Day of Obligation Assumption of Mary Feast Day August 15

One glance at a daily newspaper or a televi-sion news show will tell you that some peo-ple do not value human life. But this is not news. During the Holocaust of World War II, millions of people were tortured and killed.

This terrible tragedy led many people to wonder about human life. How valuable is a single human life? How valuable are the lives of the elderly, the unborn, the terminally ill? Are their lives worth as much as those of people who are healthy and active, working, and raising fami-lies? God creates human life and gives it value. And Jesus gave his life on the cross to redeem each individual human person. By do-ing this, Jesus said, “Your life is worth my dying to save you.” Through his own Resurrection, Jesus showed us the glory of our resurrection and of our living in the Holy Spirit. Jesus promised that the body and soul of a person, separated at death, will be joined together again in glory at the Last Judgment. The person will be whole for all eternity. The feast of Mary’s Assumption is a preview of what our lives will be. At the end of her earthly life, Mary was assumed, or taken up, into heaven body and soul. She did not have to wait for the end of the world, as we do. God granted her this special privilege because of her sinlessness and her fullness of grace. The Church has always believed in Mary’s assumption into heaven. But on November 1, 1950, Pope Pius XII focused the atten-tion of the whole world on the Assumption of Mary as a dogma and mystery of our faith. This mystery shows us that God wants every human person, body and soul, to be in glory forever, just as Mary is now. This dogma shows how important every single human life is. Pope Plus XII hoped that by thinking about Mary’s Assumption, people all over the world would develop a deeper respect for their own lives and their own bodies. He also hoped that people would grow in re-spect for the lives of others.

Mass will be celebrated at 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 P.M.

The registrations for CCD 2014-2015 are now open. All returning students must register again for the new year; furthermore, all pending bal-ances should be paid off at the time of registra-tion.

All new and returning registrants must bring a copy of their cer-tificate of Baptism, plus initial payment (50% of total tuition). For more information, please contact the rectory.

Children are required to attend two consecutive years in order to received a Sacrament. Nineteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time Matthew 14:22-33

Jesus walks on water, and the disci-ples acknowledge him as the Son of God. Background on the Gospel Reading Today's Gospel directly follows last week's account of Jesus feeding a crowd of more than 5,000 people with

just five loaves of bread and two fish. For the sake of the crowds, Je-sus had postponed his time of solitude. Now, at last, Jesus finds some time for quiet and prayer. He sends his disciples ahead of him by boat, dismisses the crowds, and then withdraws to the mountain to pray. The disciples do not fare well. They struggle to weather the wind and waves, making little progress in their journey. We are re-minded of a previous story in Chapter 8 of Matthew's Gospel, when Jesus calms the seas. This time, however, Jesus does not calm the seas, and the disciples do not express fear until they see Jesus walk-ing toward them on the water. In this story it is not the storm that is feared but the sight of Jesus before them, whom they mistake for a ghost. Clues like these suggest that this story is about the disciples' growing understanding of the identity of Jesus. In continuity with last week's Gospel about the feeding of the multitude, today's Gospel is also about what the disciples' faith in Jesus will enable them to do. In last week's Gospel, when the disciples see the crowds, they ask Jesus to send the crowds away. Jesus turns the situation around, telling the disciples to feed the crowd with the provisions that they have. Both of these Gospels tell us much about ministry. Jesus calls to the disciples and calms their fears. He is not a ghost. The impulsive Peter seeks proof that the person is indeed Je-sus. He asks Jesus to call him out onto the water, and Jesus grants this request. Peter's fear and doubt overtake him, however, once he is walking on the water. Jesus reaches out to Peter and saves him. When Jesus and Peter enter the boat, Matthew reports that the wind ceases, and the disciples confess that Jesus is the Son of God. Faith in Jesus will enable the disciples to do the work that Jesus has done. Peter walks on water. The five loaves and two fish feed a multitude of people. The disciples can and will participate in the work of the kingdom of heaven. When Peter fears and doubts the per-son of Jesus, however, he falters. Peter's example teaches us that true Christian ministry emerges from the faith that Jesus is the Messi-ah, God's only Son.

"Mándame ir hacia ti an-dando sobre el agua". Inmediatamente después Jesús obligó a sus discí-pulos a que se embarca-ran; debían llegar antes

que él a la otra orilla, mientras él despedía a la gente. Je-sús, pues, despidió a la gente, y luego subió al cerro para orar a solas. Cayó la noche, y él seguía allí solo. En tanto, la barca estaba ya muy lejos de tierra, y las olas le pega-ban duramente, pues soplaba el viento en contra. Antes del amanecer, Jesús vino hacia ellos caminando sobre el mar. Al verlo caminando sobre el mar, se asustaron y ex-clamaron: “¡Es un fantasma!” Y por el miedo se pusieron a gritar. En seguida Jesús les dijo: “Animo, no teman, que soy yo.” Pedro contestó: “Señor, si eres tú, manda que yo vaya a ti caminando sobre el agua.” Jesús le dijo: “Ven.” Pedro bajó de la barca y empezó a caminar sobre las aguas en dirección a Jesús. Pero el viento seguía muy fuerte, tuvo miedo y comenzó a hundirse. Entonces gritó: “¡Señor, sálvame!” Al instante Jesús extendió la mano y lo agarró, diciendo: “Hombre de poca fe, ¿por qué has vaci-lado?” Subieron a la barca y cesó el viento, y los que estaban en la barca se postraron ante él, diciendo: “¡Verdaderamente tú eres el Hijo de Dios!”

