Principal’s Message !Kia ora e te Whānau !Matariki was once again a fantas5c community event. Even though the weather tried to beat us, we ‘dug deep’ and con5nued to make it happen. It was great having so many parents and families involved. Thanks to everyone who came for the 7.15am Mihi Whakatau and hongi! Some cultural customs push our own comfort levels at 5mes, but it is important we recognise our Māori heritage and 5kanga. Thank you to everyone for the dona5ons and for helping out on the day. Thanks once again to the “hangi master” Sean Edwards for taking the day off to cook the food for us all. !Special thanks to major contribu5ons from: Brinks Chickens, Templeton Butchery, Bishop family, Baxter family, Anderson family and the Crozier family. !Finally, some ac5on is occurring on the building front. All going well, the new basketball/netball hard court should be ready for Term 3. The new classrooms and administra5on build is due to start in August. We need to be pa5ent as areas of the school are fenced off during these 5mes. !At the start of Term 3 our Enrolment Zone will be in place. We start the term with 147 students and have 10 more to arrive before the end of the year. This takes us to our capacity for the year. In September/October we will plan numbers for 2016 and look at how many places there are and if we need to have a ballot. Please be assured that ALL your home addresses as of 15 September will classed as in zone. !We thank Plussigns for helping develop our new ‘Dig Deep’ logo. Miss Watson’s parents own the company and have kindly supported the school with this. The Māori words encapsulate all our school values. !Have a safe, enjoyable break with friends and family. !Kind regards !Mike Molloy Principal !!!!!!!!!!!

FOS The Disco the other night was fantas5c, thanks to all the people, teachers/parents/students who helped make the night fun for all the children. Everyone seemed to have a great 5me. Next term we will be organising a movie night. The senior students have some big plans for the sandpit/playground area to be refurbished, and I am sure would like lots of money to spend on it! We are are looking for someone to put their hand up to help run a scrap metal drive in September. Maybe put the word out about it and gather some helpers to collect some metal around the area. Have a think about it and email [email protected] if you are keen. Don’t forget about the Entertainment Books www.entbook.co.nz/13733k3. You only need to use the book about twice to get your money back, a Crusaders game and movie or a meal and BOOM you just saved $60! Have a great holiday and see you all next term -‐ Rebecca Moreton. !Spoons, Bowls, etc We have a collec5on of spoons, bowls, etc, which were kindly lent for Matariki. If you did drop any of these items off, can you please call by the staffroom and collect them the next 5me you are passing? Thank you. !Shoe SOS On Wednesday, 17 June, Alex McGimpsey came to school in a pair of black shoes with velcro fastenings, size 2. He went home with two let shoes, one size 2 and one size 11! We have asked the children, but have not found anyone with odd shoes. If your child has these type of shoes, can you please check. The size 11 shoe is in the lost property box, in the staffroom. Thank you. !!!!

The theme this year is “The Living World of Water”. We have been very lucky to have the support of the Living Water Programme. Living Water is a partnership between the Department of Conserva@on (DOC) and Fonterra working with local communi@es, dairy farmers, iwi and other stakeholders to achieve leading edge biodiversity and water quality improvements within the sensi@ve Te Waihora/Lake Ellesmere water catchment, focusing more specifically on the Ararira/LII Catchment.
The morning begins with a short story about our river. Then with the help of the students from the Environment Council of Lincoln High School, many exci@ng ac@vi@es have been planned. Children between the ages of 3 and 12 years will have the chance to crawl through the “river tunnel” to view things that are good and bad for our water; to examine the bugs and the larger life forms that live in our water; as well as producing coloured pictures, seed gardens, mobiles and many other things to take home.
It is always a thoroughly enjoyable event and this year promises to be even beZer than previous years because it is a joint venture. Kids need to bring a caregiver, and we would appreciate a dona@on of $2 per child to support the projects and ac@vi@es of the Lincoln Envirotown Trust projects.
