www.visitnorfolk.co.uk/outdoors Where are we?
Transport routes to and from Norfolk have improved dramatically over recent years, making it easy to reach however you choose to travel.
What’s the weather like?
Norfolk is renowned for its warm, sunny and dry weather – and rightly so, as the graph below demonstrates. The dots show the average daily sunshine in hours (left had scale) while the bars show the average annual rainfall in millimetres (right hand scale). All data is supplied by the Met Office and relates to a long term average.
Getting here is easy
By RoadNorfolk is connected to the rest of the UK by a modern and efficient road network. From the South East and London, the M11, A11, A12 and A14 are the major trunk roads. The A14, A11 and A47 are the principal routes for traffic from the Midlands and North.
By RailThe average journey time from London Liverpool Street to Norwich is 1 hr 50 mins, and from London King’s Cross to King’s Lynn takes around 1 hr 40mins. Change at Peterborough for services from the Midlands, North and Scotland. Local services connect Norwich to Great Yarmouth, Cromer and Sheringham. For full details of train times and fares, call 08457 484950.
By FerryBoth car and passenger ferries operate daily between Harwich and the Hook of Holland (call Stena Line on 08705 204402).
By AirNorwich International Airport (call 01603 411 923) offers flights to/from Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Amsterdam, Manchester and other UK destinations with connections to over 400 destinationsworldwide between them. London Stansted is also within easy reach by road.
Getting around
While you’re here, why not really relax and leave your car behind. As you can see from our map, there are lots of rail lines and cycle routes to enjoy and our famous Coasthopper bus is a walker’s welcome friend. Ask your accommodation provider for information on public transport and any discount offers.

Norfolk BroadsThe Norfolk Broads is the UK’s largest nationally-protected wetland and a member of the National Park family. It’s a vitally important area for wildlife, where you will find the reclusive Bittern and the elegant Swallowtail butterfly. Witnessing the sedate progress of a wherry or the stately silhouette of a windmill across a misty broad is one of the truly unforgettable experiences Norfolk has to offer.
Norwich a cathedral cityVoted one of the UKs favourite cities, Norwich blends beautiful heritage with a rich arts and culture scene and lots of exciting festivals all year round. Be sure to pack your plastic as Norwich is one of the UK’s top ten shopping destinations. There are two major malls and a range of intriguing independent shops all just a quick walk from some of the best known names on the high street.
Seaside FunThere are fun filled resorts dotted all around the Norfolk coastline from Hunstanton in the west to Great Yamouth in the east with Sheringham and Cromer in between. Each is perfect for families, couples, singles and the young at heart who remember how seaside holidays used to be!
Norfolk CoastStretching from the silt expanses of the Wash in the west, through the coastal marshes and soft cliffs of north Norfolk, to the dune systems of Winterton in the east, the Norfolk coast is a unique area of remarkable natural beauty and diversity. Why not walk the quiet Coastal Path, take a boat trip to see the seal colonies and enjoy the spectacular bird life at reserves along the way.
