    Network Services

    The wireless phone described in this guide is approved for use on the EGSM 900 and

    GSM 1800 network.

    Dualband is a network dependent feature. Check with your local service provider if youcan subscribe to and use this feature.

    A number of features included in this guide are called Network Services. These are

    special services that you arrange through your wireless service provider. Before you can

    take advantage of any of these Network Services, you must subscribe to them through

    your service provider and obtain instructions for their use from your service provider.

    Note: Some networks may not support all language-dependent characters

    and/or services.

    Check the model number of any charger before use with this device. Thisdevice is intended for use when supplied with power from ACP-7, ACP-8 and

    LCH-9.

    Warning: Use only batteries, chargers and accessories approved by the phone

    manufacturer for use with this particular phone model. The use of any other

    types may invalidate any approval or warranty applying to the phone, and

    may be dangerous.

    For availability of approved accessories, please check with your dealer.

    When you disconnect the power cord of any accessory, grasp and pull theplug, not the cord.

    General information

    Stickers in the salespackage

    The stickers contain importantinformation for service andcustomer support purposes.

    Access codes Security code (5-10 digits): The

    security code protects yourphone against unauthorised use,and is supplied with the phone.The preset code is 12345. Changethe code in the Settingsmenu,see Security settings on page34. Keep the new code secret andin a safe place separate from your

    phone.Set the phone to request thecode, see Security settings onpage 34.

    PIN code (4 to 8 digits): The PIN(Personal Identification Number)code protects your SIM cardagainst unauthorised use. ThePIN code is usually supplied withthe SIM card.

    Set the phone to request the PINcode each time the phone isswitched on, see Securitysettings on page 34.

    PIN2 code (4 to 8 digits): ThePIN2 code may be supplied with

    the SIM card and is required toaccess some functions, such ascharging unit counters.

    PUK and PUK2 codes (8 digits):The PUK (Personal UnblockingKey) code is required to change ablocked PIN code. The PUK2 code

    is required to change a blockedPIN2 code.

    If the codes are not supplied withthe SIM card, contact your localservice provider for the codes.

    Barring password: The barringpassword is needed when usingthe Call barring service, seeSecurity settingson page 34.The password is obtained fromyour service provider.

    Wallet code (4-10 digits): Thewallet code is needed to accessthe wallet services. For furtherinformation, see Walleton

    page 43. Signing PIN: The Signing PIN is

    needed for the digital signature.The signing PIN is supplied withthe SIM card if the SIM card has asecurity module in it.

    Overview of the functions of the phone

    The Nokia 6510 phone providesmany functions which are very

    practical for daily use, such as Clock,Alarm clock, Countdown timer,Games, Calculator, Calendar, Walletand many more.

    GPRS (General PacketRadio Service)

    GPRS is a technology that allowsmobile phones to be used forsending and receiving data over themobile network. GPRS as such is adata bearer that enables wirelessaccess to data networks such as theInternet. The applications that useGPRS are WAP, SMS messaging and

    the GPRS dial-up (for example,Internet and e-mail).

    Before you can use GPRS

    technology

    You need to subscribe to theGPRS service.

    For availability and subscription

    to the GPRS service, contact yournetwork operator or serviceprovider.

    You need to save the GPRSsettings for the applications usedover GPRS.

    Pricing for GPRS and applications

    Both the active GPRS connectionand the applications used over GPRS,for example using WAP services,sending and receiving data and SMSmessages, are priced. For moredetailed information on pricing,contact your network operator orservice provider.

    HSCSD (High SpeedCircuit Switched Data)

    The phone enables you to use GSMhigh-speed data services. You canuse high-speed functionality whenyour phone is connected to acomputer via an IR connection andwhen the modem drivers supportinghigh-speed data software areinstalled on your computer andselected as an active modem.

    WAP (WirelessApplication Protocol)

    You can access various WAP servicessuch as banking, news, weatherreports and flight times. These

    services are specially designed formobile phones and they aremaintained by WAP serviceproviders.

    Check the availability of WAPservices, pricing and tariffs with yournetwork operator and/or the service

    provider whose service you wish touse. Service providers will also giveyou instructions on how to use theirservices.

    RadioYour phone has an integrated FMradio. You can listen to the radio byusing a headset. See Radio (Menu10) on page 40.

    Voice featuresYour phone offers you the followingvoice features:

    Voice dialling - to make a call byusing a voice tag, see Voice

    diallingon page 18. Voice commands - to activate

    1. Your phone

    Keys and connectors

    1. Power key,

    Switches the phone on and off.

    While in the phone book or inmenu functions, or when thekeypad is locked, pressing thepower key briefly turns thephones display lights on forapproximately 15 seconds.

    2. Volume keys

    The upper key increases and thelower key decreases the earpiece(and headset) volume.

    3. Selection keys, and

    The function of the keys depends

    on the guiding text shown on thedisplay above the keys, forexample Menu and Names instandby mode.

    4. Scroll keys, and

    Enables scrolling through names,phone numbers, menus or

    settings.

    5. dials a phone number, andanswers a call. In standby mode itshows the most recently callednumber.

    6. ends an active call. Exitsfrom any function.

    7. - enter numbers andcharacters. Pressing and holding

    calls your voice mailbox.

    and are used forvarious purposes in differentfunctions.

    Standby modeWhen the phoneis ready for use,and nocharacters havebeen entered bythe user, the

    phone is in standby mode.Selection keys in standby mode areMenu and Names.

    xxxx Indicates the cellularnetwork in which the phoneis currently being used.

    Shows the signal strength ofthe cellular network at yourcurrent location. The higherthe bar, the stronger thesignal.

    The signal strength indicatoris replaced with theindicator when a GPRSconnection is set to Alwaysonline. See Setting up the

    phone for a WAP service onpage 47.

