Rudloff Places First at Regional Speech Tournament: GHS sophomore Noah Rudloff recently

competed in the Regional High School Speech Tournament and was awarded first place in humorous interpretation. He will be competing at the Kentucky High School Speech League (KHSSL) State Tournament on March 15-16 in Lexington, KY.

Parent Volunteers Needed: We are in the process of planning our second annual Operation Preparation

activities for the month of March. We are in need of volunteers for the following:

In support of our efforts, the Kentucky Department of Education and the Department of Workforce Development have set aside the month of March 2013, for Operation Preparation, a community-based advising initiative. During Operation Preparation, trained volunteer community advisors will meet one-on-one with 8th-and 10th-grade students in a public setting at school. Using the student’s Individual Learning Plan (ILP) they will talk with the student about the student’s career aspirations and required education/training, whether the student is on target to meet these goals and whether the student is taking the courses recommended to prepare for a successful future. If you are interested in volunteering to meet one-on-one with students at our ILP Consultation Day being held on Friday, March 21, 2013 from 7:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m., please contact Mrs. Daniels at 842-3627 or email her at [email protected].

In addition, we will be sponsoring our Second Annual Career Fair on March 5, 2013. The first Career Fair included professionals from 12 of the 14 career clusters. Each speaker will be asked to speak to 2 different groups for 30 minutes each. The following are the available time slots: 7:35-8:40, 8:45-9:50, and 9:55-11:00. If you are interested in sharing your career at our Career Day being held on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 7:30 a.m. – 11:00 p.m., please contact Rita Daniels at 842-3627 or email her at [email protected].

Senior Attendance Rule: Seniors that accumulate unexcused absences, tardies, or a combination of both

that are equivalent to 10 days will not be permitted to participate in graduation ceremonies. This includes tardies to school, all- day absences, partial day absences, and early check outs that are not excused by a parent note, Doctor’s note, or other qualified note. Students that accumulate an equivalent of 10 unexcused absences or more will be able to earn a diploma but will not be able to attend the graduation ceremony. The complete policy can be found on page 14 Section XIII of the Greenwood High School Student Handbook which can be accessed at the GHS website.

Attendance Notes: Good attendance is essential to being successful in school. Please be reminded that if

you are absent from or tardy to school you must bring a note within 5 school days of the absence or tardy in order for it to be excused. There are absolutely no exceptions to this policy. You may use up to five (5) parent/guardian notes per semester. Be aware that a parent/guardian note is only valid for one day of absence or tardy. For example, if a student is absent for 3 consecutive days and a parent note is sent to school within five (5) days, then that will count as three (3) of the five (5) parent notes. A doctor’s note will cover a health event of consecutive days.

Extended School Services (ESS): ESS is available on Thursdays for tutoring, make up tests/quizzes, and computer lab from 2:35-4:00 p.m. There is no bus transportation home. Students attending ESS must be picked up no later than 4:00 p.m. Any student who would like to become paid peer tutor please see Mrs. Lori Foust in Room 203 to pick up an

application.

Driving Permits: Parents, if you have a student turning 16 and trying to get a driving permit, the student will need a School

Compliance Verification form before you go to the Justice Center. The student can get that form in Guidance from Ms. Wallace, the secretary. Please have the student come in and request the form and allow 24 hours to complete the request. Once the request is completed the student will be given the form and one of the parents need to sign and date the form in the designated place in the top box on the form. Then you give that form to the drivers permit office.

Also, if your student needs a transcript to send to a college, or job, please have your student come to guidance and fill out a request with Ms. Wallace. Please allow 24 hours for the request to be completed.

Just a reminder: There is no faculty or staff in office during school breaks or holidays during the school year. Our office staff works two weeks after school lets out for the summer and comes back two weeks before school starts in the fall.

Seniors: When requesting a letter of recommendation or assistance with admissions/scholarship applications, please

allow a minimum of five school days. Click here to see Letter of Recommendation information that the counselors request from the student.

As a senior you may make ONE college visit on a school day as long as you get it pre-approved by Mr. Dunn. Simply write a note, drop it off at the attendance desk, and we will take it from there. You will need to turn in proof of your visit from the post-secondary institution upon your return to school.

Parent Access to Infinite Campus: Parents will need three items in order to access the student portal.

They are the student ID number, student date of birth, and the Infinite Campus website. Log on at https://infinitecampus.warren.kyschools.us/campus/portal/warren.jsp User Name will be the 10 digit student ID#. Password is the students Date of Birth in MMDDYY format. Example – 080691 If you are a new student to Greenwood effective January 1, 2010 – here is the way you will need to log on: User Name will be the 10 digit student ID# Password is the student’s first initial of their first name and first initial of their last name and your Date of Birth

in MMDDYY format. Example – ac080691 If you try to access your account more than three times using incorrect student information, you will be locked

out of the IC system. You must email the following address to have your password reset. It may take up to 72 hours to process this request. The email address is: [email protected]

Greenwood High School will be the host school for the 14th District Girls and Boys Basketball Tournament. The tournament will begin Monday, Feb. 18th and end with the girls’ championship being on Friday, Feb. 22nd/boys championship on Saturday, Feb. 23rd. The Lady Gators will play on Monday, Feb. 18th at 6PM against Warren East. The winner of that game will

play on Tuesday, Feb. 19th at 6PM against Bowling Green. The Gators also play on Monday, Feb. 18th at 7:30PM against South Warren. The winner of that game will

play Warren East on Wednesday, Feb. 20th at 7PM. Admission to all district games will be $6 per person. No student, teacher, or lifetime passes will be honored

since it is the district tournament.

Attention parents of student-athletes: Please be aware that when a student-athlete has any type of injury, the student-athlete needs to report that to the coach immediately so the head coach may fill out two documents-an accident report and an insurance claim form. If your child needs to see a doctor, these two documents will be important to you. Also, you need to secure these documents no later than 60 days from the injury to make sure that the insurance that the WCBE has purchased as a supplemental insurance may be properly submitted. Parents need to understand that this supplemental insurance will cover some costs after the parent(s) insurance has been filed first. There are limitations to what the WCBE insurance can/does cover. This insurance has different coverage limits than were purchased by the WCBE in past years. It is up to the parent to make sure they properly file all insurance paperwork.
