The Premiers Reading Challenge is a literacy engagement program that was introduced by the Premier in 2004 to encourage students to read more books and develop a love of reading and also to improve literacy levels. For students in the younger year levels the Challenge is about reading books with parents and enjoying that time together and developing a love of different authors, and genres. For students from Year 3 and above the challenge for them is about extending reading and delving deeper into different styles of writing. Reception to Year 7 need to read 8 of these books from the Challenge booklists, available on the Premiers Reading Challenge website, or clearly marked with a sticker in the school Resource Centre and 4 of their own choice. The Challenge is to read 12 books in total and finishes on Friday 6 September. Student reading records are available from your child’s teacher, or from the Resource Centre. Students fill in their student reading records as they read their books, gets them signed off as they go and hand the form in to their teacher or at the Resource Centre. At Magill School our students are extremely keen on reading and a point of interest is that 45,317 books were borrowed out from the Resource Centre last year. Good luck with your reading and enjoy the Challenge!

Magill School Snap Shot

Over the Holiday Break there has been some great action taking place around our school. Break

out learning spaces are bringing the learning environment outside the classroom. The photos

above demonstrate only some of the great spaces being developed in the Penfold, Murray and

Ferguson buildings.

The pictures below show the fantastic effort that has been done over the break to refresh the

Ferguson toilets. The doors have been painted a new colour and positive and inspiring quotes

have been written on the toilet doors, mirrors and walls. A huge thank you is extended to Lucy

Cirocco for her artistic quotes, Gervase and Jess Mallen for painting the doors and Chris Cools for

sanding.

Hopefully these areas will bring a smile to students and offer them a space for quiet reflection.
