Charitable IRA Rollover Restored
Congress has extended through 2009 legislation that allows individuals ages 70 ½ and older to donate up to $100,000 from Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs) and Roth IRAs to public charities similar to Optimist Youth Homes & Family Services, without having to count the distributions as taxable income.
Since enactment in August 2006, the IRA Charitable Rollover gave older individuals the opportunity to give back to their favorite charitable organizations by eliminating the barrier in the tax law that had discouraged transfers from individual retirement accounts to charities. The giving incentive is particularly beneficial to those individuals who do not itemize their tax deductions and would not otherwise have received any tax benefit for their charitable contributions.
Will You Match this Gift?
You may be able to double, or even triple, the amount of your gift to Optimist at no additional cost to you. How?
Many corporations match the gifts their employees and often retirees, gift to tax exempt charitable organizations. These matching programs have been part of many corporate giving initiatives both to extend the reach of corporate giving and to encourage employees to be actively involved in supporting their communities.
To see if your employer has a matching gift program, contact the company’s human resources or benefits department. They can provide you with a Matching Gift form, part of which you fill out and the remaining part is filled by our office and returned to your company for the matching gift.
For more information about Charitable IRA Rollovers or Matching Gifts, contact our Director of Development, Jennifer D’Alvarez, at (323) 443-3023.