    Shows the battery chargelevel. The higher the bar, themore power in the battery.

    Other essential indicators in

    standby mode:

    You have received one orseveral text or picturemessages. See Reading andreplying to a messageonpage 24.

    You have received one orseveral voice messages. See

    Voice messages on page25.

    The phones keypad islocked. See Keypad lock(Keyguard)on page 6andKeyguard settingson page32.

    The phone does not ring atan incoming call or a textmessage when Incomingcall alertis set to OffandMessage alert toneis set toOff. See Tone settingsonpage 33.

    The is replaced with theindicator if there is anincoming or outgoing callduring a GPRS modemconnection. The GPRSconnection is suspended.

    phone lines, the divertindicator for the first line is

    Calls are limited to a closeduser group (network

    2. Getting started

    Installing the SIM cardand the battery

    Keep all miniature SIM cards outof the reach of small children.

    The SIM card and its contacts caneasily be damaged by scratchesor bending, so be careful whenhandling, inserting or removingthe card.

    Before installing the SIM card,always make sure that the phoneis switched off and then removethe battery.

    1. With the back of the phonefacing you, press the back coverrelease button (1) and slide the

    back cover off the phone (2).Remove the battery by lifting itfrom the finger grip (3).

    2. To release the SIM card holder,slightly lift the front edge of the

    cover on the card holder (4) andslide it backwards (5). Open thecover (6).

    3. Insert the SIM card into the SIMcard holder (7). Make sure thatthe SIM card is inserted properlyand that the golden contact areaon the card is facing downwards.

    Close the cover of the SIM card

    holder (8).

    4. Replace the battery (9).

    5. Direct the back cover towards thelocking catches on the frontcover (10) and slide the backcover until it locks into its place(11).

    Charging the battery1. Connect the lead of the charger

    to the socket on the bottom ofyour phone.

    2. Connect the charger to an ACwall socket.

    The text Charging is displayedbriefly if the phone is switchedon. If the battery is completely

    flat, it may take a few minutesbefore the charging indicatorappears on the display or anycalls can be made.

    You can use the phone while thecharger is connected.

    The charging time depends on the

    charger and the battery used. Forexample, charging a BLB-2 batterywith the ACP-8 charger takes about1 hour and 40 minutes.

    Switching the phone onand off

    Press and hold thepower key, .

    Note that if thephone displaysInsert SIM cardeventhough the SIM cardis properly inserted,contact yournetwork operator or service provider.

    Your phone does not support 5 VoltSIM cards and the card may need tobe changed.

    If the phone asks for a PIN code,key in the PIN code (displayedas ****), and press OK.

    Warning: Do not switch thephone on when wirelessphone use is prohibited orwhen it may causeinterference or danger.

    TIPS ON EFFICIENTOPERATION: Yourphone has a built-

    in antenna. Aswith any otherradio transmittingdevice, do nottouch the antennaunnecessarilywhen the phone isswitched on.

    Contact with theantenna affectscall quality andmay cause thephone to operate at a higher powerlevel than otherwise needed. Nottouching the antenna area during aphone call optimises the antennaperformance and the talktime ofyour phone.

    Keypad lock (Keyguard)You can lock the keypad to preventthe keys being accidentally pressed.

    Locking the keypad

    In standby mode, press Menuand then within 1.5seconds to lock the keypad.

    When the keypad is locked,appears at the top of the display.

    Unlocking the keypad

    Press Unlock and then

    within 1.5 seconds to unlock thekeypad.

    When the keyguard is on

    To answer a call, press .During a call, the phone can beoperated normally. When you endor reject the call, the keypad will

    automatically be locked. See alsoKeyguard settingson page 32.

    Note: When Keyguard is on,calls may be possible to theemergency numberprogrammed into yourphone (e.g. 112 or other

    official emergency number).Key in the emergencynumber and press .The number is displayedonly after you have keyed inits last digit.

    Changing the coversBefore changing the cover, alwaysswitch off the power and disconnectthe phone from the charger or anyother device. Always store and usethe phone with the covers attached.

    1. Remove the back cover of thephone. With the back of thephone facing you, press the backcover release button and slide thecover off the phone. SeeInstalling the SIM card and thebatteryon page 4.

    2. Gently pull the phone off thefront cover starting from the

    bottom of the phone (1).

    3. Replace the key mat on the newfront cover (2).

    4. To replace the front cover, alignthe top of the phone with the topof the front cover (3) and gentlypush the phone towards thecover (4). Ensure that the frontcover is closed into place.

    5. Replace the back cover of thephone. Direct the back covertowards the locking catches onthe front cover and slide the back

    cover until it locks into place. SeeInstalling the SIM card and thebatteryon page 4.

    3. Call functions

    Making a call1. Key in the phone number,

    including the area code. To editthe number on the display, press

    or to move thecursor and Clear to delete thecharacter to the left of the cursor.

    For international calls, presstwice for the international

    prefix (the + character replacesthe international access code)and then key in the country code,area code and the phone number.

    2. Press to call the number.

    3. Press or End callto endthe call (or to cancel the call

    Making a conference call

    Conference calling is a networkservice that allows up to six peopleto take part in a conference call.

    1. Make a call to the firstparticipant.

    2. To make a call to a newparticipant, press Options andselect New call.

    3. Key in, or search the memory, forthe phone number of the newparticipant and press Call. Thefirst call is put on hold.

    4. When the new call has beenanswered, join the firstparticipant in the conferencecall. Press Options and selectConference.

    5. To add a new participant to the

    call, repeat steps 2 to 4.

    6. To have a private conversationwith one of the participants:

    Press Options and select Private.Scroll to the desired participantand press OK. Once you havefinished the private conversation,

    re-establish to the conferencecall, as described in step 4.

