No Place Like Home – Art Exhibition Information Pack 2019

Thank you for your interest and support of Link Housing’s ‘No Place Like Home’ community art exhibition. As a leading community housing provider, we started the exhibition four years ago to raise awareness about the importance of a safe and secure home and to help our residents connect with the community through art.

This Information Pack is for those who are interested in applying to submit an artwork for this year’s exhibition. We accept applications from all members of the community and of all artistic skill levels.

The deadline to apply to submit an artwork is 19 July 2019. There are two ways to apply:

Exhibition venue and dates

This year, Link Housing is once again partnering with the City of Ryde, North Sydney Council, Hornsby Shire Council and Northern Beaches Council to host the No Place Like Home exhibition across Northern Sydney. The exhibition details are as follows:

● West Ryde Community Hall: 1 to 13 August 2019● North Sydney Community Centre: 15 to 20 August 2019● Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre: 22 to 24 August 2019● Arts and Cultural Hub - 291-299 Blaxland Rd, Ryde 2112: 27 to 29 August 2019● Creative Art Space: 25 to 28 September 2019

For each leg of the exhibition we host an opening/launch event. These events are attended by the general public, Link Housing community members, the artists and their friends and family – as well as local dignitaries. In 2019, there , as follows:

● West Ryde Community Hall: Thursday, 1 August 2019 6PM-8PM● North Sydney Community Centre: Friday 16, August 2019 6PM-8PM● Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre: Thursday, 22 August 6-8PM● Arts and Cultural Hub - 291-299 Blaxland Rd, Ryde 2112: Tuesday, 27 August 2019

11.00AM-1.00PM● Creative Art Space: Thursday 26, September 6-8PM

Drinks and canapes will be served. All exhibiting artists will be invited to these events. You can invite family and friends to accompany you.

Types and submission of artworks

We welcome artworks of all mediums, however on occasion, we may contact you to discuss your artwork if we feel it could be too large for the gallery space. If you would like to discuss your artwork with us before you submit an application, please contact Natasha Sitanala, Community Engagement Coordinator on 9412 5111 or 0431 756 584.

In past years, we have accepted more than one artwork from applicants, however this is not guaranteed. If you would like to submit more than one artwork, please put this on your application form. We will confirm whether you can submit more than one artwork soon after the application deadline on 30 June 2019.

Artwork presentation

Any work that will be hung (canvas/framed/watercolour etc.) should have D-rings fixed to the back. This will allow the curator to display the piece in a professional manner.

Place the hooks (pictured above) 4-10cm from the top of your artwork. All hardware shops sell D-hooks. D-hooks come in a variety of sizes depending on the weight of your artwork. Check you buy the right hook for the weight of your artwork. If you are having difficulty arranging this, please contact Natasha Sitanala, Community Engagement Coordinator on 9412 5111 or 0431 756 584.

Drop off/Collection of artworks

All artwork should be dropped off on Monday 29 July 2019 between 10am and 2pm at the Link Housing West Ryde Office, Level 2, 3-5 Anthony Rd, West Ryde. If this is not possible other arrangements may be able to be made with Natasha Sitanala, Community Engagement Coordinator. Please contact on 9412 5111 or 0431 756 584.

All work must be picked up from the Creative Space Curl Curl on Sunday 29 September between 4pm – 5pm.

Please note, this is subject to change when all venues have been confirmed.

Transportation from one venue to another

Link Housing will facilitate the transportation of all artworks between exhibitions. Link Housing will make every effort to ensure artworks are packaged appropriately for transportation to ensure no damage to pieces. You will be required to sign the Waiver and Release of Liability form for the transportation of your artwork. You will find this form at on the last page of this Information Pack. This will release Link Housing of any liability in the event of damage to artworks. If you do not wish to sign the waiver, you can arrange to collect your piece from each venue and transport it to the next one. If choosing this option, please note that Link Housing will confirm the dates and times for drop off and collection of artworks between venues.

Sale of Artwork

All artists have an option to sell their pieces. Link Housing will not take any commission for the sale or negotiate prices. Any artist wishing to sell their piece can do so by placing a coloured dot (will be supplied) and displaying their contact details on the card next to their piece. Interested parties will be asked to contact the seller directly to arrange a purchase.

Waiver and Release of Liability – Link Housing - No Place Like Home Art Exhibition

hereby irrevocably and unconditionally release, waive, discharge and forever hold harmless Link Housing Limited (ACN 003 084 928) of Level 10, 67 Albert Avenue, Chatswood, NSW 2067 (Link Housing), employees of Link Housing, agents, contractors and providers from any and all liabilities, claims, actions, damages, costs and expenses of any nature whatsoever in law and equity and howsoever arising, occurring during, caused by or arising from, participating in Link Housing's art exhibition – No Place Like Home to be held at West Ryde Community Hall: 1 – 12 August 2019, North Sydney Community Centre: 15 – 20 August 2019, Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre: 22 – 24 August 2019, Arts and Cultural Hub - 291-299 Blaxland Rd, Ryde 2112: 27 to 29 August 2019, Creative Art Space Curl Curl: 25 – 28 September 2019.

I understand, acknowledge and agree that participating in the art exhibition at the venues confirmed by Link Housing, could involve some risk to my artwork. I understand, acknowledge and agree that the transport of my artwork from one venue to another by Link Housing could involve risk and danger to my artwork. The aforementioned risk and danger may happen as a result of: my

actions, inactions or conduct; errors in judgement by others; the acts, omissions or negligence of others; inappropriate behaviour of others; imperfect conditions existing on the properties where the art exhibition takes place; situations beyond the immediate control of Link Housing or Link Housing employees; and any other matters which may not be readily foreseeable or are presently unknown.

By accepting and signing this release, I hereby acknowledge that I allow Link Housing to transport my artwork from the Ryde Exhibition to North Sydney Community Centre to Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre to Arts and Cultural Hub - 291-299 Blaxland Rd, Ryde 2112 and Creative Space Curl Curl at my own risk. This is the only time Link Housing will transport my artwork to or from a venue. I hereby irrevocably and unconditionally release, waive, discharge and forever hold harmless Link Housing, its employees, agents, contractors, providers, exhibition and event suppliers from all liabilities, claims, actions, damages, costs and expenses whatsoever in law or in and equity relating to the use of my artwork in the art exhibition and the transportation of my artwork to and from the three venues. I understand that the effect of this release includes holding harmless and releasing Link Housing, its employees, , agents, contractors, providers, exhibition and event suppliers of any financial liability for any damage or theft of my artwork.

I have carefully read the waiver and release of liability form and fully understand and accept its terms, have had a reasonable opportunity to obtain independent legal advice regarding all aspects of the waiver and release of liability form and have signed it freely and voluntarily, without any inducement, assurance or guarantee.
