Dear Parents and Caregivers,

On Wednesday, we had our long-awaited official opening of May-bur-ra Noorahs, otherwise known as our Reconciliation Garden. May-bur-ra Noorahs means many camps in the Bigumbul language, and it was wonderful to see such a warm response to the invitation to join us despite the biting wind and low temperatures. In my address to the gathering, I spoke of the sense of peace and calm I feel when I am in the garden or sitting in the yarning circle, and my hope for the future is that all members of our school community will enjoy May-bur-ra Noorahs for yarning and learning or connecting with nature, whatever camp you may be from. Thank you to everyone who turned the intention into a reality. Special thanks to Mrs Robyn Pearcey and Mr Matt Jackson who are the backbone of our RAP Committee.

We also celebrated NAIDOC Week on Wednesday and had many activities for our students to participate. Visitors included Trish from the PCYC who was running traditional Indigenous games with help from Clontarf and Mirri Dreamers students from Goondiwindi State High School. Many, many members of Community were able to join us and students enjoyed curry and johnny cakes, storytelling with Aunty Elaine , traditional painting, face painting, boomerang throwing and dancing. Definitely an early highlight for the term.

We are preparing our 2022 Transition to Prep program and are now taking enrolments. Our Prep Open Morning is set for Wednesday 4th August from 9am - 10:30am. During this time you will be able to walk through and observe our three classrooms in action and we will have additional staff on hand to answer any questions about Prep, enrolment, transition etc.

Christmas in July is on Saturday night. This is a great opportunity to support the Chaplaincy program in Goondiwindi. If you haven't booked, you will find information on Facebook. Next week we have our second round of Parent/Teacher Interviews and hope to see you there. We start new before-school procedures on Tuesday so watch for further information on that. PBL Reminder of the Week

This week, our students are being reminded about the importance of Teamwork, and ignoring distractions when we are working in teams.

By working together as a team, we can

• achieve something we cannot do alone

• complete something more quickly

• support those who are finding it difficult

Parent-Teacher Interviews

The bookings for our Semester Two Parent-Teacher Interviews are now open, using the link below. They will be held on Tuesday 27 July and Wednesday 28 July. Parent-Teacher interviews are an ideal opportunity to review the Semester One Report Card, and plan for further success throughout the rest of the year. If you have

difficulty with the SOBS system, please contact oiur office and we will make an interview booking for you.

School Opinion Survey

The annual suite of School Opinion Surveys will be conducted in Term 3 and will close on 30 July 2021. All families, school staff and students in target year levels (5

and 6) will be invited to participate. We encourage you to take this opportunity to have your say about what our school does well, and how we can improve.

An invitation to complete the Parent/Caregiver Survey will be emailed to one parent/caregiver per family in the week beginning 5 July. The invitation will be sent from the Department of Education, not the school, and it will have the subject line School Opinion Survey for parents and caregivers, 2021. Check your junk email folders if

you can’t find it. The survey can be completed as soon as the invitation is received and will take approximately 5 minutes using a computer, tablet or smart phone.

Parents/caregivers who do not have access to the internet at home are welcome to complete their survey online at the school. School computers/tablets will be

available at any time, and will be available during our Parent-Teacher interviews in the Hall.

Arriving at School

Parents are reminded that students should not be at school before 8:00am. If arriving between 8:00am and 8:30am, students must sit and talk quietly. There is no

play, and students should not be in other parts of the school such as outside classrooms or tuckshop. There will soon be a trial of new morning procedures - watch this

space !

CGEN Excursion

Last Friday, over 70 of our students joined with those from GSHS to attend the Creative Generations - State Schools On Stage performance at the Brisbane Convention Centre. Although it was a long day, the performances were outstanding, with everything ranging from orchestra, choir, hip-hop, massed drums and stage band. Thanks to the teachers and parents that accompanied students on the trip, and to our Music Sub Committee and RREAP for subsidising the tickets and bus travel.

Kind regards,

Lew Verney, Deputy Principal

P&C News

Grant funding that the P&C received from the Feed Appeal organi-sation to run a Fruit Program for the whole school in term 3 has started. We would like to acknowledge the Feed Appeal organisa-tion in making this happen. We would also like to thank Food-works Goondiwindi for supplying the fruit to support the program at a lower cost. Please support the local businesses that support our kids.

The P&C has many catering jobs at local events coming up this term. We are catering for the Will Day Album launch (evening 31/7), the Josh Arnold School Song Premiere (evening 12/8) and at Gourmet in Gundy (day 12/9). If you are available to help at any of these events for an hour or two, please phone/message Erica Clark on 0427580787.

We welcome our new Tuckshop Convenor, Mrs Paula Devantier, to our school. We look forward to working with Paula over the com-ing years.

Thus, it is with a sadness that we farewell Mrs Kerrie Storck after more than 15 years of service to our school as our Tuckshop Convenor. We would like to acknowledge all the hard work and commitment Kerrie has shown to ensure stu-dents and staff are fed and focused during the school day. We wish Kerrie all the best in her retirement.
