Initial Hurdles

When Nokia entered India , telecom policies were not conducive for growth of mobile phone industry.

Tariffs levied on importing mobile phones were as high as 27%. Usage charges Rs.16 per minute, at these high rates, consumer

did not take to mobile phones. Competition from other powerful global players like Motorola,

Sony, Siemens, Ericson.
