BIBLE BOWL REPORT

Congrats again to the Bible Bowlers for an outstanding season and for being such great representatives of Christ as you trav-eled throughout the year. We are so proud of your year’s accomplishments and of course, your National’s successes—1st place in their pod, 15th place in the double elimi-nation tourney, and for Sarah Zmierski achieving top 12 in the quoting bee. The 2012-2013 season will be kicking off after school on September 5th. All 6th-12th grad-ers are welcome to join the group as they learn the powerful book of Acts. Bible Bowl is an amazing program that can give you the opportunity to travel, develop lifelong friendships, and create great study habits. But, more importantly, your heart and mind will be filled with scripture that God will use to mold, shape and direct entire life. You’re thinking, “Wow, when you put it that way—where do I sign up?!” See Brad or Karen Speirs and they’ll give you all the necessary info!

Beginner Bible Bowl

All 3rd-5th graders, be watching for the start of this valuable scripture learning program coming later in the fall!! Any questions, see Sharron Hartwick or Brad Speirs.

Fantasy Football Are you ready for some FOOTBALL?!?! You’re in luck as Fantasy Football will be kicking off with the draft on August 26th! Anyone 7th grade and up, come join us for a pizza lunch after church. We can have up to 16 teams—so mark your calendars and SCORE with this awesome fellowship op-portunity!

JANELLE Janelle is currently on vacation. June and July are the busiest months for Janelle as an educa-tor. She is an education and English consultant which means trainer and mentor in all things edu-cation and English related. The school graduated their first class of Immersion students and they all passed the tough government tests and moved on to junior high. Janelle was very happy! Janelle always keeps in mind what her high goal is in being where she is.

MATT & SHELBY HONIG (Pioneer Bible Translators) Greetings from the Arctic! We’re in a slow spell translation right now, since all three of our translators are out visiting their families in their home villages, and our tester is with a group of visiting missnries in a village as well. Gives us a chance to get some other important and necessary things done for a bit like fix the van, sell our land here, send out invitations for other long-term missnries who are coming to work primarily with the Nnts and Khnty people groups, clean out our office to make room for the container load of stuff that they sent ahead of themselves for their move up here, help meet the container, get it across the river and unload it, track down local permissions for another couple that is on the train on their way here, get our own passports back after having gotten them registered on our new visas, etc. Amazing how much of our work here is logistical in addition to the day-in and day-out work of translation. I'm still amazed at how much we're all able to do here considering it's a closed region. Truly blessed. In addition to all this, I wanted to ask pr@yer for a trip that Kevin and I are making this Wednesday down river (north) to a fishing village along with our Kh friend in his boat. We're going to 1. feed the mosquitoes, and 2. meet a Kh woman who had agreed to work on an adaptation of our Luke text into the northern dialect. Having contacted her through a friend it appears that she is reconsidering because of the amount of work she thinks that adaptation would take, but we are pretty sure she thinks she will need to essentially re-translate it. If we can show her more directly how this works we might still be able to get her valuable help in this, and open Luke up to a whole new audience. Please pr@y that she is receptive; she is a believer, and she has a large family and network that would also benefit from the work and be able to participate in it. We do have other candidates for the adaptation, but from our perspective she seems the best fit. Thanks! Hard to believe we only have four months left here. Kevin and I are having some good discussions about the best way to transition the workload fully to him. We've managed to get quite an active crew going, and he's going to have his hands full, but we are so thankful to know that we've been used to start something here that has a real chance to build the foundation for faith that we've pr@yed for all along for the Kh people. Please pr@y for all these transitions, and for those who G.d has brought along to fill other needed roles for these people who need to know Him.

Have a great, and blessed day, Matt PS: - For anyone who's interested, I have some land to sell you in Siberia. No joke! :-) (Received this e-mail update a couple days later): OK, so around 11:30pm the night before we were supposed to leave for our trip to the village I got a call from our Kh friend saying they weren't ready to receive us the next day. They are "too busy," which most likely means actually that the issues I mentioned in my last e-mail have become a problem even before we get started. At the very least I am hoping to still meet up so as to explain things and peaceably agree not to work together instead of leaving something negative behind. If given the chance to explain things could also still work out, so please continue to pr@y for this situation. We're going to try to contact her again in a couple weeks to see if she'll agree to meet. Thanks! Matt WOODBURN CHRISTIAN CHILDREN’S HOME Woodburn has four new members—John (10), Kim (11), Meagan (13), and Payton (17) all have joined the Angel House. It is so great that these kids have a Christian home to live in. Lee also writes, “Recently, we’ve had a number of work groups help us with projects at WCCH. In the middle of all the heat, we had a work group come down from the Novesta Church of Christ in Cass City, Michigan to roof our pantry building. Many thanks to everyone who makes it possible to perform the ministry of the Woodburn Christian Children’s Home. POSITIVE ALTERNATIVES: FYI - The total received from Novesta in the Baby Bottle Boomerang was $982.54.
