Volume 2016 Issue 8 - Aug 2016
The Bob Longmuir Memorial Clamfest was again a huge suc-cess. This success is all due to the many volunteers who give their time and energy. You are so appreciated! This even has now become a summer destination for many and the crowd is growing. FYI - Post 787 has been using Empire Federal Credit Union as our bank for many years. By their definition we are now considered a com-pany. This means anyone wishing to join the credit union has only to present their current membership card to be enrolled. EFCU is located at the corner of Rt. 31 & Rt.11 in the Town of Cicero. Friday nite entertainment will continue until August 19th (State Fair break). Our regular music schedule to resume September 9th. Come dine and dance. Enjoy the rest of your summer....stay safe! Jack Sheehan Commander

HERE WE GO AGAIN -
We have started the renewal process again, and I recently sent in 172 renewals to Department. I think that the goal this year should be somewhere around 700 but won’t know the actual number until after the State Convention. I would like to remind all members that if you enlist a new member, or convince someone to transfer from another post, they must supply a copy of their DD-214. This is a National Requirement, not a decision of the Post. Let’s all strive to get new members for our Post as we will have sev-eral losses due to transfers or deaths as well as members who just do not renew for some reason. If you know any-one who has trouble with their renewal, please have them let me know, and I will see if there is something that can be done to keep up their membership. Remember, if you fail to renew for a year, and then start again, you keep the same number, but start all over again with your continuous years with 1 year.

We are off to a fabulous start!!!! So many events planned and lots of fun too. So here we go ladies, the 96th Annual Convention of the American Legion Auxilia-ry, Department of New York, to be held in Binghamton, New York on July 14th, 15th and 16th of 2016! I am very proud and pleased that there will be seven members attending. Our voting power is four delegates and three alternates. We have the most voting power in Ononda-ga County, 5th District. This is amazing!!! We vote on the new officers for New York State and resolutions for the upcoming year for the Department, Constitution and By-Laws. Our first meeting will be September 1st, 2016. This is on a Thursday evening at 7:00 PM. Reason being I will be out of town on Tuesday, September 6th. Please be advised this will be a long meeting due to the infor-mation we are bringing back from Convention. It may be necessary to split this meeting. We can decide this at our September 1st meeting. On Sunday, August 7th, 2016 we are hosting our 2nd Annual Ice Cream Social/Luncheon Membership Drive from 4:30 PM to 7:30 PM at the Legion. This is free to members, theirs guests and anyone interested in joining the Auxiliary. Please come and meet the new officers for the upcoming year of 2016/2017. Bring a friend as well. There will be tables set up explaining exactly what we do, how we do it and where the proceeds go. We will have Past Presidents there and County Officers as well to help answer any questions you may have. We are hoping a good turn out like last year, only bigger and better. So Ladies let’s turn this into a girls’ night out as well!!! While members of the American Legion Family are individually unique, we welcome all veterans and their families. We take pride in our Legion and all that goes with it. You’ll find that getting connected to the Ameri-can Legion Auxiliary is one of the best decisions you will ever make. We work steadily side by side promoting Patriotism, National Security, while supporting our youth and advocating for our community, veterans, active mili-tary and as well as their families. August 5th is the next bake sale. This is a 100% profit for the Auxiliary. That being said, we desperately need more people to bake and/or volunteer 2 hours to work it. If you can’t bake or don’t like to bake you can purchase something and drop it off. Calls are made each month to members without email addresses. Continued …..

TROOP NEWSTROOP NEWSTROOP NEWS
President Obama is sending more troops overseas. We need donations for boxes to send to our military overseas. I greatly appreciate all you can do and so do our soldiers. Some suggestions are sun screen, lip balm, power bars, magazines, word search puzzles and prepaid phone cards so they call home. Remember they are protecting our free-dom and homeland shores. These boxes that are sent, mean the world to our troops. I have 20 boxes packed and ready to go now. My goal is to do at least 20 boxes every month. More if possible. Until all of our military is home safe and sound. So I am imploring you to help me make this happen for them. Thank you in advance for all that you do. Linda Jackson, President, Unit 787 Auxiliary
Please return these calls. If you don’t want to be called let us know and we will take you off the call list. Remember all of the money we make from our various functions goes to support our troops, veterans, community and their families. After all this is our Mission. The bake sale in September will not be held on the first Friday on the month because it is Labor day Weekend and we will be at the Great NYS Fair. It will be held on the 9th of September, the second Friday of the month. Just an FYI – on September 11th, we will be hosting a “911 – We Remember Dinner”. It will be held from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM or until sold out. More information on this will be published in the September Newsletter and there will be fly-ers around the American Legion Post 787. Last but not least, in next month’s newsletter, we will let you all know what we have planned for our upcoming year. So stay turned……. For God and Country, Linda Jackson,

From the Chaplain: Dear members, You are in distress when a loved one becomes ill, have sur-gery, get injured or passes away, that is understandable, but please let the Chaplain know as soon as possible so our Legion can take appropriate action. I check the obituaries each morn-ing, but if no mention of military service or being a Legion mem-ber, the family may think we don't care which is never the case. Please email or call Chaplain Heidenreich with infor-mation at [email protected] or 315-345-0702 or 315-458-3895.

August starts things up with the next County meeting to be held on Thursday the 11th at 6:30 PM at the Ralph Share Post #297 in Marcellus. As always all Legionnaires are in-vited to attend the County meetings. A complete list of the monthly dates will be posted at the Post as soon as I have all of the dates locked in.
