Austenitic Stainless Steels (304L and 316L) get their strength and hardness from cold working. They do not respond to heat treatment. As the sizes get larger than 1-3/4” diameter, the strength drops by 40% or more. Type 410 and 416 stainless are hardenable by heat treatment, but offer very poor corrosion resistance.

Nass 45 is hardened by heat treatment. The strength does not drop off. It has consistent hardness and strength (typical 140,000 PSI) from 1/2” diameter through 9” diameter.

Duplex Stainless Steels provide benefits that relate directly to the structure, which displays equal amounts of Austenite and Ferrite. Austenitic grades like 304L and 316L are recognized for their corrosion resistant properties. Ferritic grades like 410 and 416 series stainless are most noted for their strength values and resistance to SCC. Lean Duplex is a hybrid that provides the best of both grades.

“SHEFFIELD™ MICRO-DUPLEX” IS MORE CORROSION RESISTANT THAN 304L AND 316L STAINLESS, AND UP TO 3X STRONGER.

Fatigue remains the greatest cause of failure in severe service applications. Utilizing Clean Steel Production

Methods is the most effective means to combat fatigue and increase toughness.

Sheffield™Stud Stock is manufactured using the “thread rolling” process. This process hardens the thread, resulting in higher physical properties and a greater resistance to stretching (creep). It also eliminates, stress ris-ers, the tooling marks that cause fatigue failure.

Sheffield™Stud Stock should be considered as a suitable upgrade where maintenance applications require improved strength and durability. In high torque and high stress applications, Sheffield™Stud Stock signifi-cantly exceed the expected service life of other threaded products and conforms to specifications for: ASTM

A193, Grade B7.
