Paul will work with Primary and Secondary staff to engage students in reading and writing. Paul will also present a parent workshop to offer advice and suggestions to parents who are keen to support their children in reading and writing. Thank you to Ms Mason for coordinating the submission. TELL THEM FROM ME SURVEY NOW OPEN The Partners in Learning parent survey is part of the ‘Tell Them from Me’ suite of surveys on student engagement. The parent survey helps to clarify and strengthen the important relationship between parents and school. The survey is designed to measure, assess and report insights from the parent point of view at the school and system levels. The focus of this NSW survey is on student wellbeing, engagement and effective teaching practices. Last term the student surveys provided valuable information which has allowed us to understand how students feel about their wellbeing, engagement and learning. We hope that parents and carers from Molong Central will take the opportunity to help us in our quest to ensure student wellbeing, engagement and learning is strengthened. There will be many opportunities for parents and carers to access the survey and these opportunities will be advertised in the newsletter and on School Stream CLUB 100 The photos below and at right are of our latest students who have successfully joined Club 100. Club 100 acknowledges the efforts of students who have read 100 home readers. Upon reaching this level, all students are invited to join me for morning tea and take turns at reading from one of their books.

TEXTILES EXCURSION Last Wednesday morning Calliope Treacy, Shay Osborne, Tieke Thomas, Sharna Campbell, Jessica Burgess and Andee Sheedy commenced their journey to Sydney for the Textiles and Design overnight excursion. We visited The Whitehouse Studio of Design at Surry Hills and the Powerhouse Museum (MAAS) to learn rendering techniques and to view numerous exhibitions, in particular Collette Dinnigan’s exhibition, “Unlaced”. The Whitehouse Institute of Design offered a free two hour illustration which highlighted the value of and process needed to achieve rendering, via a pencil medium. The results from the students were amazing. Collette Dinnigan, Isabella Blow and the design students of Sydney Fashion Schools exhibited astonishing works which inspired the students. Dinnigan’s inspiration of beads, sequins and lace transformed dresses into exquisite red carpet garments which had superior tactile qualities. The students were engaged in determining the inspirations behind Dinnigan’s superior designs and the factors which influenced her work from the new and affordable Target collection “Wild Hearts”, to the signature lace and embellished designs of “Unlaced”. These students were exemplary role models of Molong Central School and a true pleasure to accompany on the excursion. Mrs Lyn Corinth, Teacher.

Secondary News

SECONDARY SRC The Secondary SRC (Student Representative Council) have a brand new face. With our Year 12 students now placing their focus on the HSC we have needed to vote in new executive members who will take on the lead roles for 2016/17. The new executive are as follows: President - Tieke Thomas, Vice President - Amy Wilson, Secretary - Jessica Burgess, Treasurer - Sarah Williams, Public relations - Myles Madden, Connor Linde, Amber Williamson This term the SRC are continuing to support important initiatives both in and outside of school. We have recently decided to support Mrs Quigley by funding the Butterfly Effect Program for her Wellbeing Day later on in the year. The program is aimed at assisting girls in navigating social media, developing life skills and building self-worth and resilience. Recently we had a BBQ at the Education Week festivities. All money raised from the day will be donated to the Primary SRC for their friendship chair where children will go if they’re feeling lonely and need a friend. We have also been very busy with the organising of the Pyjama Day which will take place on the Friday Week 7 (2nd September), where students will be able to wear appropriate sleep wear to school. This day supports the Swags for the Homeless Campaign and will be a joint Secondary and Primary event. More details and notes for this day will be sent home in the coming week.

SUNSHINE AND SAND! This week we finally got to start playing with our new sandpit toys which we received from Earn and Learn. I’m not sure that the sandpit has ever been so crowded. The trucks, spades and buckets have been put to good use. Now we’ve just got to stop clogging up the drains with sand as we wash our hands! PREMIER’S SPELLING BEE Each year we have a number of children try their hand at spelling words from the Premiers Spelling Challenge. Each class ran their own eliminations with a final being held between the top spellers in Stage 2 and Stage 3. The competition was very close. I have also heard reports about fellow competitors cheering each other on and readily congratulating each other on their efforts. That’s the Molong School spirit. After all was said and done our Stage 2 representatives will be Evangeline Davy and Cooper Kelly. Our Stage 3 representatives will be Danielle Phillips-Clarke and Ethan Lingat. Well done to these Spelling Champs and all the best in the next round! WESTERN REGION ATHLETICS We have had confirmation that the following students will be representing the Orange District at the Western Athletics Carnival on the 2nd of September. Molong makes up a large contingent of the team. So great to see after we had such hard luck with the weather! We wish them all the very best.

TERM 3 DISCO This term’s Primary Disco had an Olympic Theme. The costumes did not disappoint. We had ancient Olympians, Mascots from Rio, cyclists, gymnasts and weight lifters. Too many to list! This time Mrs Mutton extended an invitation to outlying schools and it was great to see so many of our friends from St Josephs and a few from other small towns. The student’s, as always, had a ball and the teachers went home with their ears ringing and heads pounding. On a serious note, the children, whether they be from MCS or a visiting school, were so well behaved. It is a pleasure to see them all having so much fun!
