Statement of Interest APA California Northern Section – Administrative Director

Dear Sharon

Thank you for considering my Statement of Interest for the role of APA California Northern Section Administrative Director.

I have recently relocated to the Bay Area from Melbourne, Australia. I am working as a Planner III in the Planning Department at the Alameda County Community Development Agency and am seeking the opportunity to get further involved in the local professional planning community.

It would be a privilege to serve on the APA California Northern Section Board of Directors. Iwould be grateful for the opportunity to contribute my time and expertise to the Board and to work with and learn from Board members and the APA community more broadly.

I am confident that I have the skills and experience to execute the role of Administrative Director which encompasses responsibility for records, correspondence and related communication within and APA and with related organizations. I am legally trained and have a strong understanding of the responsibilities and functions of Boards, including reporting obligations. In addition, I would bring an international perspective to the role and in my contributions to the local section of the APA.

In my home state of Victoria, Australia, I was actively involved with the Victorian Planning & Environment Law Association (VPELA), which is the local equivalent of the APA. Throughout my career in Australia I participated in VPELA’s activities including attending and presenting seminars, contributing to research projects and publications, participating in the annual conference program and, through my employers, providing sponsorship to VPELA events.

I believe that professional planning organizations such as the APA provide an invaluable service to planners and others in the planning sector in providing opportunities for professional development, networking and contributing to the continuous development of sound planning practice and policy in the State. I would be pleased to take on the role of Administrative Director in the APA Northern Section to contribute in a formal capacity to the important work and contributions being undertaken by the organization.

I attach a copy of my resume for your information. Please let me know if you have any queries, require any further information or would like to discuss my experience or interest in the role.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Regards

Sophie McGuinness

Sharon Grewal, Section Director James Castañeda, Section Director Elect

Dear Sharon and James,

I am writing to express my interest in serving as Communications Director for the APA California Northern Section. Communication has been a primary task in my role as the UC Berkeley Student Representative this past year, as I promoted Section activities to my classmates and made campus arrangements for Section activities like the AICP review session. The position of Communications Director will be a natural extension of this work, covering a broader range of events and reaching out to a larger audience.

Keeping our members and others informed of important developments in our field is an important job. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time on the board and am excited about the opportunity to contribute further in the year ahead. Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely, Matt Reiter

Dear Andrea and Sharon,

Happy New Year !

As you may remember, I applied for two positions (Planning Commissioner and theCPF board from the Nor Sec APA board) previously and sent you both a letter andbrief bio.

I hope that you still have these as I cannot seem to find them in my files. If youcannot find yours please advise me so I might redo them by Tuesday for theSaturday retreat.

Further, while my preference would be the CPF position and if selected would thenabstain from the Plan. Comm. slot as long as you have another applicant.

I am only teaching one class this semester as well as the AICP Exam Prep at UCBagain. Of course, I would not vacate the AICP director position on the board ineither event.

I look forward to seeing you both and the other board members and also want towish you and your families a safe, healthy, happy, and prosperous new year.

Warm regards,

Don
