introduced, regaled the dinner-goerswith herdescription and audio-visualpresentationon the flight of SpaceShuttle Discovery last July 26 to Aug.9. The mission of STS-114 was thefirst shuttle flight since the Columbiatragedy of 2003. Charming and gracious whileshowing the leadership skills that puther in command of two Space Shuttlemissions and pilot on two otherflights, Collins acknowledged thatspace flight is a dangerousundertaking. But she said manned flights mustcontinue because the abilities ofrobots and computers cannotsubstitute for human skills in space. And she hopes to go into space again, she said. Collins was the first womanastronaut to pilot a shuttle, on STS-63in February 1995. She was pilot againon STS-84 in May 1997, and becamethe first woman to command a shuttlemission on STS-93 in July 1999.
