I think our second meeting went a bit smother than the first and I’m hopeful the rest of the bugs
will get worked out. I was very impressed with Shelley Swanland’s beautiful Cathedral
Windows Quilts. I have seen one of the projects they worked on and it is fascinating. As some
of you know I am hoping to move soon so my life has been doubly busy, so if I have failed to
call anyone about something we may have discussed and I was suppose to get back to you let
me know. I hope all of you are staying cool in this very muggy weather. I’ve heard that the
Opportunity Quilt for 2012 is finished and we will be seeing it at the next meeting. Hope you
are all working on the row by row challenge for the September meeting. I’m still thinking-
thinking-thinking but I hope to get to it this month.
Stitch your stress away!
Wanda

Fat Quarter Floozies Bonny Tucker 233-6362
Facts from the Fat Quarter Floozies
Last month we had a pile of patriotic color for our
Independence Day festivities. We divided them up
into two bundles of Red, White, and Blue! And the
winners were: Diana Fink (we actually called her
name many times and finally had to pull out all the
rest of her names since she graciously refused to
win more than once) and we came up with another
winner: Donna Qualley. Congratulations to them
both.
Our theme for July is "Stripes"
Thanks, Bonny & Linda

We have someone who needs to drive to Long
Beach and there is a possibility of one more
ticket....CALL ME IMMEDIATELY if you know
anyone who wants to go to the show....951-780-
6744!!!
We will be leaving the Hemet pickup at the Target
Center on July 29 at 8:00 a.m., sharp. Everyone
leaving from Hemet, please be there by 7:45 a.m. so
we don't have to be looking for someone and keep
the other ladies in Menifee waiting. We plan to be
in Menifee at the Living Spaces Center by 8:15 a.m.
We will have water for everyone, but if you want
snacks we are having you bring your own this year.
You can also bring your own lunches if you do not
want to buy them in Long Beach, however, they
have several venues to buy food from.
We will be leaving Long Beach at 5:00 p.m. and
hope to be in Menifee and Hemet around 7:00 p.m.
or sooner.
Bring your money and a smile and we will have a
great time in Long Beach. See you on the bus,
Phyllis Hottman.

Featured Quilter Phyllis Hottman
Phyllis Hottman was our Featured Quilter for the
month of June. Phyllis began her quilting career in
2002 when she joined the guild. She had been
sewing, doing cross stitch and embroidery from
early childhood. Her “launch” into quilting was on
a guild cruise where she made an Irish chain quilt.
She said she sewed night and day to complete the
top, pinning every seam of the 1 1/2 inch squares.
She was so worried that the seams would not
match! What a cruise!
Phyllis who has lived in Riverside since 1964 is a
faithful member of the guild. She has held the
offices of President, treasurer, and along with her
sidekick, Sue Fowler, has been in charge of the
venders at the quilt show for six years. This year
she is also in charge of the bus trips for the guild.
She became an Honorary Member in 2006.
Phyllis’s quilt “Azalea Trails” was a mystery
challenge in 2003. She found the material for her
lovely quilt in the town of Siloam Springs,
Arkansas. I asked “where in the world is Siloam
Springs” and she told me it is on the Oklahoma-
Arkansas border. One side of the street is
Oklahoma and the other Arkansas. Thank you,
Phyllis, for sharing you beautiful quilt with the
guild.

Home Machine Quilt Show Diane Best 471-2757
What! A quiltaholic! Me! Diane Best! If the
definition of a quiltaholic is someone who just
cannot pass up a quilt show or a quilt shop, then I'm
guilty.
My husband and I, early in May, made the trek to
Salt Lake City to HMQS otherwise known as the
Home Machine Quilt Show. Wow, what a treat.
The show was held in the South Towne Convention
Center in Sandy, Utah, just south of Salt Lake. The
aisles were super wide and just perfect for a gaggle
of fabric shoppers, including me. There were 350
plus quilts on display from all over the world hung
around three sides with all of the vendors in the
middle. The Best of Show was won by a long arm
quilter who drew only with thread, no appliqué, no
piecing, no painting. It was a gorgeous depiction of
life in Japan.
There were so many unfamiliar vendors to discover
and buy from. I came home with paints (which I
love), many new fabrics and even some gismos.
The sewing machines, both large and small, were
everywhere and since there were such large spaces
the machine companies could really spread out.
I got to meet and take classes from some of my
favorite designers and even my husband took a class
in machine maintenance.
Oh, heaven, heaven. I may have to go back again.
