PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE Recently the school ran a merit selection process to fill a vacant classroom teacher position. The position was advertised through the Department of Education’s weekly Job Feed and we received a large number of applications. Following a rigorous cull of the applications some quality candidates were invited to interview. The successful applicant was Miss Meaghan Plevey who has been a temporary teacher at the school over the last 5 years. Miss Plevey is a highly competent teacher who has contributed greatly to extra curricular activities in the school. It is a pleasure to have her as a permanent teacher at the school and I am sure the whole school community will congratulate her on this appointment. The annual Strathfield Principals Network Awards were held on 21 November and Mrs Angela Paolino was the very worthy recipient of the Outstanding Achievement Award. Mrs Paolino, in her role as an EAL/D teacher, has always shown a strong focus on achieving the best outcomes for the students who are developing their English language skills. She has consistently demonstrated a high level of care and commitment to all the students and staff at Croydon Public School over a number of years. Congratulations to Mrs Paolino. Just a reminder that a building project information session will be held on Wednesday 12 December at 6.30pm in the staff room. This is an opportunity to find out the latest information regarding the project and representatives from the project

management company, MACE, and Schools NSW Infrastructure will be presenting. The last P&C meeting for the year will follow the building project information session. At the meeting there will be a vote to decide the design of our new school polo shirt. If you are interested in having a say on the design it is important to be at this meeting. A final decision must be made and samples of the two designs will be available to view. Ms Lucantonio

PBL ASSEMBLY AWARDS This week’s assemblies will be the final presentation of PBL awards for 2018. 3-6 PBL Awards will be given to students on Monday 3 December in the Week 6, Term 4 Assembly.

K-2 PBL Awards will be given to students on Tuesday 4 December in the Week 6, Term 4 Assembly.

PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF TIME FOR K-2 ASSEMBLY THIS WEEK – IT WILL BE HELD AT 9:15AM.

POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR FOR LEARNING The Positive Behaviour for Learning focus for last week and this week is being RESILIENT in the office/sick bay and in the playground. Ask your child how they will be safe at school this week.

For more information about Positive Behaviour for Learning and our award system please see the school website. On our PBL site you will find a matrix that you can use at home to reinforce the school expectations.

MUSICA VIVA On Tuesday 27 November, students were treated to an extraordinary musical performance by the group, DaVinci’s Apprentice. The show was incredibly engaging and introduced students to some unique Renaissance instruments. You can find a synopsis and some photos of the show below. “Roberta, a talented girl living in 16th century Italy, dreams of becoming an apprentice to the greatest inventor of all, Leonardo da Vinci. Along the way, she meets a trio of musicians equipped with the weird and wonderful instruments of their time. With music by young Australian composer, Sally Greenaway, and script by writers Catherine Prosser and Paul Bissett, Da Vinci’s Apprentice is an original musical journey of discovery where students are challenged to expect the unexpected!”

SOFTBALL SUPERSTARS On Friday 30 November, our senior boys and girls softball teams played hard-fought matches against Summer Hill PS at Majors Bay Reserve, Concord. Both the girls and boys teams were in knockout games with a place in the grand final on the line. With superb batting and fielding efforts from both teams, CPS came away victorious and now prepare for the grand final games on Friday 7 December. Congratulations to our softballers and we wish them good luck for Friday’s games.

SPEECH PATHOLOGY PROGRAM See the end of this newsletter for a handy tip from our Croydon Public School speech therapist, Elizabeth Ware. This tip gives you some great ideas about how to help your child develop and improve their writing skills and help them with their descriptive language.

Please be aware that some student accounts are sitting in credit (Fees in Advance). Last term, a letter was sent home via students advising parents/carers of the amounts in credit. We asked that those parents/carers contact the office regarding their statements. As yet we have not heard from anyone so therefore we will be allocating any credit to outstanding activities (not including voluntary fees unless advised to do so). If there are no outstanding fees and you are in credit please do not pay for any future activities, however you will need to sign future permission notes which should then be placed in the fees box outside the office. The office staff will advise you of any credit used to reconcile outstanding payments. If you have any questions regarding accounts in credit please contact the office staff as soon as possible.

