It’s so good to finally get a health warning that is use-

ful! This involves the shampoo when it runs down your

body when you shower with it!

Shampoo Warning!

I don’t know why I didn’t figure this out sooner.

I use shampoo in the shower. When I was my hair, the

shampoo runs down my whole body, and printed very

clearly on the shampoo label is the warning,

“FOR EXTRA BODY AND VOLUME.”

No wonder I have been gaining weight. Well, I have

gotten rid of that shampoo and I am going to start

showering with Dawn dish soap instead. It’s label

reads

“DISSOLVES FAT THAT IS OTHERWISE DIFFI-

CULT TO REMOVE.”

Problem solved! If I don’t answer the phone I’ll be in

the shower!

All right, we have a motion and a second that we call the fire department. Is there any discussion? No? All right, are we ready for the vote? All in favor...

Paraprosdokians are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence or phrase is surprising or unexpected; frequently humorous.

** Where there's a will, I want to be in it.

** To steal ideas from one person is plagiarism. To steal from many is research.

Nurses’ Notes

The children are off to another school year. As a part of their enrollment, their parents had to demonstrate that their immunizations are up to date and that any health needs have been reported to the school nurse.

It is also the time (for some of us, long past time) for the grownups to take stock of their own personal health is-sues. I recently had a fall and scraped my arm. I was em-barrassed to have to tell the nurse in the ER that I didn't remember when my last Tetanus shot was. I also had-n't had a pertussis shot in more years than I can recount and since whooping cough is making a comeback, that im-munization was added to my treatment. I have had my mammogram and my skin check (I had a melanoma re-moved many years ago) and a colonoscopy about 6 months ago (my father had colon cancer). I still put off getting a flu shot till the very last minute (some may be advised by their doctor to have a second flu shot after the first of the year as a booster) and I finally got a shingles vaccine last year (since I had chickenpox as a child). I am certainly not the perfect picture of taking responsibility for my own health but I try . . . most often reluctantly.

With the cost of healthcare rising every day, it is in our best interest to do all we can to maintain our health ra-ther than have to treat an illness. Check with your doctor and be your own best advocate for a healthy life. An ounce of prevention is truly worth a pound of cure.

Yours for good health,

Sharron Hollingsworth, RN

BEING THANKFUL

A Rabbi said to a precocious six-year-old boy, "So your mother says your prayers for you each night? That's very commendable. What does she say?"

The little boy replied, "Thank God he's in bed!"

1] Prayer is not a "spare wheel" that you pull out when in trouble, but it is a "steering wheel" that directs the right path throughout the jour-ney. 2] So why is a Car's WINDSHIELD so large & the Rear View Mirror so small? Because our PAST is not as important as our FUTURE. So, Look Ahead and Move on. 3] Friendship is like a BOOK. It takes a few minutes to burn, but it takes years to write. 4] All things in life are temporary. If going well, enjoy it, they will not last forever. If going wrong, don't worry, they can't last long either. 5] Old Friends are Gold! New Friends are Diamond! If you get a Dia-mond, don't forget the Gold! Because to hold a Diamond, you always need a Base of Gold! 6] Often when we lose hope and think this is the end, GOD smiles from above and says, "Relax, sweetheart, it's just a bend, not the end! 7] When GOD solves your problems, you have faith in HIS abilities; when GOD doesn't solve your problems HE has faith in your abilities. 8] A blind person asked St. Anthony: "Can there be anything worse than losing eye sight?" He replied: "Yes, losing your vision!" 9] When you pray for others, God listens to you and blesses them, and sometimes, when you are safe and happy, remember that some-one has prayed for you.

10] WORRYING does not take away tomorrow's TROUBLES, it takes away today's PEACE.

Layman's 10 Commandment

They're Back! Those wonderful Church Bulletins! Thank God for church ladies with typewriters. These sentences (with all the BLOOPERS & TYPOS) actually appeared in church bulletins or were announced in church services:

**Next Thursday there will be tryouts for the choir. They need all the help they can get.

**A bean supper will be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall. Music will follow.
