ServiceBuBetin PARTS CHANGE INFORMATION

FOR CAL. 5M42A, 5M43A & 5M45A

The generating coil block for Cal. 5M42A, 5M43A and 5M45A has been changed for the purpose of enhancing the electricity-generating efficiency of those watches. Besides this change, the anti-magnetic shield plate was removed from the main plate of Cal. 5M42A and 5M43A. These changes will be in effect for the watches produced in and after April 1995.

1. CALIBRES TO BE PROVIDED WITH NEW PARTS

Generating coil block: Cal. 5M42A, 5M43A and 5M45A Main plate : Cal. 5M42A and 5M43A

2. REASONS FOR THE CHANGE

• Generating coil block (For Cal . 5M42A, 5M43A and 5M45A)

For the purpose of enhancing the electricity-generating efficiency of the watches and thereby reducing the time during which the watch should be worn on the wrist until the capacitor is fully charged, a generating coil block for exclusive use with Cal. 5M42A, 5M43A and 5M45A was developed.

• Main plate (For Cal . 5M42A and 5M43A)

Up to now, an anti-magnetic shield plate has been welded to the main plate to prevent the coil block for watch operation from being affected by the AC magnetic field, which is generated when the capacitor is overcharged. The IC was upgraded to take over this preventive measure; therefore, the anti-magnetic shield plate has been removed from the main plate, taking the occasion of renewing the generating coil block. Please note that the main plate for Cal. 5M45A will not be changed as the anti-magnetic shield plate for this calibre is a separate part affixed to the main plate with screws.

Asa result of this change. Cal. 5M42Aand 5M43Awill use the samemain plate as usedforCal. 5M23A.

COMBINED USE OF OLD AND NEW PARTS

The old and new parts can or cannot be used in combination as follows.

* Important:

Never use an old generating coil block (4002 519) together with a new main plate (0100 660 orOIOO 663),

which does not have an anti-magnetic shield plate welded to it. Otherwise, loss/gain of time may be

caused by the magnetic field.

CHANGES IN "VALUE CHECKING AND ADJUSTMENT"

Following the introduction of the new generating coil block, some values for checking and recharging of Cal. 5M42A and 5M43A should be renewed. Please revise the corresponding values in "VALUE CHECKING AND ADJUSTMENT" in your "PARTS CATALOGUE/TECHNICAL GUIDE Cal. 5M42A, Cal. 5M43A" as follows.

700 1,000 - 1,300 Approx. 4 days 20 seconds

1,100 1,700 - 2,000 Approx. 7 days 30 seconds

Note: The new generating coil block requires more swings to fully charge the capacitor, but it enhances

the electricity-generating efficiency when the watch is worn on the wrist.

REMARKS

Due to the change of the generating coil block for Cal. 5M42A, 5M43A and 5M45A, the new part has lost interchangeability with the generating coil block for Cal. 5M22A and 5M23A. The capacitor for Cal. 5M22A and 5M23A has different characteristics from that for Cal. 5M42A, 5M43A and 5M45A and the use of the new generating coil block for Cal. 5M22A and 5M23A will require more time to increase the voltage up to such a level that the second hand starts moving. Be sure, therefore, to use a generating coil block for exclusive use for each calibre.
