Pastor’s Corner Dear Parishioners,
Congratulations and a huge maraming salamat po to our
FilAm Council and many other leaders who put together an
excellent and well orchestrated San Lorenzo Ruiz celebration.
Holy Family sets the standard! Thanks to all of the troops who
led, guided, planned, served cleaned up and helped Holy Family look
really good! People were very enthused with the positive spirit and the heavenly
music. The food and entertainment at the Courtyard of Charity were excellent, too!
People oftentimes inquire about our Fil-Am council. Our Fil-Am council does
a great job in unifying the parish, the Filipino community and overseeing our
representation in our archdiocese. Our outgoing Fil-Am Council members (who
served the past few years): Ruben Salcedo, Ludy Santa Maria, Tess Legaspi and
Linda Policarpio. Serving us this year on the Fil-Am Council are the following:
President - Roland Mungues Members at Large:
VP – Ernie La Cambra Tom Makiling
Secretary - OC Hernandez Denny Cagampan
Bernadette Salas
Ping Bayani
Toto Mortel
Linda Gordon
Would your child like to serve as an altar server? We are accepting
applicants for those in 5th – 12th grades to serve at the altar. Training is once a year
annually and the application deadline is October 11th, no exceptions. Applications
are available at the parish office, the grade school office and online at hfglendale.org/
ministries. This is a ministry that focuses on building relationships, mentorship skills,
faith development and service under the leadership of our longtime parishioner, UCI
law student, and Holy Family Grade School, Providence and UCLA graduate, Eldrin
Masangkay, along with his dynamo Altar Server team. Don’t miss this golden
opportunity to serve the Lord at the altar!
The sign up deadline is rapidly approaching for THE EDGE for middle
schoolers (x381), ONEIGHT Confirmation for high school teens (x381), and RCIA for
adults interested in exploring our Catholic faith tradition and adults interested in
pursuing the sacraments of First Holy Communion and/or Confirmation (x382).
Our parish country fair is coming up October 28-29th. This is expanding to
a two-day event and will take place at both the grade school and high school
properties. We are encouraging everyone in the local community to participate in our
big event. Invite your friends and neighbors.
Just a friendly reminder: the Elks club is open for parish parking for Sunday
morning Masses. When the gates are open, please feel free to utilize this lot. We
appreciate the generosity of the Elks club. It is located just west of the church
between Colorado and Elk Avenues.

PREPARE FOR YOUR OFFERTORY COMMITMENT! Continued from front cover
Next week is the one time a year we review our finances and
evaluate what our gift to God is. We ask ourselves, Is it too low,
too high or just right? This week you will receive the parish
offertory newsletter in the mail. This is great information so you
understand where your money goes to. Read it and understand
it. If you have any questions, talk to a member of the Pastoral
Council or Finance Council. Be proud that your donation goes
to all the great programs listed in the newsletter. If you do not
get a newsletter, then you may not be registered in the parish.
Everyone should be registered. You are a member of Holy
Family!
After reading the newsletter you should pray, pray, pray! Ask
God's assistance to help you make the right decision on what
your weekly offering should be.
Then, you will be prepared and inspired as we go through the
prayerful process next week!

DID YOU KNOW?
Background checks
With school starting again, it’s likely that your
children are participating in a variety of after-school activities.
Many school sports and club programs are run by volunteers,
often parents with kids of their own in the school. It’s important
that the school or program takes measures to protect all
students, but as parents, it’s critical that you follow up and
confirm that the proper checks have been done. The
Archdiocese of Los Angeles uses fingerprinting as its core
background check. All persons, whether paid or volunteer, who
have regular contact with minors or vulnerable adults are
fingerprinted. For more information, visit http://handbook.la-
archdiocese.org/chapter-9/section-9-3.

EL PROCEDER DE DIOS
En la corriente de lecturas
durante esta porción del Tiempo
Ordinario a menudo parece que
los textos de una semana se
retoman donde concluyeron los
de la semana anterior. Los
sentimientos expresados en la
primera lectura de hoy parecen
ser reacción directa ante el pasaje
del Evangelio que escuchamos la
semana pasada.
apropiados. La Arquidiócesis de Los Ángeles usa
huellas dactilares como su verificación de
antecedentes principal. Se toman las huellas
dactilares de todas las personas, pagadas o
voluntarias, que tienen contacto regular con
menores o con adultos vulnerables. Para obtener
más información, visite http://handbook.la-
archdiocese.org/chapter-9/section-9-3.
