Well done to all involved in organising and running the swap meet each year.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT
July has been a fairly quiet month, with only a few
events to attend.
Our mid week run to the Long Track Pantry at
Jugiong was a great day, with beautiful weather,
good food and very friendly club members. After
eating and talking, Tim took us for a short run, up
into the hills overlooking Jugiong. What a great
view and the land looked fantastic after the rain .
It’s amazing how the river meanders around
Jugiong. John & Joan, Paul & Janet and myself
returned home along the back road following the
river. A little Muddy, but not bad considering the
rain. A great day with good company. How about
more of you try out one of our runs and enjoy the
club.
At the time of writing this report, the Wagga Swap
Meet & the Ford weekend hadn’t been on, hope
quite a few of our members attend. Don’t forget
the club run on Sunday 7th August, to the Junee
Farmers Market and Damper day with the Young
Club. Saturday 27th August is the Wattle Time
Parade, bring out your lovely old cars for all to see.
Don’t forget to check – COMING EVENTS – in the
Magazine each week.
Hope to see you at some of these outings.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT TAFE
The Club will again lease the Automotive Workshop at
the Cootamundra TAFE for our Wednesday night
work/gossip sessions.
The first night was on Wednesday, 13th July 2016,
from 6PM until 9PM, and will be continuing each
Wednesday (except for TAFE holidays) for the 18 weeks
of the 2nd semester.
Club members who would like to attend for the full 18
weeks of the Semester will be required to pay $100,
while casual attendance is $15 per night. These costs are
to cover the fee for the Workshop Lease.
To be part of the Wednesday night group, you do not
require a high level of mechanical knowledge as there
are qualified members in attendance who will give
guidance to help you to complete your project.

JOKES
A guy walks into a pub waving a pistol & yells
‘I have a .45 Colt with eight rounds in the clip
& one in the chamber. I want to know who has
been sleeping with my wife!’
A voice from the back of the room replies ‘you
don’t have enough amo’.
A widower in his mid-eighties walks into a
cocktail lounge. He is very well-dressed, hair
well-groomed, great looking suit, flower in his
lapel and smelling slightly of an expensive after
shave.
Seated at the bar is a classy looking lady in her
mid-seventies. The sharp old gentleman walks
over and sits alongside her, orders a drink,
takes a sip & slowly turns to the lady and says
"So, tell me..... do I come here often?"

CLUB HAPPENING & EVENTS
Debenham Motorbike Rally – 18-19
June
John Simpfendorfer travelled to Moss Vale
Caravan Park & was joined by other members of
the V.M.C.C who travelled from Sydney to take
part, including his son Paul who participated in his
first ‘Tiddlers Bike Rally’.
Rain was prominent on the weekend, including
during the trip down, where at one stage John had
to slow down to only 70 km/h. Luckily John had
organised a cabin (rather than camping) which
provided a dry sanctuary.
There was speculation whether a ride would take
place on the Saturday, but they all put on their big
boy pants & set off. They were treated with fog,
light & heavy rain for their efforts.
John with son Paul & his 1972 Suzuki A100.
A soup stop at Nepean Dam was a further reward,
where 53 bikes were counted. The second leg on
Saturday was 117 km’s, making their way to
Mittagong for a steak sandwich & hot cuppa.
By this stage John also had to renourish his steed
with some go go juice for the last 30km’s for the
day back to Moss Vale. After a well-earned hot tub,
dinner was at the local RSL where trophies were
also presented.
It must have been all too much on the Saturday
though, or John’s big Boy pants were still wet,
because he opted out of the Sunday ride.
Overall though, John reported a great well run
event & John & Paul are already drying out their
pants for next year’s event.

Film & Casserole Night – 25 June
The latest film night was a big hit, especially when
John Mackie ran a surprise "Q & A" break in
between videos. John Collins was the adjudicator
and questions were simple one word answer for a
one word question ie Q, "Henry" A, "Ford", Q,
"Fishermens Bend" A, "Holden Plant" etc
Ken Harrison was declared the eventual winner
and as such will have to make up the next Q & A.
Even though Ken had an advantage, being a
mechanic, Robyn Snape and Karen McMinn gave
him a run for his money and answered a lot of
questions most blokes couldn't answer,
Yummy food was supplied by members who were
asked to make a casserole and there were plenty of
delicious varieties.
The next film night will probably be a Pizza night
with the club supplying a variety of Pizzas. Keep an
eye out in the Hoota for the date.

