“PUNCTUALITY”

KUDOS TO OUR SCHOOL

FOOD SERVICE

Although I don’t say it nearly often enough, I

am very proud of our lunchroom program.

Ms. Ladonna Bennett and her

staff work very hard to en-

sure that our students have

good-tasting, healthy meals.

So many restrictions are

placed on menu items and the way they can

be prepared, it is sometimes very difficult to

serve foods that meet all of the government

requirements but still taste good. Some of

you may think this is just a job to our

cafeteria workers, but I know how much they

really care about our students and want to do

the best job possible for them. Our lunch-

room prepared a total of 95,974 lunches

and 48,234 breakfasts last year!!

We have very good results with our on-line

pay and student account methods of payment

in the cafeteria. Occasionally, we do have a

few parents who get behind

in payments. We do not

want to keep any child from

eating due to lack of funds.

Please look at your child’s

online account or call Ms.

Bennett at school if you are not certain about

the money in your child’s account.

We want you to come to school and eat with

your children. I know this is especially im-

portant to parents with children in kindergar-

ten and first grade. We ask that you not

come to eat lunch with the more than once a

week. Although it is very difficult to watch

our babies grow up, they do need to establish

their own independence away from us.

Learning to go through the lunch line and

getting their food is a small step in this big

process of getting big.

Thank you for your continuing support of our

school system.

~Alexis Seymore, Superintendent~

Representative Ben Waide presented Dawson

Springs High School principal, Terry Hayes,

and Dawson Springs School System

superintendent Alexis Seymore with a certifi-

cate of accomplishment from The House of

Representatives of the Commonwealth of

Kentucky. According to No Child Left Behind

scores from state tests taken in the spring of

2011, Dawson Springs High School was ranked

24th out of a total of 230 Kentucky high

schools in the percentages of students scoring

proficient and distinguished in the curriculum

areas of math and reading.

Seventy-two percent of Dawson Springs High

School students scored proficient or

scored proficient or distinguished in math.

IT’S A GREAT DAY TO BE A PANTHER!

Panther Power!

I would like to say “Thank You” to the Dawson Springs

Police Department, Dawson Springs Independent School

System FRYSC, and Mr. Ross Workman for a wonderful

“Shop with the Cops” this year. All of the children were

so excited to have this opportunity to go and shop for

themselves and their families. It was a wonderful experi-

ence and I look forward to many more in the fu-

ture. Thank you to all of those who were involved.

Dawson Springs Students

Spread Holiday Cheer

To celebrate the holiday season with the Dawson

Springs community, several of the students in Ms.

Corie's Speech and Language classes created holiday

cards for the residents at Outwood. All of the

students involved had such a great time decorating

the cards and learning about the importance of

"Giving" during this holiday season. A special thanks

to Ryan Anglin, Stephanie Johnson, Rose Dunbar,

and Rachel Akin for delivering the Holiday cards to

the residents.

Congratulations to Allison Gordon,

DSHS winner of the annual Scripps

Spelling Bee. Allison, an 8th

grader, will represent our school in

the Tri-State Spelling Bee in

Evansville on February 4th.
