AnnouncementsUsed Uniform Sale & Coffee Morning with the Head – Thursday 3rd DecemberJust to remind you that you are all welcome to attend the Coffee Morning on Thursday 3rd at 9.00am in the primary dining hall. As yet we haven’t received many used uniform items to sell, so please do get any items to Ms Chaggar as soon as possible.

Ms Chaggar has had one parent offer to help with the used uniform. If you are interested in helping out please let her know as soon as possible.

Exciting Learning

As you will know from the information posted in the newsletter by Ms Macfarlane a few weeks ago, the school was closed for a training day whereby staff were given the opportunity to use

the day in honour of the memory of one of the secondary students, Ahmed Al-Khafiji, who died suddenly and unexpectedly in July. It was an opportunity for you to spend the day with your child and think about an out-of- the-ordinary experience that you could share. Some children have excitedly shared their experiences with me this week; some children visited museums, one visited a pottery painting café. The children have been busy writing or drawing about their day, some of which will be on display in the secondary school.

Composer of the FortnightWe are currently listening to and learning about Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky as our Composer of the Fortnight. As a suggested activity to support at home, you could gather some facts about Tchaikovsky in preparation for the coming weeks. You can hear some of his music on the following youtube links.

As part of the work we are doing on British values, the children voted “1 person, 1 vote” using a ballot box for whom they would like to be the Prime Minister for the day. Maya Ahmed was the winner. Her first duty was to decide what resource that they could have on the bug rug. She picked Lego. If there were any disagreements Maya was called upon to mediate.

Show & Tell in Reception Every week children are invited to

talk to the class about something of great importance to them. Once the

child has shared their presentation, the rest of the class have the

opportunity to ask the presenter questions. This is a great activity to help develop the children’s listening

and attention skills as well as their confidence to stand up in front of

their peers to talk about themselves.

Show & Tell in Reception

Y1 Design and TechnologyThis week Year 1 have been looking at various building structures very closely and then creating their own by first developing their designs and then choosing the best materials to construct their building.

Christmas Themed Non Uniform Day on Friday 11th NovemberOn Friday 11th of December we will have a non-uniform day to fundraise for Save the Children. Students will be invited to wear a Christmas jumper as part of their non-school uniform. Christmas colours of green, red, gold and white are encouraged!

Students can choose to wear trousers, jeans, leggings or skirts but their outfit cannot be revealing and students are not permitted to wear any jewellery beyond that which is permitted as part of their day to day uniform.

Students will need to bring £1 by Monday 7th December in order to be permitted to wear non uniform on the 11th of December. Ms Alibhai-Watson

Primary Winter ConcertThe Primary Winter Concert will take place on Friday 4th December AND Monday 7th December to allow parents of Reception students and of Year 1 students to attend.

Parents/carers of students in Reception classes will be able to watch the performance on Friday 4th December at 9am in the main hall.

Parents/carers of students in Year 1 classes will be able to watch the performance on Monday 7th December at 9am in the main hall.

All Primary students will be performing on both dates, supported by their teachers and Year 9 Music Mentors from INA Secondary.

Letters will be sent home next week along with two tickets per child attached. Tickets are free. If you are unable to attend or do not need both tickets, please hand them back into the reception office so that they could be reallocated to a family that may want more.

We need more Work Experience placements!

Do you work in a career that would interest our students? If so please contact us: info@

isaacnewtonacademy.orgYear 10 students will complete a work experience placement from Monday 20th June 2016 – Friday 24th June 2016 and we need your help! If you feel you can offer a placement please read the placement guide below and contact Mr Crowther-Green by email: info@isaacnewtonacademy.org with the title Work Experience. Please provide a work address, brief details of the type of work, potential duties and include a contact name, telephone number and email. Placement guide• Employers must have a Health and Safety policy and Public

Liability Insurance• Placements should be easily reachable from INA by public

transport• Students should not be working in a confined space with a single

employer (safeguarding reasons)• Employers offering placements will need to complete an

agreement and send details of dress, days, times, tasks and any specific information

• Students will complete a project which they will work through during their placement

We welcome friends and family of INA students to offer placements to INA students. We want students to broaden their horizons and we want students to be completing a work experience that they could not easily organise themselves. in assembly, one in recognition of a child demonstrating our BRIDGES habit of the week, and the other in recognition of a pupil’s academic effort throughout the week.

Regular attendance is a crucial factor in students’ educational development and ability to achieve their full potential.

At Isaac Newton Academy every student is set the target of 100% attendance.

The class with the highest attendance at the end of every week is awarded the attendance trophy during Friday’s Award & Recognition assembly.

Congratulations to Fitzgerald class, who are the winners for this week! The attendance figures are extremely low this week; I hope to see everyone fit and well and back to school next week. National average attendance for primary schools is 96.1%.

It is important that the children attend school every day and do not miss any learning. Thank you for your support in ensuring your child is at school every day. We always strive for 100%.

BRIDGES are habits of mind or learning characteristics that develop a pupil's character and learning power and enable him/her to grow into a well-rounded individual and resilient learner.

There are seven BRIDGES habits that we will be working on, which will rotate on a weekly cycle throughout the year. The BRIDGES habit of the week will always be introduced at the beginning of the week during the Monday assembly and reinforced throughout the week across the curriculum. Each class teacher will award a certificate to a pupil that they feel has demonstrated the BRIDGES focus for the week.

Each week we will update you on the BRIDGES habit that will be introduced in the coming week and offer some top tips on how to reinforce the habit at home too. Please also refer to the Primary BRIDGES wheel above