Club Run to Young Farmers Market –
2nd
July
On a rather cold Saturday morning, a few members
made their way to the Young Farmers Market. The
market was a little small, but we heard that one of
the main organisers had taken ill & it will be back
better on her return & with future warmer weather.
5
Attending were:
Barry & Lynn Gavin (with Ethan) – Modern
Ted & Joan Strachan – Austin
Mal & Linley Chaplin – Jaguar XJ12
John Rickets – Austin Healy
Kevin White – Modern
Graham Angel - Modern
After inspecting the markets, we took up Kevin
White’s invitation for a cuppa at his place &
inspected his shed and what he called the ‘junk
room’. Thanks for the hospitality Kevin.
Kevin showing of all his goodies in his ‘Junk Room.
A few members then checked out the Bluestill
Distillary for a light lunch. Graham & Ted also tried
some of their new liquors, Graham taking a bottle
home for Ron.

Would You Like a DMC-12?
John DeLorean’s car company only lasted from
1981-83 & made around 9000 DMC-12’s before
production halted in late 1983. There are believed
to be around 6500 DMC-12’s still in existence.
Many know of its unique features, including gull-
wing doors, fibreglass chassis & underbody, brushed
stainless steel body & its iconic movie appearance.
An American company acquired the rights to the
company name, DMC logo & purchased a vast
inventory in 1997. They have been selling OEM
parts since.
6
They have, however, recently announced they
will start producing new DMC-12’s in 2017,
projected to cost around $100000.
The cars will be built with mainly NOS parts
(claims they have enough parts to make around
500 cars) plus new parts where required. This will
include the engine, as the old engine will not meet
emission requirements. A projected engine is a 3.7
litre V6 Nissan (apparently too much modification
required to fit a V8)
Who wants to sign up for one?

Farina Styled the New Nash (Motor
Manual 1 July 1955)
Some interesting points on the 1955 Nash Super
Statesman from a report in the July 1 1955 issue of
Motor Manual:
New body lines & wrap around windscreen,
New headlights & overdrive gearbox
Spare wheel accommodated on the floor of the
boot (for Australia)
American tubeless tyres (as standard equipment)
Six-cylinder side valve engine with a new twin
choke carburetter, set directly in the cylinder
head (110 bhp)
Single straight pipe exhaust manifold, set flush
against the head
The reporter though was quite taken with the
‘luxurious interior’:
Inside, the Nash really comes into its own.
Divided bench seats are used in the front (they
swing back, giving double-bed comfort for tourists)
and a particularly wide bench seat at the rear.
All controls are well placed, with the three-speed
and overdrive gearbox control on the steering
column.
Performance should be in order of about 85 mph,
with matching acceleration. A feature of the large
boot is excellent placement of the jack and
auxiliary tools.

SCROUNGED STUFF
John Milnes has recently had a complete
rebuild on the engine of his 4 Runner.
Apparently on the first start-up it was stated to
sound like ‘a little boy was inside with a
hammer’. Apparently though the tapping noise
was due to the timing being just 1 tooth out.
Apparently a topic of discussion at one of the
recent TAFE nights was that NRMA Veteran,
Vintage & Classic insurance does not cover your
vehicle unless it is a club run (an issue if on the
log book trial). On recently transferring a
vehicle from full rego to club rego, I quizzed
NRMA & there is no problem. They have
recently changed their policy to cover club runs
plus 10 days per month for recreational use. As
long as you use your vehicle inside these & the
conditional registration guidelines you will be
fine.
Mercury Edsel & Lincoln Rally begins the week
of 12 September & will visit Coota during the
week
84 year old Charlie McCarron began collecting
Holden’s in 1970. He started with a mint
48/215 that he paid $575 for. He now has
more than 60 cars that he keeps in his former
Holden dealership in Canowindra, near Cowra.
His collection will go under the hammer on the
1st & 2
nd of October & is believed to be worth
more than $1.5 million. The 48/215 is expected
to fetch more than $300,000.
The auction will include 60+ cars (not just
Holden’s), dealership signage, NOS spares,
spare parts, manuals and numerous sundries.
Check out the listing online. Just google ‘Burns
& Co Canowindra’.

OUT & ABOUT
Some Photo’s courtesy of the Riverina Volkswagen Club showing some of our much loved CAMC members. In their recent edition of
‘Volkstalk’ I counted John in 11 photo’s. Poor Joan only made it in 6 times. The second photo seems to show John straining to ensure
he is in this picture.
TOP LEFT: John Simpfendorfer & progress with the Douglas - turning the motor over with an electric drill. John even emailed this
picture to me. Who said you can’t teach an old dog new tricks. Nothing will stop him submitting material for the magazine now.
TOP RIGHT: Another treasure that was in Kevin Whites ‘Junk Room’
On a recent weekend away in Bowral, the Angel family witnessed the above cars in the main street. Also witnessed (all within 5
minutes) what appeared to be a new Porsche Boxter Spyder & a Ferrari. The DeLorean even had a Flux Capacitor, hoverboard & sports
almanac in the front seat (the movie buffs will know what this is all about).
VW Beetle owners
must have a sense of
humour (some may
say you have to in
order to buy a
Beetle). These
stickers were on the
above VW at Bowral.
