Our P&C Annual General Meeting will be held tomorrow night, Wednesday, 11th March in the Meeting Room. All parents are welcome to attend. Westlawn PS P&C Life Members are formally invited to attend. Tea, coffee and light refreshments are offered before the meeting, and the AGM begins at 6pm. The AGM is followed by a monthly General Meeting. All positions including P&C executive or any sub-committees such as the Canteen Committee are voted on at the AGM. The P&C Executive is made up of wonderful representatives from our school community who, like all of us want the best for our students at Westlawn Public School. They support the school in a positive way and are a team of committed people who make every effort to work together to get the jobs done. The Executive members play an important role in encouraging other parents to become involved in the school and in making new members feel welcome. We are fortunate to have such a committed P&C who have contributed so much to the school with the support of all our wonderful families. One of our most special days of the year that we celebrate is Grandparents Day. We are inviting all of our grandparents to visit our school on Thursday 2nd April. At 10:30 grandparents are welcome to visit their grandchildren in their classrooms. As it is near the date of World Poetry Day we are asking grandparents to bring along a short poem they might enjoy sharing with their grandchild or their
grandchild’s class. We have had some very special poems written and read by grandparents in the past. You could bring a book to read with your grandchild if you prefer. At 10:55 grandparents are asked to bring a picnic lunch to share with their grandchildren in the playground. Make sure the children have decided on a meeting place if there are a few from the one family. Please remember students are to remain at school after the grandparents visit as our normal school day continues after lunch. Tea, coffee, sandwiches and cake can be purchased near the Canteen on the day. If you are able to help sell tea, coffee, etc on the day could you please leave your name at the school office. A reminder that school photos are being taken tomorrow. All children are photographed regardless of whether or not photos have been ordered. We ask that all children look their best in full uniform with no extra or out-of-uniform items. Children are asked to remove jackets and jumpers for the photos. It is a good idea to pack a brush and/or comb so children can tidy their hair before the photo. Dark green and/or yellow ribbons/headbands can be worn but no other coloured hair bands, ribbons etc. please. Black shoes with white socks for girls and grey socks for boys.

We have a very exciting opportunity for those who pay the School Contribution by the end of Term 2. If you pay by the end of June your name will go into the draw to win one of five Athlete’s Foot vouchers worth $100 each. Our School Contribution is set at $60 this year. This goes towards the cost of exercise books, photocopied workbooks, Homework Books, art and craft materials, paper, textbooks which are either used by individual students or used as a class resource, and supplied materials to students. We also pay for online access to Literacy resources to use on class computers, in the computer room and Interactive whiteboards to continue to improve our students’ opportunities. ‘Reading Eggs’ subscription also enables children to practise their Reading online on their home computer. The ‘Reading Eggs’ program is very popular and enables teachers to monitor students’ reading at home and place them on their appropriate reading level. As you would be well aware, the cost of resources which we regularly update is expensive so $60 per student is very reasonable. We have kept the rate low to enable it
to be cost effective for families. It is certainly value for money. It would be appreciated if you could please pay the School Contribution at the school office as soon as possible. Parents are also able to make a donation to the Library Fund which is tax deductible. If you are experiencing difficulty paying your School Contribution or have special circumstances, please contact the Principal or Mrs Taylor in the office. Please ensure you read the fortnightly Newsletter as there is regular updated information regarding not only our school but from the Department of Education for all public schools. Please read the updated health information in today’s newsletter regarding the COVID-19 (formerly referred to as Novel Coronavirus). Kind Regards,
Trish Ellis

WOW Cards! As a part of Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL), Westlawn has introduced WOW
cards. Students who are seen doing things ‘The Westlawn Way’ in the playground
including being responsible, being respectful and being safe, can receive a wow
card from any staff member in the school. The students write their names on the
cards and these are then placed in a container in each classroom. Each week two
cards are drawn out and the lucky students then receive an icy-pole from our
canteen. A big thankyou to our P&C who have donated the icy-poles this term. At
the end of each term, all WOW cards will be place in a very large box and two
students will receive a movie ticket voucher for the Saraton Theatre.
“The WOW cards make me feel like I’m getting noticed for my positive behaviour.”

Term 1 Week 7
Our P&C AGM will be held this Wednesday 11th March from 6:00pm in the
school meeting room. All welcome.
Canteen News
Our school canteen urgently needs more volunteers to work in the canteen. If
we are unable to get some more volunteers, there will be no alternative except
to close our canteen on the days where we do not have enough volunteers.
Being a volunteer is a wonderful way to support our school. Our canteen
operates from 8:30am to 2:00pm and full training will be provided and you will
be well supported by our canteen team. Even if you are able to provide
assistance for a couple of hours one day a month it would be fantastic. Duties
include taking orders, preparing food and serving students. If you are able to
assist please speak to Belinda Oxenbridge, our canteen manager.
