P-12 Magic!

One of the advantages for staff working in a P-12 school is the opportunity to work with young people between the ages of five and eighteen. In last week’s newsletter I wrote about the wonderful VCE Dinner held on the 15th of November. Last Thursday morning I was extremely lucky to be part of the Teddy Bears” Picnic with the Prep and year five and six students. The students were all very excited about bringing their favourite teddy or soft toy along and having some party food. We shared a song or two and had a fun time singing “If you’re a Meerkat and you know it, look around!” It is that special time of year where the end of year celebrations and camps are beginning and the students are celebrating their achievements for the year and getting excited about being in a new year level next year.

I look forward to ‘catching up’ with you at one of the celebratory events over the coming weeks starting with the Rainbow P-12 Music Students’ Annual Concert this Friday afternoon in the school hall.

Progress Update!

The air-conditioning contractors have been making excellent progress with the installation of new air conditioning in the hall. I still expect that the air conditioning for the hall will be fully operational for Presentation Night on Tuesday the 13th of December.

The footings have been installed for the shade area, adjacent to the Multipurpose Building. The shade area is expected to be fully completed prior to the start of the 2017 school year.

We are waiting on an alternative price for the reinstatement of the hall canteen before a decision is made regarding the completion of this project.

The School Pride funding allocated to the original high school building on Albert Street is expected to commence in term 1 2017.

Pupil Free Days

Tuesday the 20th of December is the final pupil free day for 2016.

In 2017 Monday the 30th and Tuesday the 31st of January are both pupil free days with the remaining 2 days to be confirmed once professional learning sessions are finalised.

ROBOT NEWS Wednesday we had a representative from Aldebaran come to our school to teach some tips and tricks about caring for, and using our NAO Robot. Jonathan spoke to us about the potential that our robot has, and all the different things that out robot is capable of doing. The part that stood out to me the most was the way that NAO Robots are used all around the world to teach children with autism, and also how they are used in hospitals including the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne, to complete rehabilitation programs with children. I thought the session with Jonathan helped me to gain a better understanding of how our robot works, and what it is capable of doing. I am very excited to see what opportunities and skills our robot will provide to our students, and how it will be used throughout the school. I believe we are very privileged to have our very own NAO Robot at this school, and it will be a very valuable learning source in the future.—Mikayla Keller The arrival of our Nao robot to Rainbow P-12 College named Tanoshi (Gertrude-Bruno) is both an exciting time and iinnovative time for our school. Tanoshi is an amazing opportunity for all students and teachers in our school. The robot will allow our school to be a part of the technological revolution. The robot has many useful benefits for our school some include allowing student to have hands on coding experiences , Tasnoshi can speak many languages including German , can be programed to dance and is able to have conversations with students. This is very important for our school as our school takes the step in becoming a technological friendly school.—Kimberley Roll On Wednesday I learnt how to program our NAO robot. It was a new experience that I found fun as well as interesting. It was awesome learning how to talk to it as well as getting it to say stuff. I also got to see it dab, which was awesome! Overall it was an incredible experience. I hope I get to learn more about programming it. —Kayla Norris-Burnett