    7. To end the conference call,press .

    Answering or rejectingan incoming call

    Press to answer the incomingcall and press to end the call.

    Press to reject the incomingcall.

    If you press Silence, only the ringingtone is muted. Then either answer orreject the call.

    Tip: If the Divert if busyfunction is activated to

    divert the calls, for exampleto your voice mailbox,rejecting an incoming callwill also divert the call. SeeCall diverton page 30.

    Call waiting

    You can answer an incoming callwhile you have a call in progress ifyou have activated the function Callwaiting service, see Call waitingservice on page 31.

    During a call, press to answerthe waiting call. The first call is puton hold. Press to end the

    4. Writing text

    You can key in text in two differentways, using the traditional method,

    or another method called predictivetext input.

    Using traditional textinput

    The indicator is shown on the topleft of the display when you are

    writing text using the traditionaltext input.

    Press a number key, to, repeatedly until the

    desired character appears. All thecharacters available under anumber key are not printed onthe key. The available charactersdepend on the language selectedin the Languagemenu. SeeLanguageon page 31.

    To insert a number, press andhold the number key you want.

    To switch between letter andnumber modes, press and hold

    . Number mode is indicatedby 123 at the top of the display.

    If the next letter you want islocated on the same key as thepresent one, wait until the cursorappears, or press or ,and then key in the letter.

    If you make a mistake, press

    Clear to remove the character to

    the left of the cursor. Press andhold Clear to delete thecharacters more quickly.

    Using predictive textinput

    You can key in any letter with asingle keypress. The predictive text

    input is based on a built-indictionary to which you can also addnew words. When the dictionarybecomes full, the new word replacesthe oldest added one. The indicator

    is shown on the top left of thedisplay when you are writing text byusing the predictive text input.

    Setting predictive text inputon or off

    When writing text, press Optionsand select Dictionary.

    To set the predictive text inputoff, select Dictionary off.

    To set the predictive text inputon, select a language available inthe dictionary options list.Predictive text input is onlyavailable for the languages in thelist.

    5. Phone book (Names)

    You can save names and phonenumbers in the phones memory

    (internal phone book) or in the SIMcards memory (SIM phone book).

    The internal phone book can saveup to 500 names with numbersand textual notes for each name.The total amount of names thatcan be saved depends on the

    length of the names, numbersand text items.

    The phone supports SIM cardsthat can save up to 250 namesand phone numbers. Names andnumbers saved in the SIM cardsmemory are indicated by .

    Selecting the phonebook settings

    1. Press Names and select Settings.

    2. Select Memory in use, and selectone of the following options:

    Phone and SIMto recall namesand numbers from both phonebooks. The names and numberswill be saved in the phonesmemory.

    Phoneto use the phones internalphone book.

    SIM cardto use the SIM cardsphone book.

    3. Select Phone book viewandselect one of the following

    options:Name listto show four names ata time.

    Name and no. to show one nameand phone number at a time.

    Large fontto show only thename.

    4. Select Memory status. SelectPhoneor SIM cardto see howmany names and phone numbersare currently saved and howmany can still be saved in theselected phone book.

    Saving names andphone numbers (Addname)

    Names and numbers will be saved inthe memory being used, seeSelecting the phone book settingsabove.

    1. Press Names and select Addname.

    Saving multiple numbers andtext items per name

    You can save up to five phonenumbers and four brief text items inthe phones internal phone book foreach name. Text items under onename can be street and e-mailaddresses, a note and a web address.

    The first number saved under a nameis automatically set as the default

    number, and is indicated with .When you select a name from thephone book, for example, to make acall, the default number is usedunless you select another number.

    1. Make sure that the memory inuse is either Phoneor Phone andSIM. See Selecting the phonebook settings on page 14.

    2. To access the list of names andphone numbers, press or

    in standby mode.

    3. Scroll to the name saved in thephones internal phone book, towhich you want to add a newnumber or text item and press

    Details. (If the name is not saved

    in the phone, the phone will askyou whether you want to save itthere.)

    4. Press Options and select Addnumberor Add text.

    5. Select one of the followingnumber or text types:

    Generalis the default typeused when no other number typeis set as the default number.Other number types areMobile, Home, Officeand

    Fax.

    To delete all names and numbersin the phone book at once, selectErase alland then scroll to thephone book, Phoneor SIM cardand press Erase. Press OK andconfirm with the security code.

    Copying phone booksYou can copy names and phonenumbers from the phones memory

    to your SIM cards memory and viceversa.

    1. Press Names and select Copy.

    2. Select the copying direction,From phone to SIM cardor FromSIM card to phone.

    If you select One by one, scrollto the name you want to copyand press Copy.

    Sending and receivinga business card

    You can send and receive a persons

    contact information as a businesscard either via IR or as an Over TheAir (OTA) message, if supported bythe network.

    Receiving a business card

    Make sure that your phone isready to receive data through its

    IR port, see Infrared (Menu 9)on page 40. The user of the otherphone can now send the nameand phone number via the samemedium.

    When you have received abusiness card via IR or as an OverThe Air (OTA) message, pressShow. Press Options and selectSaveto save the business card inthe phones memory, or Discardto discard the received businesscard.

    Sending a business card

    Using your phones infrared (IR)port you can send a personscontact info as a business card toa compatible phone or other

    handheld device which supportsthe vCard standard.

    1. Search the phone book for thename and phone number youwant to send, press Optionsand select Send bus. card.

    2. To send the business card via

    IR, make sure that the otherphone or the PC is set up toreceive data via its IR port andselect Via infrared.

    To send the business card asan OTA message, select ViaSMS.

    Speed diallingTo make a call using the speeddialling keys, see Speed dialling aphone numberon page 8.