La Asunción es un mensaje de esperanza que nos hace pensar en la dicha de alcanzar el Cielo, la gloria de Dios y en la alegría de tener una madre que ha alcanzado la meta a la que nosotros camina-mos. Este día, recordamos que María es

una obra maravillosa de Dios. Concebida sin pecado original, el cuerpo de María estuvo siempre libre de pecado. Era totalmen-te pura. Su alma nunca se corrompió. Su cuerpo nunca fue manchado por el pecado, fue siempre un templo santo e inma-culado. También, tenemos presente a Cristo por todas las gra-cias que derramó sobre su Madre María y cómo ella supo res-ponder a éstas. Ella alcanzó la Gloria de Dios por la vivencia de las virtudes. Se coronó con estas virtudes. La maternidad divina de María fue el mayor milagro y la fuente de su grandeza, pero Dios no coronó a María por su sola la maternidad, sino por sus virtudes: su caridad, su humil-dad, su pureza, su paciencia, su mansedumbre, su perfecto homenaje de adoración, amor, alabanza y agradecimiento. María cumplió perfectamente con la voluntad de Dios en su vida y eso es lo que la llevó a llegar a la gloria de Dios. En la Tierra todos queremos llegar a Dios y en esto trabajamos todos los días. Esta es nuestra esperanza. María ya ha alcanzado esto. Lo que ella ha alcanzado nos anima a noso-tros. Lo que ella posee nos sirve de esperanza. María tuvo una enorme confianza en Dios y su cora-zón lo tenía lleno de Dios. Ella es nuestra Madre del Cielo y está dispuesta a ayudarnos en todo lo que le pidamos.

XIX Niedziela Zwykła Gdy tłum został nasycony, zaraz Jezus przynaglił uczniów, żeby wsiedli do łodzi i wyprzedzili Go na drugi brzeg, zanim odprawi tłumy. Gdy to uczynił, wyszedł sam jeden na górę, aby się modlić. Wieczór zapadł, a On sam tam przebywał. Łódź zaś była już sporo stadiów oddalona od brzegu, miotana falami, bo wiatr był przeciwny. Lecz o czwartej straży nocnej przyszedł do nich, krocząc po jeziorze. Uczniowie, zobaczywszy Go kroczącego po jeziorze, zlękli się myśląc, że to zjawa, i ze strachu krzyknęli. Jezus zaraz przemówił do nich: Odwagi! Ja jestem, nie bójcie się! Na to odezwał się Piotr: Panie, jeśli to Ty jesteś, każ mi przyjść do siebie po wodzie! A On rzekł: Przyjdź! Piotr wyszedł z łodzi, i krocząc po wodzie, przyszedł do Jezusa. Lecz na widok silnego wiatru uląkł się i gdy zaczął tonąć, krzyknął: Panie, ratuj mnie! Jezus natychmiast wyciągnął rękę i chwycił go, mówiąc: Czemu zwątpiłeś, małej wiary? Gdy wsiedli do łodzi, wiatr się uciszył. Ci zaś, którzy byli w łodzi, upadli przed Nim, mówiąc: Prawdziwie jesteś Synem Bożym.

Refleksja nad Słowem Bożym

Wydarzenie to jest wymowną ilustra-cją różnych kolei naszego życia w relacji do Boga. Chyba każdy z nas zaznał kiedyś tego, co przytrafiło się Piotrowi. Oczywiście nie w ta-kiej niezwykłej formie, ale w sposób codzienny, normalny, często w swej powszedniości nawet

