Congratulations to Miss Goncalves who was placed second in Excellence in Secondary School Leadership at the 17th Annual National Teaching Awards on Saturday 25th March at the Galla-gher Convention Centre. She received a Silver Award. She was voted top in Gauteng at the Provincial Awards on 24th February.
“The National Teaching Awards evening is one of the most pres-tigious events on the Department of Basic Education’s calendar” says the Minister Angie Motshekga, “where the exemplary men and women who go far beyond the call of duty are appreciated in a manner benefitting the responsibility they hold.”
The keynote speaker was President Jacob Zuma and both he and Minister Motshekga praised the teachers for their hard work. This year’s awards were dedicated to OR Tambo who taught Maths and Science for 5 years before going into law. Mr Tambo would have been 100 this year.

We are Jeppe Girls blooming and display-

"The year is 2100 and South Africa has been ravaged by
civil war, famine, drought and disaster. The society is divided and disparate. The country is starving and desperate. It has
not rained since 2016 and the situation is perilous as water and food rations run out. When the village resorts to mob justice

Tennis
A total of 16 matches were played (8 singles and 8 dou-
bles). Jeppe won 11 of the 16 matches
Having 200 girls participate
on a Saturday morning against a like-minded school
provided us with a tough test. It is something we
hope to do more often as the experience will serve as
invaluable for our teams in the seasons ahead and the
memories will last forever.
A big thank you from Mr
Lincoln to all the girls and
staff who participated.

Thank you to all Friends and Family for supporting
Jeppe High School for Girls
Jeppe embarked on the 2017 blanket drive at the end
of January and we hope to collect 670 blankets for distribution to the less fortunate during May and June.
Each class has a target of 20 blankets to achieve and we have been selling subsidised wool to enable them
to meet this. We have also been running Crochet classes for beginners and a Master class for those in-
terested in improving their skills.
The deadline for receiving blankets is Tuesday 25th
April. Blankets will then be displayed at the school on Thursday 4th May. Each blanket is tagged and labelled
with a 67blankets for Nelson Mandela as we are still part of this initiative even though there is no world
record to go for this year.
Thank you to all of the girls and staff and members of
the community who have made and donated blankets already. Particular congratulations to our new
crocheters who have taken up the challenge and to the
staff who have assisted with the drive and the RCL and councillors who are motivating the girls.
The blankets are starting to come in now. As at 30th
March, we have received 178. Wool sales will recom-mence on the first day of the second term.
Andrea Battiston of
8c has already handed in 17 blan-
kets to date! She crochets with her
Mum, sister and
extended family.