    Assigning a number to a speed

    dialling key

    Press Names and select Speed dials.Scroll to the speed dialling keynumber you want, and press Assign.If a number is already assigned tothat key, press Options, and you canview, change or erase the assignednumber.

    Voice diallingYou can make a phone call by sayinga voice tag that has been added to aphone number. You can add up toten voice tags. Any spoken word(s),such as a persons name(s), can be avoice tag.

    Before using voice dialling, notethat:

    Voice tags are not languagedependent. They are dependenton the speaker's voice.

    Voice tags are sensitive tobackground noise. Record themand make calls in a quietenvironment.

    When recording a voice tag ormaking a call by saying a voicetag, hold the phone in the normal

    position near to your ear.

    Very short names are notaccepted. Use long names andavoid similar names for differentnumbers.

    Note: You must say thename exactly as you said it

    when you recorded it. Thismay be difficult in, forexample, a noisyenvironment or during anemergency, so you shouldnot rely solely upon voicedialling in allcircumstances.

    Adding a voice tag

    Save or copy in the phones memorythe names and phone numbers towhich you want to add a voice tag.

    You can also add voice tags to thenames in the SIM card, but if youreplace your SIM card with a newone, you first need to delete the oldvoice tags before you can add newones.

    1. In standby mode, press or.

    2. Scroll to the name to which youwant to add a voice tag and press

    Details. Scroll to the phonenumber you want and press

    Options.

    3. Select Add voice tag.

    4. Press Start, and clearly say the

    word(s) you want to record as avoice tag. After recording, thephone plays the recorded tag.

    5. When the voice tag has beensuccessfully saved, Voice tagsavedis displayed, a beep soundsand a symbol appears after

    the phone number with the voicetag.

    Making a call by usinga voice tag

    When an application using the GPRSconnection is sending or receivingdata, you cannot make a call usingvoice dialling. To make a call using avoice tag, end the application usingthe GPRS connection.

    1. In standby mode, press and holdthe volume down key, or pressand hold Names. A short tone isheard and Speak nowis

    displayed.2. Say the voice tag clearly.

    3. The phone plays the recognisedvoice tag and then dials thephone number of the voice tagafter 1.5 seconds.

    If you are using the headset, press

    and hold the headset key to start thevoice dialling.

    Replaying, changing orerasing a voice tag

    Press Names and select Voice tags.Scroll to the name with the voice tag

    you want, and press Options. To replay the voice tag, select

    Playback.

    To erase the voice tag, selectEraseand press OK.

    To change the voice tag, selectChange. Press Start to add the

    new voice tag.

    Service numbersYou can call the service numbers ofyour service provider if the servicenumbers are included on your SIMcard.

    Press Names and select ServiceNos.. Scroll to a service number andpress to call the number.

    Caller groupsYou can arrange the names and

    phone numbers saved in the phonebook into caller groups. For eachcaller group, you can set the phoneto sound a specific ringing tone andshow a selected graphic on thedisplay when you receive a call froma phone number in the group, seebelow. To set the phone to ring only

    upon calls from phone numbersbelonging to a selected caller group,see Alert forin the section Tonesettingson page 33.

    Press Names, select Caller groupsand select the caller group you want.Select

    Group name, key in a new namefor the caller group and press OK.

    Group ringing toneand scroll tothe ringing tone you want to setfor the group and press OK.Defaultis the ringing toneselected for the currently activeprofile.

    6. Using the menu

    The phone offers you an extensiverange of functions which are

    grouped in menus. Most of the menufunctions are provided with a briefhelp text. To view the help text,scroll to the menu function youwant and wait for 15 seconds. Toexit the help text, press Back. SeeHelp text activation on page 32.

    Accessing a menufunction

    By scrolling

    1. To access the menu, press Menu.

    2. Scroll through the menu andselect, for example, Settingsby

    pressing Select.3. If the menu contains submenus,

    select the one you want, forexample Call settings.

    4. If the selected submenu containsfurther submenus, repeat step 3.Select the next submenu, for

    example Anykey answer.5. Select the setting of your choice.

    Messages(Menu 1)

    You can read, writeand send text and picture messagesor save your messages. All themessages in your phones messagememory are organised in folders.

    Before you can send any text orpicture messages, you need to save

    your message centre number, seeMessage settings on page 26.

    Writing and sendingmessages

    You can write and edit textmessages of up to 160 characters.

    1. Press Menu, and selectMessagesand Write message

    2. Key in a message. See Writingtexton page 11.

    3. To send the message, pressOptions, and select Send.

    4. Enter the recipients phonenumber and press OK to send the

    message, or search for the phonenumber in the phone book. PressOK to send the message.

    Note: When sendingmessages via the SMSnetwork service, your phonemay display the words

    "Message Sent". This is anindication that the messagehas been sent by your phoneto the message centrenumber programmed intoyour phone. This is not anindication that the messagehas been received at the

    intended destination. Formore details about SMSservices, check with yourservice provider.

    Options for sendinga message

    After you have written a message,press Options, and select Sendingoptions.

    To send a message to severalrecipients, select Send to many.When you have sent the messageto everyone you want to send itto, press Done.

    To send a message using amessage profile, select Sendingprofileand then the messageprofile you want to use.

    For example, if you select a

    profile you have defined as ane-mail transmission, key in orsearch the phone book for therecipients e-mail address andpress OK. Key in the e-mailservice number, select Accepttosend the message.

    To define a message profile, seeMessage settingson page 26.

    To forward a message to severalrecipients or using a messageprofile, select Forw. optionsandthen select Send to manyorSending profile, respectively.

    Text and picture templates

    Press Menu, select MessagesandTemplates. The list of text templates,indicated with , and picturetemplates, indicated with , isdisplayed.

