DAWSON SPRINGS INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS NEWSMAKERS OCTOBER 2013 Upcoming Events FALL BREAK Friday, Oct 4 - Monday, Oct 14 Soccer Districts The week of October 14 School Counts Breakfast Friday, Oct 18 Moonlight Madness Friday, Oct 25 National ACT Saturday, Oct 26 Red Ribbon Week Monday, Oct 28 - Friday, Nov 1 Character word for October is “COOPERATION” MOONLIGHT MADNESS Moonlight Madness will be held on Friday, October 25. This is the an- nual debut of the Varsity & JV Boys’ and Girls’ Basketball teams plus the High School Pep and Competition Cheer teams. The Middle School Basketball & Cheer teams will also participate. Come on out and support our Dawson Springs teams! BOYS’ & GIRLS’ SOCCER DISTRICT TOURNAMENTS The District 7 Soccer Tournaments will be held the week of October 14. New redistricting lines pit our Dawson Springs teams against Caldwell Co., Hopkins Co. Central & Madisonville-North. Both the Boys’ & Girls’ district games will be held at Riverside Park this year. Go Panthers!! HAVE A GREAT FALL BREAK! Break begins Friday, Oct. 4. Students return Tuesday, Oct. 15 MIDDLESCHOOL & PRIMARY ACADEMIC TEAMS FUNDRAISER The Middle School & Primary Aca- demic Teams will be selling Yankee Candles starting October 18 and con- tinuing for 2 weeks. Money Must be turned in with the orders. Items will be delivered in plenty of time for Christmas. Please call Kathy Kelley for more info or to place an order. INSIDE THIS ISSUE PIGGIES FOR PREEMIES Our foster Grandparents, Carolyn Sigler in the Preschool & Wendy Shipley in the Elementary, are collecting change for their “Make a Difference Day” project. Please help these two wonderful ladies exceed their goals. More details on the Kosair Childrens’ Hospital “Pennies for Preemies” program and fundraising efforts are included on page 5. RED RIBBON WEEK Red Ribbon Week is an alcohol, tobacco and other drug and violence prevention awareness campaign that will be observed this year from Monday, October 28 through Friday, November 1. Dawson Springs school children, school staff and community mem- bers will show their support by wearing red ribbons and apparel. A drug prevention / anti-bullying pro- gram, featuring the Wulfe Brothers, will be held on Monday, Oct 28, for both the Elementary and High Schools to kick off the week.
