Dear Members and Friends,

Studies show that there are numerous benefits to taking a vacation

during the year. Some dedicated workers won’t take vacation, saying that their

work comes first. However, they can actually be doing themselves and the

company a disservice.

Taking a vacation can reduce stress and burnout. It can increase

creativity, since a daily change of pace allows you to see the world differently

and clears your thinking. Vacation time gives you time to rest and reflect. Often

when you return from vacation, you are refreshed and ready to tackle new

challenges or come up with new ideas. And we all know how important sleep is.

Constant fatigue from our overbooked schedules leave our bodies prone to

sickness and our brains foggy. Taking some time off improves mental alertness

and boosts our mood. And spending time with our friends and families provides

opportunities to create new memories and share experiences together. And

then later on, you can return to those happy moments when you are telling

others the fun stories from your vacation.

So everyone needs to take a vacation and it doesn't need to be a fancy

trip where you travel far away or spend lots of money. “Staycations” are

becoming more and more popular. After all, it is really about rest, relaxation,

reflection and FUN!!

Our Pastors are no different. I am writing this little note this month in

place of the Pastor’s Note because our Pastors are enjoying their vacation.

Time to spend with family, reflect on God’s blessings and plans and time to

have some fun...renewing the body, soul and mind.

We have already heard from our own Rev. Nancy Phelan and the

Diaconate has lined up some great guest preachers for us. Please join us in

welcoming them and hearing what they have to say. If a need arises during the

Pastor’s vacation, please contact the Church Office and the Diaconate will be

able to assist you. God Bless...Bonnie Bryden

Thank you to all that helped with our 3 car

shows this summer and made them possible. We

had 53 cars at the first show, 37 at the second and

hot and some cars were absent, but a great time

was had by all. Thank you to members that came

to any of the shows.

Thank you to:

Kate – our secretary, Dr. Reppa, Linda Glynn, who worked so hard! Erik Cady,

Evan Cady, Sarah Cady, Priscilla Martin, Steven Martin, George Burdett, John Burdett,

We had 3 sponsors that covered the cost of Cruisin’ Bruce; Auto Body Concepts in

Chepachet, Josh’s Roofing from Woonsocket and Steere Farm Trucking and

Excavating from Chepachet. Raffle items were provided by Pizza King in Killingly,

CT, Knox’s Garage and Towing and Al’s Auto Clinic. Thank you to everyone who

took time to help.

PHILIPPIANS 1:6 – GOD’S NOT DONE WITH YOU

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion

at the day of Jesus Christ. (Philippians 1:6 ESV)

Here was God’s answer to my angst and self-disappointment: “I’m not done with you yet.”

He brought Paul’s words to light in my dark regret. I’m not finished, he’s still making me!

I’m still being molded and shaped and conformed to Jesus’ likeness (Romans 8:29). And

here’s more good news– so are you. God’s not done with us, we are still being drawn and

invited into relationship with him. Jesus served us first, and from that place of being

served by him, we can serve him and his Church. What God did for me was turn my focus

from myself and toward Jesus. This may seem simple, but it is a monumental gift of

change and transformation. (Jordan Loftis, www.shortdailydevotions.com)

Notes From the Bench… Greetings!

Our first pre-worship hymn sing was a great

success!! How great it was to hear our voices singing in

praise.

If you missed July’s hymn sing, don’t worry! We will

be holding hymn sings again on August 7th and September 4th at 8:45am

before the worship service begins. In lieu of the prelude, for ten minutes

before the service, we will sing a selection of two to four hymns as time

allows. We will have a hymn leader to get us started.

Come join me in making a Joyful Noise to the Lord!!!

Sunday August 7, 2016 at 8:45am.

In service to Him through the blessing of music,

Your Minister of Music,

Debbie Mollohan

To Our Church Family,

Hello, I am currently the leader for the youth group.