    Your phone offers you 10 picturemessage templates. You can alsosave new pictures into theTemplatesfolder. More pictures canbe found on the Nokia website,http://www.club.nokia.com.

    Note: This function can beused only if it is supportedby your network operator orservice provider. Onlyphones that offer picture

    message features canreceive and display picturemessages.

    Each picture message is made upof several text messages.Therefore, sending one picturemessage may cost more than

    sending one text message. Since picture messages are saved

    in the phones memory, youcannot view them if you use yourSIM card with another phone.

    Inserting a text template ina message

    When you are writing or replying toa message, press Options. SelectUse templateand select thetemplate you want to insert.

    Inserting a picture template ina messageWhen you are writing or replying to

    a message, press Options. SelectAttach pictureand select a pictureto view. Press Attach to insert thepicture into your message.

    The indicator on the header ofthe message indicates that a picturehas been attached. The number ofcharacters that you can enter in amessage, depends on the size of the

    picture.To view the text and the picturetogether before sending themessage press Options and selectPreview.

    Reading and replying to

    a messageWhen you have received a text orpicture message, the indicatorand the number of new messagesfollowed by messages receivedwillappear on the display.

    The blinking indicates that the

    message memory is full. Before youcan receive or send new messages,delete some of your old messages.

    1. Press Show to view the message,or press Exit to view it later.

    Reading the message later: PressMenu, select MessagesandInbox.

    2. If more than one message isreceived, select the message youwant to read. An unread textmessage is indicated by infront of it and an unviewedpicture message is indicated by

    .

    3. While reading or viewing themessage, press Options.

    You can select an option to erase,forward, edit, move, and renamethe message you are reading. You

    can also change the font size ofthe message. Select Copy tocalend. to copy the message toyour phones calendar as areminder note for the currentday.

    Select Detailsto view, for

    example, the senders name andphone number, the messagecentre used, reception date andtime.

    Select Use numberto extractnumbers from the currentmessage.

    Select Save pictureto save thepicture in the Templatesfolder.

    Select Replyor Reply (text)toreply to a message. SelectOriginal textto include theoriginal message in the reply, orselect standard answers, forexample, Thank you or Congrats

    or Templateto be included in thereply, or select Empty screen.

    4. Write your reply message.

    5. Press Options, select Send, andpress OK to send the message tothe displayed number.

    Inbox and outbox folders

    After you have read an incomingtext or picture message, the phonesaves the message in the Inboxfolder of the Messagesmenu.

    You can save a message that youwant to send later in the Outbox,Archiveor Templatesfolder.

    Erasing the messages

    Press Menu, select Messagesandselect Erase messages.

    To delete all the messages in a folder,scroll to the folder and press OK.Then press OK when Erase all readmessages from folder?is displayed.

    To delete all read messages from allthe folders, scroll to All readandpress OK. Then press OK when Erase

    all read messages?is displayed.

    Archive folder andMy folders

    To organise your messages, you canmove some of them to the Archivefolder, or add new folders for your

    messages.While reading a message, press

    Options. Select Move, scroll to thefolder where you want to move themessage and press OK.

    To add or delete a folder, pressMenu, select Messagesand Myfolders.

    To add a folder, press Optionsand select Add folder.

    To delete a folder, scroll to thefolder you want to delete, press

    Options and select Delete folder.

    Voice messages

    Voice mailbox is a network serviceand you may need to subscribe to it

    Info messages

    With the info message networkservice, you can receive messages onvarious topics, for example weatheror traffic conditions, from yourservice provider. For available topicsand relevant topic numbers, contactyour service provider.

    If the GPRS connection is set toAlways online, the info messagesmay not be received. In that case, setthe GPRS connection to When

    needed, see Setting up the phonefor a WAP serviceon page 47.

    Service command editor

    Press Menu, select MessagesandService command editor. Key in andsend service requests (also known as

    USSD commands), such as activationcommands for network services, toyour service provider.

    Message settings

    The message settings affect thesending of messages.

    Press Menu, select MessagesandMessage settings.

    If more than one message profile setis supported by your SIM card, selectthe set you want to change.

    Select Message centre numbertosave the phone number of themessage centre. You need themessage centre number to send textand picture messages. You receive

    the number from your serviceprovider. Select Messages sent asto select the message format, orMessage validity. Select Defaultrecipient numberto save a default

    number to send messages for thismessage profile, Delivery reportstorequest the network to send deliveryreports on your messages (networkservice), and Use GPRSto set GPRSas the preferred SMS bearer. SelectReply via same centreto allow therecipient of your message to send

    you a reply via your message centre(network service), and Renamesending profileto change the nameof the selected message profile. Themessage profile sets are displayedonly if your SIM card supports morethan one set.

    Call register(Menu 2)

    The phone registersthe phone numbers of missed,received and dialled calls, and theapproximate length and cost of yourcalls.

    The phone registers missed andreceived calls only if the networksupports these functions, the phoneis switched on and within thenetworks service area.

    When you press Options in theMissed calls, Received callsandDialled numbersmenus, you canview the date and the time of thecall, edit or erase the phone number

    from the list, save the number in thephone book, or send a message tothe number.

    Missed calls andreceived calls

    To view the list of the last ten phone

    numbers from which somebody hastried to call you (network service),press Menu, select Call registerandMissed calls.

    Tip: When a note aboutmissed calls is beingdisplayed, press List toaccess the list of phonenumbers. Scroll to thenumber you would like tocall back and press .

    To view the list of the last ten phonenumbers from which you have mostrecently accepted calls (networkservice), press Menu, select Call

    registerand Received calls.

    Dialled numbers

    To view the list of the 20 phonenumbers that you have mostrecently called or attempted to call,press Menu, select Call registerand

    Dialled numbers. See also Lastnumber rediallingon page 8.

