Intermediate Boys Volleyball Congratulations to the intermediate boys volleyball. They didn't drop a set all day. They beat Elisabeth Murdoch College and Gleneagles Secondary College to get to the finals. We were the underdogs against Melbourne High but with great determination they got the job done. Now they are off to state. Great job boys!
Cultural Diversity Day On Friday 19th May, the Primary School held their annual Cultural Diversity Day (National/Cultural Dress Day and Morning Tea) to celebrate World Day for Cultural Diversity. This is the third year the Primary School has held this event after introducing the Global Events Calendar 3 years ago. We recognise the positive impact of living in a Global Society and the immense choice and richness in diversity that it brings. Our College has over 67 different cultures and last Friday we celebrated each one by asking students and parents to dress up in National or Cultural dress and bring a plate of food from their cultural background, to share. We were very fortunate to have Judith Graley MP, State Member for Narre Warren South attend our morning tea. One parent painted our hands with henna this is becoming quite a tradition at our College on this day. We endeavour to empower the children to make decisions that are anchored in firm and positive values and to have PRIDE in our school, which will help them succeed in a world that is increasingly connected and cross-cultural.
Year 10 Marine Biology
Term 2 Issue 7 26th May 2017
During Term 1 and 2 Marine Biology students have been looking at the many different species of invertebrates and vertebrates found in our Marine ecosystems. These species include: Seaweed, Sponges, jellyfish, corals, sea anemone, flatworms, sea snails, sea slugs, octopus, squid, crabs, lobsters, starfish, sea cucumbers, sea urchins, fish, marine mammals and marine birds. The class has done a variety of different exciting activities to learn about them all. One of the first practical activities the class did was make seaweed cookies. Seaweed is a very common product found in food and most of the time you don’t even know it’s there. Seaweed is also found in many cosmetic products. The cookies tasted more like honey than anything else. Now I know you all think YUCK but they were extremely yummy. We went on an excursion to Melbourne Museum and Imax to watch “Under the Sea” in 3D, an extremely beautiful documentary. We then explored the Marine Life Exhibition and discovered the many wonders of our Victorian waters. The Marine Biology class participated in was dissections. We had the joys of dissecting a squid, crab and fish. Boy was our room stinky those days! The students had a lot of enjoyment cutting open the animals, exploring the locations of the body parts and just having fun. This was an excellent way for the students to learn the parts and functions of the different types of marine animals. Our next adventure is to Melbourne Aquarium to learn about conservation and how to protect threatened species.
