Acushnet Announces BigNew Ad Campaign

Beginning with the 1958r'; March issues of national and

golf magazines, Acushnetlaunched the greatest con-sumer advertising campaignin its history. To carry thetorch for Acushnet, the wellremembered and well be-loved Fussy Foursome, ab-sent from Acushnet's adver-

~ tising for several years, hasbeen recalled to duty.

The return of these zanycharacters to Acushnet ad-vertising is, in a sense, bypopular request. Ever since

~ their retirement some yearsago, Acushnet has bee nbombarded with requests forreprints for framing. Acush-

""'" net and its ad agency reason-ed that as the popularity ofthese effective salesmen hadsurvived several years of absence, theybrought back. Every month during the spring

"1 and summer Acushnet ads will be going intoover 10,500,000 homes.

Washington Physicist InventsStrobe Golf Trainer

Prof. Luis W. Alvarez, Washington, D.C. physicist, has patented a stroboscopic r-:

golf training device. A stroboscope is aninstrument for studying interrupted light. In Alvarez' device, bright flashes illumin-ate the clubhead at four or five points asit approaches and strikes the ball. Inlooking down at the ball the player sees aseries of "positionally arrested images" atthese points. The images tell the player .,.'whether he has the club face at the properangle. By repeating his swing, he may beable to correct tendencies to slice, hook ortop the ball. A ball mayor may not beused with the strobe trainer.

Also attached to thetrainer is a"timingdevice that measures speed of the swingand indicates the distance an imaginary r,ball would travel.-------------------