    Erase recent call lists

    To erase the recent calls lists, press

    Menu, select Call registerand selectErase recent call lists. Selectwhether you want to delete all thephone numbers in the recent calllists, or only the numbers in themissed calls, received calls or diallednumbers lists. You cannot undo theoperation.

    Call counters and call timers

    Note: The actual invoice forcalls and services from yourservice provider may vary,depending upon networkfeatures, rounding-off forbilling, taxes and so forth.

    Press Menu and select Call register.

    Select Call duration and scroll to view

    the approximate duration of yourincoming and outgoing calls inhours, minutes and seconds. Toclear the timers, the securitycode is needed.Each phone line has its own call

    timers and the timers of theselected line is displayed. SeeLine for outgoing callson page31.

    Call costs(network service) andselect Last call unitsor All calls'unitsto check the cost of yourlast call or all calls.

    Select Call cost settingsand

    then select Clear counters, orselect Show costs in to set thephone to show the remaining talktime in terms of charging unitsUnits, or units of currency,Currency. Contact your serviceprovider for charging unit prices.

    Select Call cost limitto limit thecost of your calls to a certainamount of charging units or unitsof currency. The PIN2 code isneeded for the call cost settings.

    Note: When no morecharging units or currencyunits are left, calls may only

    be possible to theemergency numberprogrammed into yourphone (e.g. 112 or otherofficial emergency number).

    GPRS data counterand scroll tocheck the amounts of data that

    were last sent and last received,data sent and received in total,and to clear the counters. Thecounter unit is a byte.

    GPRS connection timerandscroll to check the duration ofthe last GPRS connection or thetotal GPRS connection. You canalso clear the timers.

    Profiles(Menu 3)

    Your phone hasvarious setting groups, or profiles,for which you can customise thephone tones for different events and

    environments. At first, personalisethe profiles to your liking and thenyou only need to activate a profile touse it.

    Available profiles are General,Silent, Meeting, Outdoor, and Pager.

    Press Menu and select Profiles.

    Scroll to a profile and press Select. To activate the profile, select

    Activate.

    Tip: To change the profilequickly in standby mode,press the power key ,scroll to the profile youwant to activate and pressSelect.

    To set the profile to be active fora certain amount of time up to 24hours, select Timedand set thetime. When the time set for theprofile expires, the previousprofile that was not timed,

    becomes active.

    To personalise the profile, selectPersonalise. Select the settingyou want to change and makethe changes.

    The settings can also be changed

    in the Tone settingsmenu, seeTone settingson page 33. Inaddition, you can rename aprofile, Profile name. The Generalprofile cannot be renamed.

    Alarm clock

    The alarm clock uses the time formatset for the clock. The alarm clockworks even when the phone isswitched off.

    Press Menu, select SettingsandAlarm clock. Key in the alarm timeand press OK. To change the timewhen the alarm time is set, selectOn.

    When the alarm time expires

    The phone will sound an alert tone,

    and flash Alarm!and the alarm timeon the display.

    Press Stop to stop the alarm. If youlet the phone continue to alarm for aminute or press Snooze, the alarmstops for a few minutes and thenresumes.

    If the alarm time is reached whilethe phone is switched off, the phoneswitches itself on and startssounding the alarm tone. If you press

    Stop, the phone asks whether you

    want to activate the phone for calls.Press No to switch off the phone orYes to make and receive calls.

    Note: Do not pressYeswhen wireless phone use isprohibited or when it maycause interference or

    danger.

    Time settings

    ClockPress Menu, select Settings, Timesettingsand Clock.

    Select Show clock(Hide clock) and

    the time is shown on the top right ofthe display when the phone is instandby mode. Select Set the time,key in the right time and press OK.Select Time formatand set the12-hour or 24-hour time format.

    The clock also serves the functionsMessages, Call register, Alarmclock, timed Profilesand Calendar.

    If the battery is removed from thephone for a long time, you may needto set the time again.

    DatePress Menu, select Calendar,Optionsand Settings.

    Select Set the date, Date formatand Date separatorto set the dateand the way you want it to bedisplayed.

    Auto update of date and timePress Menu, select Settings, Timesettingsand Auto update of dateand time(network service). To setthe phone to automatically update

    the time and date according to thecurrent time zone, select On. To setthe phone to ask for a confirmationbefore the update, select Confirmfirst.

    Updating the date and time affectsthe alarm clock, calendar and voice

    recorder, and the alarm notes youhave set are now set to the localtime. Updating may cause somecalendar notes to expire.

    Call settings

    Call divert

    Press Menu, select Settings, Callsettingsand Call divert(networkservice). With call divert you candirect your incoming calls to anothernumber, for example, to your voicemailbox number. For details, contactyour service provider. Divert optionsnot supported by your SIM card or

    your network operator may not beshown.

    Select the divert option you want,for example, select Divert if busytodivert the voice calls when yournumber is busy or when you rejectan incoming call.

    To set the divert setting on, selectActivate, to set the divert settingoff, select Cancel, or Check statustocheck whether the divert is activatedor not. To change the timeout whenthe call is diverted, first select Setdelayif this is available for the divert

    option, and then select Activatetoset the divert setting on.

    To cancel all the active call diverts atonce, select the option Cancel alldiverts.

    To see the divert indicators instandby mode, see Standby modeon page 2.

    Anykey answerPress Menu, select Settings, Callsettingsand then Anykey answer.Select On and you can answer anincoming call by briefly pressing anykey, except and .

    Automatic redialPress Menu, select Settings, Callsettingsand Automatic redial.Select On and your phone will makea maximum of ten attempts toconnect the call after anunsuccessful call attempt.