I honestly had been thinking of it for a couple of years and

finally went for it. It has been rewarding and fun to work

with these kids.

I am reaching out to the male church members to consider joining me to lead our

youth group. A male role model would really solidify the group. We have about 8

regular attendees, 3 that are male.

This is a commitment of half a day per month and possibly the weekend retreat

to Mount Monadnock. I don’t mind planning everything, but I know the boys would

like to have an adult male to learn from. Please pray and consider this satisfying

ministry.

Thank you and God Bless.

A Missionary Among Us

The following letter is from Emily Bellows, one of our members who graduated from

URI in May and who has decided to put her future plans on hold to answer the call to

ministry from our Lord. She is seeking prayers, encouragement and financial support.

Here is Emily’s letter...

Dear church family of North Scituate Baptist,

I hope this letter finds you well! I am excited to announce that I have graduated

from the University of Rhode Island in May (after much exploration) with a degree in

Psychology, as well as minors in Spanish and Kinesiology. Contrary to my original

plan of continuing my education in graduate school in the fall, I have decided to join the

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship staff team at URI as a Campus Intern.

In InterVarsity, I found the Christian community I was craving and my second

home at URI. I learned how to study God’s Word, what it means to be in genuine

relationship with Jesus, and how to share that with others. Nearly three years ago on our

fall retreat, I was inspired by my staff workers and began to feel called to devote my

career to ministry with InterVarsity. Though I have thoroughly enjoyed my studies and

may further my education in the future, I recognize that my passion is to continue

serving Jesus on campus with InterVarsity. InterVarsity’s ministry transformed my

college career into a discovery of God’s purpose for my life, and I now have the

opportunity to join their mission and give back. I hope to cultivate the same compelling

community that welcomed me home to URI for future students.

InterVarsity strives to have a lifetime impact on its students by creating space to

encounter God, experience whole life transformation through a relationship with Jesus,

and graduate Christian leaders who will soon leave their mark on the world. Through

mission trips, retreats, community groups, scripture study, evangelism and more,

students of all backgrounds experience the Jesus-centered community that draws them

to Him. As a Campus Intern, I will be leading these structures as well developing a

student leadership team that will guide the culture and future of the fellowship.

Like most missionaries, InterVarsity staff workers are responsible for building a

network of partners who will support their ministry through prayer and finance. In

preparation to serve URI in the fall, I have been praying for God to web this network

and to start with my church family who can bless and send me as a missionary to a

mission field in our backyard. I would love to share more of my story and how you can

invest in URI students with me. I value your friendship, prayers, and insight in this new

season and look forward to talking with you soon!

Blessings, Emily

WHY NOT TAKE A TRIP THAT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE!

THAT MISSION TRIP MIGHT BE TO HONDURAS.

2017 Mission Trip scheduled for Feb. 19th

– 25th

,

but we may be leaving on the 18th.

The areas that we visit are Manacoles, Dos Camenos and Cofradia in

the northern part of the country and all outside the city of San Pedro Sula.

Perspective: The Republic of Honduras is the second poorest country

in Central America. The country’s population of approximately 8 million people

is divided evenly between urban and rural areas. However, poverty is

essentially a rural problem. Poverty in the country affects 60 per cent of the

population, while 36 per cent live under extreme poverty conditions. In rural

areas, these figures rise to 63 per cent and 50 per cent respectively. An

estimated 71 per cent of indigenous peoples live below the poverty line.

Compared to Haiti, which is the highest in the world, 77% of residents live in

poverty.

We visit the areas of Manacoles and Dos Camenos, we do crafts and

eat lunch with the communities and we return and take part in their night-time

church service.

In Cofredia we are helping them build a new church building, we also do

crafts, eat lunch and take part in their night-time church service.

If you have questions or just want more information, talk to Helen

Greathouse, contact Rick Waterman at (401) 413-9008 or call Greenville

Baptist Church.

Isaiah 6: 8

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send?

And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!”
