LIFE TOGETHER
Dear Friends,
This weekend and Monday, November 2, we are remembering our loved ones who have died and who, God willing, are counted among the communion of Saints. Our parish tradition is to remember the dead who have died this year and who were parishioners. We will call them by name, and offer to the family the cross which has hung in church since last November 1, bearing their name. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.
Recently I met with parents of our parish Cub Scouts to determine new leadership for the Scouting program in the parish. I thank Mr. and Mrs. John and Cherise Knapp, and Mrs. Genevieve Silverman for their dedication to scouting. I welcome the following new leaders: Cub Master, Mr. Thomas LeBlanc; Assistant Cub Master, Mr. Scott Giurintano; Mr. Brian DeLaune, Recruitment; Mr. William Bell, Advancement; Mr. Anders Gerhardt: Treasurer and Committee Chair; Fundraiser Chair, Mrs. Thomas Leblanc. I thank these leaders and encourage any young man to consider cub and boy scouting through Scouting at St Jean Vianney.
Next weekend, we will welcome Holy Land Gifts who bring items carved from the wood of the olive trees in the Holy Land. Besides providing well-crafted items, the monies raised helps support the Christian presence in the Holy Land.
We do accept food for our parish food pantry. We accept unopened canned and bagged items that we distribute to the needy. We do accept meat that is freshly refrigerated or frozen.
I thank all of you who have been patient with us during COVID 19. I also am so grateful to the many who have maintained your financial stewardship during these uncertain times. Your financial support allows our ministry life to continue.
I hope your week ahead is good.
Love,
Eternal Rest Grant Unto Them O Lord
We offer our sympathy to our parishioners who have recently lost
a loved one.

A Reflection on the Readings
By: Deacon Ricky Patterson
As we celebrate All Saints day, it is a good time for us to reflect on how they became saints. They were ordinary people that through their love for God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit became extraordinary. The saints focused themselves on doing the will of God in the world, instead of the will of the world. They each strived to live the Beatitudes with a deep understanding that any and all challenges are made good by God. Those who mourn will be comforted, the merciful will be shown mercy, peacemakers will be called the children of God. We Catholics often ask the saints to intercede for us. We look at their lives to be inspired and gather hope. Each of us are called to become saints, Yes – us! It is important for us to understand that the Lord took them from where they were to where they needed to be - so they could be his servants to others, just as Christ was servant to all. Many of the saints started out as the worst of sinners, but are made pure in the blood of the lamb. In the blood of lamb, we too have been made pure. We are also made pure in this same lamb when we receive the Holy Eucharist, when we pray and when we do for others. It is this selfless type of love that the saints experienced, and shared with the world that helped them become saints. We are all called to become saints, not in our own eyes, but God’s.
Living out the Beatitudes daily is a great place to start, embracing the sacraments and helping others in daily life is the next part. The most important part is following God’s will for us, not out of a feeling of obligation, instead out of loving devotion. Imagine how special it would be when God welcomes you home as his child, and the world cannot deny the fact that through it passed a true child of God.
"Rejoice and be glad for your reward will be great in heaven."
We welcome the following child to our parish family through the Sacrament of Baptism:

A CALL TO POLITICAL RESPONSIBILITY Catholic tradition affirms that responsible citizenship is a virtue and participation in political life is a moral obligation.
Election Day, November 3
We encourage all citizens, particularly Catholics, to embrace their citizenship not merely as a duty and privilege, but as an opportunity meaningfully to participate in building the culture of life. . . . Every act of responsible citizenship is an exercise of significant individual power. We get the public officials we deserve. Their virtue–or lack thereof–is a judgment not only on them, but on us. Because of this we urge our fellow citizens to see beyond party politics, to analyze campaign rhetoric critically and to choose their political leaders according to principle, not party affiliation or mere self-interest.