    Line for outgoing callsLine for outgoing calls is a networkservice to select the phone line (thatis, subscriber number) 1 or 2 formaking calls.

    Press Menu, select Settings, Callsettingsand Line for outgoing calls.If you select Line 2and have notsubscribed to this network service,you will not be able to make calls.However, calls on both lines can beanswered regardless of the selected

    line.If supported by your SIM card, youcan prevent the line selection byselecting the option Lock.

    For more information on availability,contact your network operator orservice provider.

    Tip: In standby mode, youcan switch from one line tothe other by pressing andholding .

    Phone settings

    Language

    Press Menu, select Settings, Phonesettingsand Language. Select thelanguage for the display texts. IfAutomaticis selected, the phoneselects the language according tothe information on the SIM card.

    area.If you select Manual, the phoneshows a list of the availablenetworks and you can select anetwork that has a roamingagreement with your home networkoperator. Otherwise, No accesswill

    be displayed and you must selectanother network. The phone stays inmanual mode until the automaticmode is selected or another SIM cardis inserted into the phone.

    Start-up toneTo set the phone to play or not toplay a start-up tone when the phoneis switched on, press Menu, selectSettings, Phone settingsand

    Start-up tone.

    If you have set a welcome note, thestart-up tone will not be played, seeWelcome noteon page 32.

    Tone settings

    Press Menu, select Settingsand

    then Tone settings. You can find thesame settings in the Profilesmenu,see Profiles (Menu 3) on page 28.

    Select Incoming call alertto choosehow the phone notifies you of anincoming voice call. The options areRinging, Ascending, Ring once, Beep

    onceand Off.Select Ringing tone, Ringing volumeand Vibrating alertfor an incomingvoice call and an incoming message.The vibrating alert does not workwhen the phone is connected to acharger, desktop stand, or a car kit.

    Tip: If you receive a ringingtone via IR or OTA, you cansave ten ringing tones at atime in the ringing tone list.

    Select Message alert toneto set thealert tone for the incomingmessages, Keypad tones, orWarning tonesto set the phone to

    sound tones, for example, when thebattery is running out of power.

    Select Alert forto set the phone toring only upon calls from phonenumbers that belong to a selectedcaller group. Scroll to the callergroup you want or All callsand press

    Mark.

    Accessory settings

    The accessory settings menu isshown only if the phone is or hasbeen connected to one of thefollowing accessories: headsets

    HDC-5, HDE-2 or HDD-1, handsfreecar kits PPH-1 and 132, mobileinductive loopset LPS-3 or NokiaMusic Player.

    Press Menu, select SettingsandAccessory settings. Select Headset,Handsfreeor Loopset.

    Select Default profileto selectthe profile you want to beautomatically activated whenyou connect the selectedaccessory. You can select anotherprofile while the accessory isconnected.

    Select Automatic answerto set

    the phone to automaticallyanswer an incoming call afterfive seconds. If the Incoming callalertis set to Beep onceor Off,automatic answer will not be inuse.

    Select Lightsto set the lightspermanently on, On. SelectAutomaticto set the lights on for15 seconds after a keypress. TheLightsoption is available only

    when Handsfreeis selected. Select Use loopsetto set the

    loopset in use instead of theheadset, Yes. Use loopsetisavailable only when Loopsetisselected.

    GPRS modem settingsYou can connect the phone via IRconnection to a compatible PC anduse the phone as a modem to enableGPRS connectivity from the PC.

    Press Menu, select SettingsandGPRS modem settings. Select Active

    access pointand activate the accesspoint you want to use. Select Editactive access pointto change theaccess point settings.

    Scroll to Alias for access pointand press Rename. Key in thename you would like for theactivated access point and press

    OK.

    Scroll to GPRS access pointandpress Edit. Key in the AccessPoint Name (APN) and press OK.

    An Access Point Name is neededto establish a connection to theGPRS network. You can obtain

    the Access Point Name from yournetwork operator or serviceprovider.

    You can also set the GPRS modemservice settings (Access Point Name)on your PC by using the NokiaModem Options software, seeModem setupon page 58. If you

    have set the settings on your PC andyour phone, note that the settingsmade on the PC will be used.

    Security settings

    Note: When securityfeatures, which restrict

    calls, are in use (call barring,closed user group and fixeddialling), calls may bepossible to certainemergency numbers insome networks (e.g. 112 orother official emergencynumber).

    Press Menu, select SettingsandSecurity settings. Select

    PIN code requestto set thephone to ask for your PIN codeevery time the phone is switchedon. Some SIM cards do not allowthe PIN code request to be turned

    off. Call barring service(network

    service) to restrict incoming callsto and outgoing calls from yourphone. A barring password isrequired.

    Fixed dialling to restrict youroutgoing calls to selected phonenumbers if this function issupported by your SIM card. ThePIN2 code is required.

    Closed user group. Closed usergroup is a network service thatspecifies the group of peoplewhom you can call and who cancall you. For more informationcontact your network operator orservice provider.

    Security level. Select Phoneandthe phone will ask for thesecurity code whenever a newSIM card is inserted into thephone.

    Select Memoryand the phonewill ask for the security codewhenever you want to select thephones internal memory or tocopy from one memory toanother. See Selecting thephone book settingson page 14and Copying phone booksonpage 16.

    Change of access codesand you

    can change security code, PINcode; PIN2 code or barringpassword. Codes can only includenumbers from 0 to 9.

    Note that you should avoid usingaccess codes similar to theemergency numbers, such as 112,to prevent accidental dialling ofthe emergency number.

    Restore factory settings

    To reset some of the menu settingsto their original values, press Menu,select Settingsand Restore factorysettings. Key in the security codeand press OK. For example, thenames and phone numbers saved inthe phone book are not deleted.

