all come to mind. The willingness of people to become involved and participate in theareas mentioned in this leaflet, make for the creation of a communitythat is vibrant and alive but also a community where one finds a spirit ofwarmth and welcome.

If you are interested in getting involved in any of the parish activities orcommunity groups, please contact:

ST. PAUL’S PRAYERThis, then, is what I pray, kneeling before the Father, from whom every family,

whether spiritual or natural, takes its name: Out of his infinite glory, may hegive you the power through his Spirit for your hidden self to grow strong, so thatChrist may live in your hearts through faith, and then, planted in love and builton love, you will with all the saints have strength to grasp the breadth and thelength, the height and the depth; until, knowing the love of Christ, which isbeyond all knowledge, you are filled with the utter fullness of God. Glory be tohim whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask orimagine; glory be to him from generation to generation in the Church and inChrist Jesus for ever and ever. Amen.

    Glory be to the Father,

    and to the Son,

    and to the Holy Spirit.

    Amen.

    EVENING THOUGHTS

This evening, Lord, I give you thanks. The light is fading, the sun is gone.

I ask your forgiveness, Lord, for my failure in your service this day.

I see that you were present to me this dayin the love of those I met,

in the call to sympathise and console.I remember, Lord, in your presence

those who have no friends, no food, no home, no shelter.

I put to rest with you the troubles of this day.I ask the peace of your presence until the

new day dawns.May the protection you give at the end of the day

be with me and my familyall the days of our lives.

    PRAYER OF FRIENDSHIP

Don’t walk in front of me: I may not follow.Don’t walk behind me. I may not lead.

Walk beside me and be my friend.Make me aware, O Lord, ofthe eye that beholds me,the hand that holds me,the heart that loves me,

    Evil would ensnare me, let it not come near me.Calm the wind, make the waves cease;

Enfold me, O Lord, in your peace.

President Mary Robinson officially opened Newbridge Parish Centre inMay 1992. The refurbished building is one of the oldest and most historicin the town and has served the parish in different roles for over 150 years. It is located on the ‘Station Road’ next to College Park on what is officiallyknown as Charlotte Street.

The building is home to many groups and organisations, including theParish Office, and is usually a ‘hive of activity’.

The Parish Centre came into existence to cope with the ever-growingpopulation of Newbridge and their changing needs. When the parish wassmaller and the priests were available to the public almost on a twenty-four hour basis, their houses were in effect “parish centres” where onewent with problems, for advice or to have the Mass cards signed. Thetheory is that having a place where non-pastoral and administrativetasks can be performed will free the Parish Team for Pastoral work.

Some of the groups who are based inthe Parish Centre:

Accord, the Catholic Marriage AdvisoryGroup has five counselling rooms andtwo offices upstairs as well as the use oftwo large meeting rooms.

To create an atmosphere for prayer, light a candle and place it in thecentre of the room. Leave a few moments of silence to become still andaware of God’s presence with us.

All of us gathered as one people, let us join hands and pray the words ofJesus: Our Father…

Select any one of the Bible quotations below and ask the Holy Spirit to bring italive in your heart.

“Jesus is the love of God made visible.” Rom 8:39

“I have not come to condemn but to save.” John 12:47

“I have loved you with an everlasting love, so I am constant in my affection foryou.” Jeremiah 31:3

“Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you, I have called you by your name, youare mine. You are precious in my eyes and I love you.” Is. 43:1.4

“Ask, and it will be given to you: search, and you will find: knock, and the doorwill be opened to you.” Matthew 7:7-8