nie zauważony. Spróbujmy ten obraz rozszyfrować i doszukać się go w swoim życiu. A życie to bardzo często przypomina wątłą łódkę na wzburzonym morzu. Tyle zagrożeń czyha na nas zewsząd! Gdy nieraz człowiek leży sobie wieczorem i nieopacznie pomyśli, że te wszystkie okropieństwa, o których słyszał tego dnia w telewizji mogłyby stać się jego udziałem – a przecież jest to możliwe! – to od razu odchodzi mu ochota do snu. Rzeczywiście człowiek jest tylko okruszyną w mocy potężnych sił – i ślepej natury, i tych wyzwolo-nych przez człowieka. Jakie to szczęście, że jest Bóg! Jaki pokój spływa na człowieka, który potrafi Mu zaufać! Rozumiemy teraz Apostołów, którzy pośród tej największej burzy zobaczyli nagle Jezusa! Było to tak nieoczekiwane, że najpierw sie zlękli. „Nie bój-cie się! To Ja jestem.” – uspokajał ich Chrystus. Z Chrystusem żad-na życiowa burza nie jest groźna. Może być straszna, ale nie jest w stanie człowiekowi zagrodzić drogi do wieczności. O tym dobrze wiedzą ci, którzy Chystusowi zaufali – i ci, którzy próbują ich nisz-czyć. Wiedział też o tym św. Piotr. Na potwierdzenie tego zwrócił się do Chrystusa z prośbą absurdalną i po ludzku niemożliwą do spełnienia: „Panie, każ mi przyjść do siebie po falach.” Jak wielka jest moc wiary w Chrystusowe słowo! Dla wierzącego nie ma rzeczy niemożliwej! Tego ma nas nauczyć Piotr. Ale tylko dla wierzącego w moc Boga, a nie w swoje własne możliwości. W dziedzinie zba-wienia człowiek sam nie może zrobić nic! Przekonał się o tym na-ocznie i boleśnie Piotr, który krocząc po falach nabrał zapewne zbytniej pewności siebie. Kiedy tylko odwrócił oczy od Chrystusa, kiedy stracił z Nim duchową łączność – czyli kiedy ustała jego wia-ra, wtedy natychmiast zwyciężyła ludzka, słaba natura i pogrążył się w odmętach. „Czemu zwątpiłeś, małej wiary?” – uczyni mu potem wyrzut Chrystus. Taki zawsze jest los tych, którzy nie w Bogu, lecz w sobie pokładają nadzieję. Z Bogiem można wszystko, bez Boga nic. Ale zimny prysznic natychmiast otrzeźwił Piotra i przywiódł go do opamiętania – „Panie, ratuj!” Na szczęście życie duchowe jest tak urządzone, że gdy ktoś odstąpi od Boga, szybko się przekonuje, że nie warto, że zdrada i niewierność prowadzą do nieszczęścia, do wewnętrznej przegranej, do niepokoju sumienia – nawet jeśli w oczach tego świata opływa się we wszystko. Dlatego w chwilach takiego opamiętania, takiej „błogosławionej winy”, trzeba szybko wyciągać ręce do Boga. On może wszystko naprawić, może posta-wić człowieka z powrotem na nogi. To jest nieraz trochę bolesne, ale jeśli ma to człowiekowi uratować życie, życie wieczne – to niech boli! „Kogo ratują – nie cierpi”. Zresztą Bóg jest miłosierny: jeśli dla jakichś celów rani, to zaraz też sam leczy. Niech ta Ewangelia będzie dla nas pewną poglądową lekcją życia. Jeśli zdarzają się nam upadki, a zdarzają się wszystkim, to wiedzmy, że ich pierwszą przy-czyną jest osłabnięcie lub wręcz utrata wiary czyli więzi z Bogiem. A celem tych upadków jest przywiedzenie nas do opamiętania. Mo-że zbyt zapatrzyliśmy się w siebie, może zbyt wiele przypisujemy sobie samym, może sukcesy uderzyły nam do głowy, a może stra-ciwszy z oczu Chrystusa, ulegliśmy lękowi i zniechęceniu? Obojęt-nie co – pamiętajmy, że Chrystus czeka z wyciągniętą ręką. Kto się jej uchwyci będzie uratowany! Czy zechcemy – zależy tylko od nas.

Święto Patronalne Jak co roku będziemy obchodzić patronalne święto w Parafii - Odpust. Z tej okazji będzie Parafialna Odpustowa Loteria. Książeczki z losami są do na-bycia w biurze parafialnym. Losowanie nagród będzie na parkingu przy kościele

w dniu 24 sierpnia 2014 -ok.. godz. 5:00pm. Zwraca-my się również z prośbą, aby dostarczyć na plebanię jednorazowe naczynia, sztućce, kubki, serwetki, wo-dę, sodę, musztardę, keczup i wszystko, co może być wykorzystane podczas naszego świętowania. Pomoc w takiej formie przyczyni się do obniżenia wydat-ków związanych z naszym parafialnym świętem. Za waszą życzliwość i zrozumie-nie składamy serdeczne „Bóg Zapłać”.

Wniebowzięcie N.M.P. 15 sierpnia

W polskiej (i nie tylko) tradycji święto Wniebowzięcia N.M.P. zwane jest rów-nież świętem Matki Bożej Zielnej. Na pamiątkę podania głoszącego, że Aposto-łowie zamiast ciała Maryi znaleźli kwia-

ty, poświęca się kwiaty, zioła i kłosy zbóż. Lud wie-rzy, że zioła poświęcone w tym dniu za pośrednic-twem Maryi otrzymują moc leczniczą i chronią od chorób i zarazy. Rolnicy tego dnia dziękują Bogu za plony ziemi i ziarno, które zebrali z pól. Zapraszamy na Mszę św. w Uroczystość Wniebowzię-cia N.M.P. w języku polskim o godzinie 6:30 PM. Przypominamy że w tym dniu mamy obowiązek być na Mszy św. Prosimy o przyniesienie kwiatów, ziół i owoców ziemi do poświecenia podczas tej Mszy św.