    Games(Menu 5)

    Note: The phone must be

    switched on to use thisfunction. Do not switch onthe phone when the use ofa wireless phone isprohibited or when it maycause interference ordanger.

    Starting a game

    Press Menu, select GamesandSelect game. Select the game youwould like to play, Snake II, Pairs II,Space Impactor Bumper. Ifavailable for the game, select thegame type or 1 playerand then New

    game.

    You can get instructions about howto use the keys and how the gameworks by selecting Instructionsfromthe submenu.

    Starting a 2-player gameYou may also play some games as a2-player game via the IR port of yourphone with a person who has thesame game on a compatible phone.

    Before starting a 2-player game,ensure that the IR ports of the twophones are pointing at each other.See Infrared (Menu 9)on page 40.

    To start the game, both playersshould select the option 2 players.Choose either Host gameto start a

    new 2-player game or Join gametojoin a game after the other playerhas chosen the Host gameoption.

    Game settings

    Press Menu, select GamesandSettings. Select Settingsto setsounds, lights and vibrator, Shakes,for the game. The vibrator can be seton only ifVibrating alertisactivated, see Tone settingsonpage 33.

    Calculator(Menu 6)

    The calculator in yourphone adds, subtracts, multiplies,

    divides, calculates the square andthe square root and convertscurrency values.

    Note: The phone must beswitched on to use thisfunction. Do not switch onthe phone when the use of awireless phone is prohibited

    or when it may causeinterference or danger.

    This calculator has a limitedaccuracy and rounding errors mayoccur, especially in long divisions.

    1. Press Menu and selectCalculator.

    2. When 0 is displayed on thescreen, key in the first number inthe calculation, press for adecimal point.

    3. Press Options and select Add,Subtract, Multiply, Divide,Square, Square rootor Changesign.

    5. For a total, press Options andselect Equals. Repeat steps 3 to 5

    as many times as necessary.

    6. To start a new calculation, firstpress and hold Clear.

    Making a currencyconversion

    1. Press Menu and select

    Calculator.

    2. To save the exchange rate, pressOptions and select Exchangerate. Select either of thedisplayed options. Key in theexchange rate, press for adecimal point, and press OK. The

    exchange rate remains in thememory until you replace it withanother one.

    3. To make the currency conversion,key in the amount to beconverted, press Options andselect In domesticor In foreign.

    You can also make the currency

    conversion in standby mode. Key inthe amount to be converted, press

    Options and select In domesticor Inforeign.

    To-do list(Menu 7)

    You can save a note for a task thatyou have to do. The notes can besaved in priority order. You may beable to save up to 30 notes but thisdepends on how long the notes are.

    Note: The phone must beswitched on to use this

    function. Do not switch onthe phone when the use of awireless phone is prohibitedor when it may causeinterference or danger.

    Press Menu and select To-do list.Press Options, or scroll to the noteyou want and then press Options.

    Select

    Viewto view the selected note.

    Eraseto delete the selected note.

    Editto modify the contents of

    the note. Edit priorityto change the

    priority level for the note.

    Go to priorityto select thepriority level from which you liketo view notes.

    Save to calend. to save the note

    as a calendar note. Send as textto send the note to

    another phone as a text message.

    Calendar(Menu 8)

    The calendar helps

    you to keep track of reminders, callsthat you need to make, meetings,and birthdays. The phone sounds analarm tone when the set date for anevent is reached.

    Note: The phone must beswitched on to use thisfunction. Do not switch onthe phone when the use ofa wireless phone is

    prohibited or when it maycause interference ordanger.

    Press Menu and select Calendar.Scroll to the day you want. If thereare any notes set for the day, thecorresponding note type indicator is

    shown. If you want to see the daysnotes, press Options and select Daynotes. The note indicator is shownon the first line. You can view asingle note by scrolling to it in dayview, then pressing Options andView. The week view shows fourweeks at a time.

    The other options for the calendar

    views may include:

    Options for making a note, forsending a note via IR, or as a notedirectly to another phonescalendar or as a text message.

    Options for erasing, editing,

    moving and repeating a note andfor copying a note to another day.

    Settingsto set, for example, thedate, time, date format or timeformat. In the Auto eraseoption,you can set the phone to deleteold notes automatically after a

    specified time. However, therepeat notes, for example,birthday notes, will not bedeleted.

    Making a calendar note

    For keying in letters and numbers,

    see Writing text on page 11.Press Menu and select Calendar.Scroll to the date you want, press

    Options and select Make a note.Select one of the following notetypes:

    Meeting - Key in the note, or

    search for the name in the phonebook, and press OK. Then key inthe time for the meeting andpress OK. If you like, select Alarmon and then the alarm time forthe note.

    Call- Key in the phonenumber you want, press OK, and

    key in the name and press OK, orsearch for them in the phonebook. Then key in the time for thecall and press OK. If you like,select Alarm on and then thealarm time for the note.

    Birthday- Key in the personsname (or search for it in thephone book), and press OK. Thenkey in the date of birth, and press

    OK. Key in the year of birth

    (optional), and press OK. If youkey in the year, the note showsyou the persons age after thename. If you like, select Alarm onand then the alarm time for thenote.

    Memo - Key in the note and

    press OK.When a tone alert is set, theindicator is displayed when youview the notes.

    When the phone alarmsfor a note

    The phone beeps, and displays thenote. With a call note on thedisplay, you can call the displayednumber by pressing . To stopthe alarm and view the note, pressView. To stop the alarm withoutviewing the note, press Exit.

    Infrared(Menu 9)

    You can set up thephone to receive data through its

    infrared (IR) port. To use an IRconnection, the device with whichyou want to establish a connectionmust be IrDA compliant. You cansend or receive data such as businesscards and calendar notes to or froma compatible phone or data device(for example, a computer) via the IR
