NAPLAN RESULTS
If your child is in Year 3, 5 or 7 you will have received your NAPLAN results this week.
As parents and carers we know it is vitally important that children develop key skills such as literacy
and numeracy to help them through school, work and life.
By itself NAPLAN does not improve the quality of education but it gives us a national snapshot of how
our children are doing comparatively in Literacy and Numeracy.
You son or daughter’s results will be reported against six levels of achievement. Your child’s results are
indicated by a black dot and a black triangle shows the national average for children in that year level.
As you read the NAPLAN report we would like you to keep the following in mind:
Keep the results in context with every other piece of information you already have about your
child’s academic performance
Use the information to celebrate strengths and identify areas of improvement but remember
that it is only a glimpse into your child’s learning on one part of one day. A variety of factors can
affect how your child does in any test including motivation, mood and physical wellbeing.
While Literacy and Numeracy are important they are part of a well-rounded education and the
pursuits of sport, art, music are also crucial in developing informed , happy children who are
confident in their own abilities
Discuss the results with your child in a supportive, non-emotional way – we do not recommend
attaching rewards or punishments to the results
Observing how your child copes with the results can give you information about their
self-concept as a learner – do they have an overly pessimistic view of their results or put too
much pressure on themselves?
The report does not show which questions children got wrong or even whether they answered
all of the questions (they may have run out of time) If you would like to know more, your class
teacher is the first step in providing detailed information and guidance.
As you read your child’s NAPLAN report remember that it is one small part of a much bigger picture in
the measurement of student success in reaching their potential as learners.

Performed by M2 and M3
On the 21st of August M2 and M3 performed a spectacular play called Grab That Gold. The play was based on the every day life of the
people on the Ballarat Goldfields. It helped us learn more about the HASS unit we were working on in Term 2 and 3. It was an amazing
opportunity to be able to dress up like the people in 1854. On the night of our performance, most of us felt quite nervous, though really
excited but we all felt really proud of what we did.
The Instrumental Concert was a resounding success and a fantastic night to showcase the talents and skills of all the Magill School student musicians.
Comments from the night included: Claire: It was a fun night!
Yang Yang: The IM concert was a good experience.
Aiden: I felt proud of all the performers on the night.
Cindy: It was an enjoyable experience .
Vincent: This was my second time performing in the IM concert and I felt much more relaxed and confident. I would highly recommend other students to learn an instrument to be able to perform in front of friends and family.
Natasya: This was my first experience in performing in front of such a large crowds but I felt confident and I had a fantastic time.
Devanshee: The IM concert was both amazing and a privileged experience to be a part of here at Magill School
Sylvia: The concert was great seeing how the audience responded to what we played. I felt excited and nervous on the night.
Harneh: The concert was fun and it was amazing seeing how everyone who practiced and rehearsed so hard, did so well on the night.
Mihir: I felt excited and proud to perform in front of my family.

The position of OSHC Director has been advertised through
SEEK. Since the previous Director resigned at the end of 2016
Monica has been in an Acting Position. We will now fill the role
permanently.
Applications are due by Friday 19th October.
What a busy term it has been! I have been so thankful to be able to go on many different excursions and overnight trips with classes this term. Attending various Zoo Snoozes, excursions to choir events or SAPSASA events has been a great way for me to continue to support our students in an extra-curricular way and see them give their best efforts to something outside the classroom. Next term is sure to be busy but I hope that is also a great way to finish off the school year. One thing we are looking to start up again next term is a “parents connect” time. On the first Tuesday of the month, we will have tea and coffee for parents available from 8:30am. If you have any suggestions about something you would like to see at these connect groups, then please do not hesitate to contact me. This is something we hope to build on and continue into next year as well. If you are looking for something to do these holidays, I encourage you to check out the Campbelltown Council website. They have a number of interesting programs running these holidays from learning how to ride a bike and become a safer rider, STEM scav-enger hunts, gardening programs and stop animation workshops. If you want to know more about when these events are on, go to their website; http://www.campbelltown.sa.gov.au/page.aspx?u=2248 I look forward to seeing many of your next term, and enjoy your holiday break!