EPI-PENS AND MEDICAL UPDATE If your child carries a personal Epi-Pen, please check the expiry date to ensure the Epi-Pen is current. If your child’s medical needs have changed, please provide written documentation to the front office as soon as possible. VOLUNTEERING AT SCHOOL Teachers greatly appreciate and highly value parent helpers in the classroom. Parent volunteering helps aid the smooth running of various programs in the classrooms. If you are interested in helping out in your child’s classroom please contact your child’s teacher.

It is a now a requirement of the Department of Education that you complete a Declaration for Volunteers and Non Child Related Contractors prior to coming to help. These declarations are available at the front office, toward the end of this newsletter and on our website. After filling out the declaration, you will need to submit 100 points of ID to the office. If you have a current Working With Children Check for Volunteers you will not need to fill out a declaration form.

Croydon Public Market – Wrap up & Thanks Now that the organising committee has had a minute to take a breath, we would like to say a huge thank you to all of you who volunteered on a stall or even just helped out when you weren’t even rostered on or helped set-up and pack up. Thank you to everyone who came and bought lunch or did some shopping or bought a rides tickets, you have all helped make this a great event and raise money for our school. We want to say thank you to everyone (parents, staff and kids) who came and helped make this event happen. So many people helped in so many ways, from running a stall, working on a stall, to emptying bins, to just turning up and buying things. Without everyone’s help this wouldn’t have been such a successful day. We also want to say thank you to the many local companies who helped with sponsorship of the Market event or provided us a service at very low cost, or helped us promote the Market. It is so good to have so many good local companies who support our community. Thank them next time you see them; Richard Matthews Real Estate, Croydon Tyre & Auto Service Centre, Kennards Hire Burwood, Urban Protection Group, Helen O’Grady Drama Academy. Thanks to Burwood Girls and Ashfield Boys High Schools for yet again allowing us to hang our banner on their fences. Thank you to all the Year 6 kids and Miss Sutton for running the Crazy Hair stall. Thank you to the parents who came up with new ideas of stalls to run, like the Craft Stall and the Plant & Fruit & Veg Box Stall. Thank you for all your time and effort. Depending on how things are going with the building works we are unsure at this point if there will be a market next year, so it might be a few years before we do it all again.

2018 CPS Read-a-thon Canteen Vouchers If your child earned a canteen voucher in the read-a-thon earlier this year, please note that they need to use it before the end of term. These vouchers will not be valid next year. New Committee Members We are on the look out for new committee members to join us and help with planning and running the Social and Fundraising events for our school. If you are interested or have some ideas you’d like to share and run with, please get in touch. Our next committee meeting is this Tuesday night. Call Jackie on 0438177700 or email [email protected]

UNIFORM SHOP Market Day Report The uniform shop stall was a great success on the day. Thank you to everyone involved. What a fantastic method of raising funds for our school and providing a great service to the school community. This was a first for the uniform shop and was very well received. We hope it can continue in the future. We sold lots of second hand items!!! We met quite a few of our 2019 Kindergarten children and their families, who came to try on their uniforms, so our volunteers will be packing some large orders over the next few weeks. Our aim was to provide an extra opportunity for those families that find it difficult to get to the shop during trading hours. Allowing our new kindergarten children to try on their school uniforms, so parents can then order online knowing they have chosen the correct sizes, Our year 4 students could try on their senior uniform for next year, then order on line. Many others needed a spare jacket, shirt, etc. from our wide selection of second hand items. The Uniform Shop has traditionally extended their hours in the last two weeks of the year and the first two weeks of the next year. Dates for your Diary Last day of trading 2018: Thursday 13th December.
