Since its inception in 2012, the committees have continuously assisted the Registrar of Voters in determining how to most effectively provide language election materials and information to increase the participation of limited English speaking voters in the democratic electoral process. About the Language Advisory Committees Language Advisory Committees Since the establishment of the Language Advisory Committees in 2012, the Registrar of Voters of Alameda County has had the continued support of community based organizations in the area. e committee meets regularly to develop methods and programs to increase voter participation amongst the Chinese, Spanish, Tagalog, and Vietnamese speaking communities. All individuals or organizations are invited to send representatives to attend our meetings or to become members of the advisory committee. When the Registrar of Voters staff awarded Vivian Nathanson with the “Certificate of Recognition,” she was ecstatic and surprised that she had served a total of 30 elections. Vivian served in her first election on November 3, 1998 General Election. She enjoys being part of the community and would love to showcase her award during the upcoming election to motivate other Poll Workers to continue volunteering their time. She also had the opportunity to alongside her family at the same polling precinct. The most noteworthy experience was at the closing of the polling place on November 2012 Election, when the media announced result of the Presidential race. The energy and excitement was like nothing she had ever experienced. Although Election Day working hours are long, the ability to assist and work alongside in her community is rewarding. Alexis would like to encourage more people to sign up to be a Poll Worker and get involved!
