Please assist us to keep our students safe. Thank you. COMPASS We need 100% of our parents to be using compass in time for the semester one reports to be sent out online to parents. Have you registered as yet? RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOUR Respect is one of the school’s five values that we strive to practise on a daily basis. Just lately the staff have been disappointed by a small number of students who challenge staff and are rude in their verbal interactions, in fact some of them are just plain belligerent. I am sure that if parents of these children were to hear the way that some students speak to others they would be extremely disappointed in their own child. Everyone deserves to be spoken to respectfully. STUDENT ATTENDANCE In line with new attendance regulations the school will continue our practice of sending out messages for student absences on a daily basis. Parents have an obligation to advise the school of the reason for every absence. Please include your child’s first and last name and their grade details when notifying the school especially by email and phone. All absences must be explained and approved by the school. We are following the data carefully and are surprised by the number of students who have less than 80% attendance for the year already. Expected attendance rates should be above 95%. CHANGE THE WAY WE TRAVEL TO SCHOOL Keep increasing the amount of time or distance your child is walking and be a positive participant in the ‘change2walking’ program. DO YOU KNOW WHERE YOUR CHILD IS? Recently we have seen a small but growing number of senior students, mostly year 4, 5 or 6 boys who leave the school grounds after their parents have dropped them off and then head over to the shopping centre. Please remember that teachers are not on yard duty until 8:45 so if you are dropping your children off or they are walking to school before 8:45 we will not see what they are up to. PREP ENROLMENTS FOR 2019 If your child is turning 5 by April 30 in 2019 and you intend to send them to Prep at EVPS can you please complete an enrolment form as soon as possible. Obviously the earlier we know our numbers the earlier we can plan for the school structure and staffing needs. Enrolment forms need to be accompanied by proof of birth and the medicare immunisation certificate detailing your child’s immunisation history. FAREWELL AND THANKYOU Laura Alford leaves our school this Friday. Laura is heading for a sea change and will be teaching at Bellbrae PS. We thank Laura for her team work and efforts in our prep area over the past 5 years and look forward to hearing how things are going for her in the future. RAMADAN As Ramadan draws to an end we pay our respect to the families and staff in our community for their efforts over the past weeks. Enjoy the final celebrations. COMPASS

We need 100% of our parents to be using compass in time for the semester one reports to be sent out online to parents. Have you registered as yet?

RESPECTFUL BEHAVIOUR

Respect is one of the school’s five values that we strive to practise on a daily basis.

STUDENT ATTENDANCE

In line with new attendance regulations the school will continue our practice of sending out messages for student absences on a daily basis.

CHANGE THE WAY WE TRAVEL TO SCHOOL

Keep increasing the amount of time or distance your child is walking and be a positive participant in the ‘change2walking’ program.

PREP ENROLMENTS FOR 2019

If your child is turning 5 by April 30 in 2019 and you intend to send them to Prep at EVPS can you please complete an enrolment form as soon as possible. Obviously the earlier we know our numbers the earlier we can plan for the school structure and staffing needs. Enrolment forms need to be accompanied by proof of birth and the medicare immunisation certificate detailing your child’s immunisation history.

FAREWELL AND THANKYOU

Laura Alford leaves our school this Friday. Laura is heading for a sea change and will be teaching at Bellbrae PS. We thank Laura for her team work and efforts in our prep area over the past 5 years and look forward to hearing how things are going for her in the future.

RAMADAN

Winter Workout Tips

With the cold weather now setting in, it is often more tempting to stay indoors than brave the outside and exercise. But it is just as important to exercise and be active in winter as it is in warmer times.

Keeping your family active over winter can lead to a stronger immune system, making you less likely to catch colds and flu. And being outdoors in the fresh air (no matter how cold the air is!) also means you are not breathing in as much ‘indoor air’ which may be contaminated with colds and flu. You should feel warmer and reenergised after exercise as well!

So what are you waiting for (summer is 6 months away still!!). Grab a coat, hat and warm shoes and head out for a family walk or other type of physical activity.

Remember these exercise tips during winter.

Warm up - Cold temperatures can make your muscles tight and prone to injury. Make sure you do a thorough warm-up prior to your exercise. (eg jogging on the spot or some star jumps)

Insulate your body – If exercising outdoors, wear layers of clothing. Layering provides the most effective heating method and allows you to remove the top layer if you get too hot.

Drink up - It's just as important to stay hydrated when exercising in winter as it is in summer, even though you might not feel as thirsty.

Wear sunscreen – You can still get burnt in winter, so if you are exercising outdoors slip, slop and slap.

Exercise Tips taken from the YMCA website (http://www.victoria.ymca.org.au)
