Printed by WCCA, The Granary, Bates Green Farm, Arlington, BN26 6SH News from your Local Conservatives Spring 2016 intouch 2016 POLICE & CRIME COMMISSIONER ELECTIONS A message from Nus Ghani MP It seems only yesterday that we were pounding the streets in advance of the general election, but now it’s election time again. Three and a half years ago Sussex chose a Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner, while Kent and Surrey did not and have regretted it ever since. We’re lucky to have a brilliant candidate, and incumbent, in Katy Bourne – let’s do all we can to support her and keep the Sussex PCC’s office painted blue. On Thursday 5th May residents have the chance to keep Katy Bourne as Sussex Police & Crime Commissioner. Katy has a strong track record holding the police to account, supporting victims, improving public confidence and making savings to reinvest in frontline policing. Recently, she opened recruitment for 100 new PCs, more PCSOs and issued cameras to all frontline officers. This election matters – the PCC sets the £250m budget for policing in Sussex, has the power to appoint and, if necessary, dismiss the chief constable and must ensure residents’ views are heard when setting policing priorities. Three and a half years ago Sussex chose a Conservative Police and Crime Commissioner, while Kent and Surrey did not and have regretted it ever since. HOW TO CONTACT US.

Planning MattersThe old Wadhurst College site continues to be built out and will provide 17 apartments in the Main College and Coach house with 26 new houses in the grounds. None are affordable units. The Rydons’ development at the end of the Lower High St for 35 houses (30% affordable) is halted because of a judicial review, requested by neighbours, to overturn planning permission. The Old Station Rd. development of 31 houses (30% affordable), rejected by Wealden planning committee, has been appealed by the developers to the Government Planning Inspectorate.

Your local councillors objected to the last two with regard to impact on the surrounding countryside (AONB) and breaching Wadhurst’s development boundary. They expressed concern that the College new homes will not count against the target number of new homes for Wadhurst (285 proposed in new Local Plan).

Road Safety in WadhurstRoad safety is a key issue in Wadhurst, especially speeding cars and the need for safe crossing points for pedestrians. County Councillor Bob Standley has been working on the following:• Pedestrian crossing outside the primary school and pinch point by George St (50/50 funding agreed between Parish and County

Councils). Partly completed.• Pedestrian crossing outside Sacred Heart School (shared funding to be

agreed).• Alterations to High Street (including pinch points and dropped kerbs)

funded by the County Council, starting Summer 2016.New Village Hall ?In response to the question:‘What progress has been made?’• A working party has been set

up by Wadhurst Institute, Hall & Field Trust to work up a plan.

• Initial public consultations and user surveys have taken place.

• An architect has been appointed to draw up plans for public consultation.
